The rise of fascism

[–] ada@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah. My assumption was that it was going to involve the Yellow Lotus triad in some way, but that's just a guess from the name...

It says the mission is the first in the Yellow Flowers Rising series, so it makes sense it hasn't been mentioned before

Now I'm confused again... They've been there since the 70s... Your caption said new domain, so I was thinking those specific birds were very new to the specific spot they were photographed at

[–] ada@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago (3 children)

But how did they get there?

[–] ada@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Their new domain?

That's ok. I knew it wouldn't hit the same the second time around, even if the choices were meaningful, so I never went back to it. It remains perfect in my memory

I spent six weeks in Argentina by myself, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I just went wherever I felt like as I felt like it.

It could be Leucospis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leucospis) which are parasitic wasps that prey on solitary bees

I grew up in Australia. My cultural heritage (3 to 4 generations back) is mostly Irish and English. It's safe to say I don't particularly relate to either of then, until I did my family tree, I couldn't have told you which sides of my family come from which part of the UK.

And that leaves Australia. But I don't particularly feel drawn to an Australian identity either, because mainstream Australian culture mostly feels like a generic "Western" culture, with the edges rubbed off. I'm also well aware that the country as it stands today was founded on invasion and genocide, and to this day, is unable to let go of the racism that lead to those events.

So yeah, I'm Australian, but I don't feel emotionally attached to that identity.

Help me out Aussie folk that were around in the 80s. I'm trying to identify a dinosaur theme park on the Gold Coast from that time period.

I have memories as a kid of going to this rather dingy park. It didn't have much infrastructure at all, but what it did have were giant animatronic dinosaurs. They moved around, and I have vague memories that they were actually being driven/controlled by someone inside the dino. I also remember there was a giant red back spider that the t-rex battled with...

It wasn't Dinosaur Island at Sea World, as this predated the seaworld attraction by many years. But other than that, I can't find any record of it.

I wonder if it wasn't a permanent setup, but maybe something that moved around the country like a circus?

I've decided I'm going to run a marathon. The running season in Aus is only a few months away, so I'm not going to aim for this year, but will focus on mid 2027.

Around 10 years ago, I used to run, a lot! I did lots of half marathons and parkruns, but never a full marathon! I'd already decided to train for a half (that's my goal for this running season), but after watching a few people talk about training up for a full marathon, I've decided I'm going to do it as well!

I used to run a 1:38 HM, but I'm 10 years older, and no longer have the fitness I used to or the advantage of testosterone, so I won't be setting any records, but it's the first time I've felt excited about having a running goal in a long time!

I'm back!
