There's no way a brisk 30 minute jog burns 400 calories.
Depending on a lot of factors ofc, the rule of thumb I've heard is that a mile of locomotion burns about 100 calories. Doesn't matter if you're jogging or walking or sprinting, it's just that of course walking gets the mile done slower. If a brisk jog means a 10 minute mile, that would be around 300 calories in 30 minutes. The 400 number likely comes from a treadmill, and those tend to way overestimate.
15 minute mile seems more jogging speed to me, once you're doing a 10 minute mile that's basically a light run.
I was never very good in track or cross country though so what do I know? I'm more into bikes.
Idk, a "brisk jog" to me means like 6mph or something, which would be a 10 minute mile. You can "jog" at around 4mph but there's nothing brisk about it.
10 min / mile for 30 minutes with average male body weight will easily burn 400 calories, it'll depend on how much you weigh of course. Any moderate intensity cardio will give you similar results.
It might take you a few months to work up to that speed / distance but it's very do-able.
You are correct, and I declare arguments to the contrary are "silly", possibly "dumb".
One can very easily burn 400 calories during a brisk jog! Most folks can manage it. That's done by their body burning up most of those anyway at rest.
There is no magic where 400 kcal gets specifically dumped by adding a 30 min brisk jog lol. This would be silly-mode thinking.
You certainly do not burn 400 calories every 30 minutes at rest either. Remember, there's 48 periods of 30 minutes in a day and about 2000 calories to get through a day; at rest it's probably around 40 if we just evenly divide calories per 30 minute period.
Yeah, tbh I didn't bother looking at what would/could be truly burned at rest, that was lazy of me. Just wanted to indicate how far off "burning" 400 in that way was.
