Starfield. Its boring as fuk, and that's what you want. Nice quiet life. With spaceships.

I would have said Adventure Time but sometime else got there first. I'm only about a third in but maybe Persona (5)? For the music alone 🎢

The one where common sense is actually common.

Stardew Valley. Theres some fucked up shit beneath the surface, but you can financially support yourself just from taking nature walks. thats all i want.

An alternate universe where the shooter didn't miss.

As someone with some profound ADHD that has affected my career, I have to say, I would be fucking amazing in the Star Trek universe. For someone with an interest-based focus ability, a society where the standard of social merit is, "do cool shit you're passionate about," would be Heaven. I can do things. I can do amazing things. When I'm passionate about something, I can move mountains. But stick me in a cubicle and ask me to do the same grind day in, day out? I really struggle.

Easy. A post-scarcity world sounds amazing. Never have to really worry about the necessities, just explore whatever art or joy you have.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (6 children)

Sure, you can live in the Star Trek universe. In 2026.

Enjoy the impending Eugenics Wars and Post-Atomic Horror.

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 11 points 3 days ago

Haha I was gonna reply with something similar. If you choose the Star Trek universe, then you'd better get awfully specific about when, where, and who you are.

Culture. No question.

Wouldn't mind a lift, if the good ship Arbitrary is listening.

I'm coming with you.

This is the one. A post scarcity society where you can do just about anything you want as long as you have a certain minimum proficiency. Plus, almost all the life threatening shenanigans happen way out in space far enough away it's just part of the background news.

Whichever universe food commercials take place in. Soon as someone says their hungry the most beautiful food appears instantly but somehow no one ever gets fat. I know that IRL those commercials use paint, woodchips and all sort of nasty stuff to get it looking like that, but IN UNIVERSE everyone loves it. I wanna live there.

The culture series by Ian Banks.

1000%. Functionally unlimited lifespan in which to explore the universe, in a super-intelligent ship that contains the sum of civilizational knowledge? Hell yeah, sign me up!

Very few of them, which annoys me. 90% of fictional universes are dystopian, on the edge of collapse, and only savable by a smaller group.

The Trails games kind of stood out for having a world that’s usually on pace, and isn’t even aware of whatever sinister plot your detectives/adventurers are looking into.

Trix commercials. I get to steal food from that rabbit all day with zero consequences.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago

No. You got it all backwards.

That's the world where you can't even pour a bowl a cereal without a cartoon character trying to steal it!

[–] DFX4509B@lemmy.wtf 18 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

The Pokemon universe would be kinda fun just to have one of the creatures there as someone to chill with.

For sure me and Jigglypuff would end up in marker scribble fights pretty frequently.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

i would go with Gardevoir myself.

Futurama. People go to the moon for donuts, there are fast food joints even in the furthest reaches of space, you can go any part of the world in less than a second, most, keyword MOST, robots cater to your needs, you can live literally anywhere, and silly, adventurous stuff happen all the time.

[–] SwingingTheLamp@piefed.zip 14 points 3 days ago

Also, the various lengths of wire.

Except there's a bullshit little delivery company in New New York calling down all manner of hell upon us on a weekly basis.

I mean, practically? Orion’s Arm.

Taking care of humanity is literally trivial.

There’s a big soup of civilizations and frontiers and mysteries to explore. Some danger to keep it interesting. Infinite and transcendental pleasure to experience, entire simulated worlds you can try.

But it’s grounded in real physics, so you don’t get that big can of worms from living in a universe that isn’t… self-consistent.

In other words, its as sci-fi as you can possibly get without things getting timey wimey.

But my adventure-yearning-heart says Avatar.

Bending is just so freaking cool. It’s the best magic system ever.

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Honestly, my own, but it would depend heavily on exactly where.

In the city of Dragonwatch on New Earth, humans, chimera, and xenos live together in something resembling the modern world but cooler. There's public transit and healthcare that actually work. Augmetics are common, but not required. Nobody uses the terms 'cis' or 'trans' because changing your gender just isn't a big deal. And because I'm writing smut, there's plenty of opportunities for vigorous entertainment.

Also, no cell service. I'm bringing back phone booths. If you want a network connection outside your house, you go to a terminal and plug your slate into the network. None of this instant communication that's ruining fiction these days.

I haven't actually written much, and I'm committed to do the actual writing part without ai, and it's going very slowly (was really proud of doing 15k words in two weeks and since then I've done 100 words in six months). I do use ai for compiling my notes and exploring ideas, and for other uses outside this project. That's going to be an automatic no from some people and I respect that. If it helps, 99% of the major character and locations and other important details I had established before generative ai was a thing. I've been dicking around with this setting since 2001, and have only started using ai a couple years ago.

Anyway, external validation helps the creative process, if my setting sounds interesting I'd love suggestions for communities where I can post chapters when I eventually have something worth sharing.

The world of Shrek has tons of cool magic in it, sign me up! But also most cartoon/animation worlds, where you can survive all sorts of physical shenanigans with no injuries or consequences.

[–] AnxiousMiisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Just like Mona Lisa, a manga (soon to be anime) where people are born genderless and at 12, they choose which puberty to go through.

Yes I'm trans, why do you ask? πŸ˜† And this whole manga's concept is making me really dysphoric 😭

Adventure Time. Wild crazy adventures, all sorts of interesting creatures. Artisan pickles. You would never be bored.

Was about to reply the same but thought I'd check if anyone else said it. +1!

Animal Crossing. All I have to do is go to bed by 1800 (2000?) and I avoid ever seeing the knee high tarantulas.

[–] CalemitousVariantK@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

As awful as Rimworld can be, there's also some amazing tech that would be great to have. Sure 99% of the planet is some combination of nuclear wasteland, cannibals, Eldritch terrors, ravenous marauding insect swarms and capricious machine god puppets, but my colony is a paradise bastion where each colonist is perfected, given only the taks that fulfill them most, and catered to every need and desire in utmost luxury. Except body purists, but fuck those guys some people simply refuse to be happy.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You sound like the kind of person that would be kidnapped, have your legs and arms cut off, your eyes removed, the unnecessary organs harvested for sale, only to finally be given over to the tax collector as dues on their next visit.

Sounds like body purist propaganda. Of course all those inferior flesh bits will get removed and replaced with superior bionics. Kidnappers? Tax collectors? If you meet a stranger on the road, they're probably just going to eat you and you should shoot first just in case.

Frankly, any cozy-game universe would probably be perfect. Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon, Hello Kitty Island Adventure, Disney Dreamlight Valley. Even if I end up bored of all the happiness, I can go villain then later have a redemption arc.

[–] RBWells@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

This is going to sound silly but Kushiel's Dart. I just want to see a world with absolutely no sexually transmitted diseases and a reverence for all sorts of sex.

Star Trek would also be heavenly.

[–] MisterNeon@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Just let me live somewhere in the Super Mario universe. Reality is cruel and complicated. Let me be a weirdo hermet npc that gives tips to Mario and Luigi when they find my secret cabin.

[–] Smokeless7048@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (3 children)

If I had to live in one as a normal person: culture or startrek, as mentioned

If I get to choose my roll/skillset, gleeman in Wheel of Time, visiting all the countries would be amazing
