Actual exercise will increase your base metabolic rate, though.

Sounds like someone's been skipping marrow day
Lmk when your base metabolic rate is 500kcal/30min lmao
500kcal/8 weeks you mean
Me, this week, bedridden.
Shit, I'm really sorry. I hope you get a lot better very soon, comrade
What if you jog to the donation center?
You just can't jog home, but I like the cut of your jib.
Sure but briskly jogging is so much more practical. Burns like 400 calories for 30 minutes, you can do it more than once every 2 months, and your body's endurance increases.
There's no way a brisk 30 minute jog burns 400 calories.
Depending on a lot of factors ofc, the rule of thumb I've heard is that a mile of locomotion burns about 100 calories. Doesn't matter if you're jogging or walking or sprinting, it's just that of course walking gets the mile done slower. If a brisk jog means a 10 minute mile, that would be around 300 calories in 30 minutes. The 400 number likely comes from a treadmill, and those tend to way overestimate.
15 minute mile seems more jogging speed to me, once you're doing a 10 minute mile that's basically a light run.
I was never very good in track or cross country though so what do I know? I'm more into bikes.
Idk, a "brisk jog" to me means like 6mph or something, which would be a 10 minute mile. You can "jog" at around 4mph but there's nothing brisk about it.
10 min / mile for 30 minutes with average male body weight will easily burn 400 calories, it'll depend on how much you weigh of course. Any moderate intensity cardio will give you similar results.
It might take you a few months to work up to that speed / distance but it's very do-able.
You are correct, and I declare arguments to the contrary are "silly", possibly "dumb".
One can very easily burn 400 calories during a brisk jog! Most folks can manage it. That's done by their body burning up most of those anyway at rest.
There is no magic where 400 kcal gets specifically dumped by adding a 30 min brisk jog lol. This would be silly-mode thinking.
You certainly do not burn 400 calories every 30 minutes at rest either. Remember, there's 48 periods of 30 minutes in a day and about 2000 calories to get through a day; at rest it's probably around 40 if we just evenly divide calories per 30 minute period.
Yeah, tbh I didn't bother looking at what would/could be truly burned at rest, that was lazy of me. Just wanted to indicate how far off "burning" 400 in that way was.
My knees beg to differ about the practicality of jogging
Swimming, biking, rowing, all offer similar levels of calories burned with less impact on knees.
Plus running doesn't actually ruin your knees. You might be able to get into it if you take it slow but it's up to you.
Yeah yeah I'm not blaming it on running, I'm blaming it on my undiagnosed knee pains that set in after 4 minutes of jogging.
But then they also give you free food after you donate blood (here, at least) so you don't pass out.
The red cross has been messing around with their vendors recently and the new granola bars and cheez-its are totally shit now. Not even the cookies are good.
i've never donated blood but from what i understand they give you a couple cookies and some juice if you feel faint
Free juice and cookies?… You have my attention.
if you donate plasma they'll give you somewhere between $20 - $50 instead
There are places that pay only $20?
The last time I gave plasma was a decade ago in a rural area and the minimum was $40.
yeah.. the town where i went to college gave $20 on your first donation of the week and then $40 if you came back in the next 2 - 3 days of the same week.
That was how my sister, bro-in-law, and I survived one year of college basically.
My experience was the opposite: $200 for the first 3 donations, and then like $30-40 for each one after that, over a six-month span.
I ended up only doing it twice, and getting a part-time job while buying rice and dry beans instead.
one of the most bmi reducing activities you can do is getting both your legs amputated
That would actually increase your BMI because you decreased your height. And legs weigh less than torsos. Funnily enough, if you just amputate ONE leg, then your BMI is reduced because your height would remain same.
damn, I got so caught up thinking about whether I could that I didn't think about whether I should.
Take off both arms too since they don't factor into height
Shed one of those useless fucking kidneys too. You can go without a lung. Also a lot of your brain is kind of unnecessary.
We bmi-maxxing now
Technically eyes aren't necessary, either
Fuck, why didn't I think of that? Wheres the melon baller
My dad used to give blood a lot and he would talk about how great it was for his blood pressure, lmao.
Routine blood donation / letting supposedly reduces concentrations of lead and certain “forever chemicals” too
That's apparently disputed/not as much as proponents claim, but donating blood definitely works on people with too much iron in their bodies.
Damn, I never even considered that. Literally the same solution as for heating systems: too much pressure? Just purge the liquid!
Damn that goes into my rotation. Arm day, leg day, cardio, blood day.
If I had one of those regrowable tails like them lizards do id be chopping it off for some extra calorie burn. Damn what if I could eat my own tail? It's like net zero calorie intake.
Arm day, leg day, cardio, blood day
Implying that either you train your blood once a week, or you donate an arm, a leg and a heart weekly.
Damn what if I could eat my own tail?
👉👈 haha... Y-yeah... Your o-own tail :hyperflush:
My arms and legs grow back as I am an axolotl
@thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net is this true?
My blood is poison so I don't think they would take it
