Galician paratroopers destroyed a Russian reconnaissance drone worth $7.5 million in the sky over the Sumy region.

The anti-aircraft gunners of the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade, 8th Air Assault Corps, know exactly how to turn an expensive and scarce Russian reconnaissance UAV into a pile of scrap metal. They are effectively defending the Sumy region not only on the ground but also in the sky. Recently, the paratroopers detected an enemy "Forpost" drone conducting reconnaissance of the Ukrainian Defense Forces' positions. The enemy "bird" was immediately destroyed.

This downed "Forpost" reconnaissance UAV is already the second to the credit of the 80th Brigade's anti-aircraft gunners. The Galician paratroopers managed to down the first aircraft also in the Sumy region, in the summer of 2025.

Previously, the continued immobilization of the assets had to be agreed upon by all 27 member states every six months - leaving them vulnerable to a veto by Hungary or Slovakia, who had repeatedly threatened to vote against renewing the sanctions.
