Hey all! I've done a lot of database maintenance work lately and other things to make lemdro.id better. Wanted to give a quick update on what's up and ask for feedback.

For awhile, we were quite a ways behind lemmy.world federation (along with many other instances) due to a technical limitation in lemmy itself that is being worked on. I ended up writing a custom federation buffer that allowed us to process activities more consistently and am happy to say that we are fully caught up with LW and will not have that problem again!

Additionally, on the database side of things, I've setup barman in the cluster to allow for point of time backups. Basically, we can now restore the database to any arbitrary point in time. This is on top of periodic automatic backups which also gets pulled to storage both on my personal NAS as well as a Backblaze bucket (both encrypted of course).

Today, I deployed a new frontend at https://next.lemdro.id. This one is very early stages and experimental but is being developed by https://lemm.ee and seems promising!

If you live outside of the US and experience consistently long load times I want to hear from you! I am deploying the first read replica node to Europe soon, so if you live in that region you'll soon notice near-instaneous loading of content. Very exciting!

Finally, looking for feedback. Is there anything you want to see changed? Please let me know!

The recording, which we are not posting at the request of our source, is an unfiltered look into a fracture among key far-right figures in Idaho politics, in a state where many races turn on contests of conservative purity.

It’s a portrait of the tangled relationship between a power broker and a politician. It includes Nate insulting other legislators and accusing Scott of joining the establishment. It shows Scott questioning both whether God wants women in leadership and whether she wants to remain in Idaho at all.

Heather Scott and Maria Nate have each established their own perch in Idaho politics.

Scott, from her district near the top of the Idaho Panhandle, has made plenty of headlines. During her first week in office, lawmakers accused her of cutting down a piece of the fire suppression system because she believed it was a “listening device” — a claim she denies.

She’d explained that the Confederate flag she’d been photographed waving was merely signifying her support for “free speech.” She’d been removed from a committee after she was overheard saying that female House members “spread their legs” to get leadership positions — the same month that Moyle married a fellow legislator.

But despite all that — or, perhaps, because of all that — she’s cultivated an army of die-hard supporters from the North Idaho grassroots.

“Heather, do you just not trust me because I’m a woman?” Nate asked. “I do wonder, because you’d said to me a lot of times that women need to follow men.”

Scott insisted she trusted Nate but acknowledged that she does “think men are stronger leaders.”

“I just think that’s how God designed us,” Scott said. “Obviously, we’re in a time of attack and crisis. And I think that God has put a lot of women in leadership positions because we’re in judgment. That’s why we’re always — it’s not natural, I don’t think.”

Trying to get my head around this system in our cafe. It's the relationship between the circulating pump and the ?bypass (above the red knob on the right) that is not making sense to me.

It just seems like the circulating pump is dragging the cold water around and around through the loops. It's doesn't look like other manifolds I've googled...

Since people are able to identify and claim whatever they want to be. I am now a trans white. I do not consider nor identify myself as an African-American woman anymore. I don’t feel comfortable in my skin. I don’t believe this was my right race at birth. So I will now be transitioning, I’ve shared my reason as to why. Discrimination, being mocked and degraded, were the bottom of the dating pool, I currently can’t get a job due the racism in my area so now I’m transitioning

Hi, I'm Emma (she/her).

So, long story short:

  • I am lonely

  • I wanna befriend some local LGBTQ+ people here in southeast Louisiana

  • I can't send/receive direct messages to/from Lemmy users with this Mbin account, but I have a Lemmy account I can use if necessary

About me:

  • I'm a 90s kid

  • I'm a trans girl

  • I began transition, including HRT, January of 2023

  • I suffer from OCD

  • I'm a Linux nerd, kinda

  • I use PureOS on my Librem 5

  • I use QubesOS on my Librem 14

  • I use pfSense on my firewall/router

  • I'd like to think that I'm somewhat good at writing

I'd love to meet some LGBTQ+ people, but I don't know how. The only support group I've found is exclusively online via Zoom, and only Facebook users are allowed. As a privacy and security obsessed person, I'm totally excluded, and I just feel so trapped right now. I want to meet people offline, and I just don't know how.

And I'm really sad right now thinking about how much I love the friends I've made online in the past few months and how I feel so isolated from them.

It hurts to post this, but I feel that I must. I don't expect to find anyone, but I have to try.

Widened my search even more this past weekend, and it seems like it paid off! Another tech job, but one that I could temporarily get behind until I'm back on my feet. Just a phone interview, but gonna go read over the description so I know what to hammer on.

I think ---DOCKER--- is doing this. I installed based, and userspace(7)-pilled liblxc and libvirt and then this asshole inserted a dependency when I tried to install from their Debian package with sudo dpkg -i. One of them was qemu-system, the other was docker-cli because they were forcing me to use Docker-Desktop, which I would not be caught dead using.

So is this accidental, or another predatory move by one of these 'ooh I wish I did not open source' companies (e.g. HashiCorp)? Why don't we all use LXC and ditch this piece of shit?

I could be misunderstanding how Debian-based packaging works. But this is too '''accidental'''. Correct me if I am wrong.
