They know that they're hypocrites. The love it.

[–] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I guess what I don't get that these people get is a sense of power by bending reality for the benefit of themselves, instead of a sense of power from understanding the nuances of the universe, or at least attempting to.

[–] Entertainmeonly@lemmy.blahaj.zone 44 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Learning and understanding take effort. Claiming stupidity is a virtue is simple. They are simple people. The clay of the land. You know... morons.

That scene will always, always be relevant

The source of their satisfaction comes from hurting others, rather than improving themselves.

Just like everything else, they think happiness is a zero sum game, so they have to make the others unhappy.

[–] ddplf@szmer.info 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Ah, everything being a zero sum game, now wouldn't that be a part of the common core of both the capitalism and the fascism?

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago

It’s a flex and a demoralization tactic, and they will continue doing it until you end them.

I look forward to the pearl clutching when literally the entire world is celebrating. I'm saving a nice scotch for the occasion.

The Republicans don't care that they are hypocrites. Their electorate doesn't care they are hypocritical. These tweets are not a gotcha, it's just engagement bait.

"I didn't vote for this!"

[–] killea@lemmy.world 13 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Ya know, I don't really like Kimmel: growing up he and Adam Carolla (lol) did the man show, and even as a kid I just thought he was a not-funny low brow asshole. But I'm glad he's stirring the shit-pot here. Let it not be a typical media distraction, but a continual provocation for these pricks to be sloppy and show their hand, and a call to action for enough of the American people to wake up and start saying no to the shit that is eating them alive.

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 1 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I can’t help but remember it’s a big club and i think Kimmel is in it.

So then i think they all in on it and aren’t as mad as they are acting.

I also can’t stand Kimmel for so many reasons. He really isn’t funny. The only funny part about this distraction is that Trump isn’t wrong on what he says about Kimmel.

[–] killea@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Indeed, though I believe it is a tiered club. Millionaires eat shit and do immoral/reprehensible things for their paycheck, and generally have to testify to the ideology in some fashion. Billionaires eat comfortably atop those particular servants, I'd speculate.

Kimmel's in the millionaire tier and is very appropriately mediocre. It's almost weird how he's so much the same as when I was kid watching comedy central. Just a little more pc and mainstream (misogyny isn't as broadly acceptable anymore, I guess?).

I just like that he's bringing attention to the absolute disgrace of it all and a broad audience is at least in earshot. Like, maybe it'll help. And I personally wouldn't go so far as to give Trump credit for being correct about anything. Chalk that up to broken clock syndrome.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 1 points 5 days ago

It's just a distraction from their utter failure in Iran.

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 11 points 5 days ago

In-group to protect, out-group to bind. That's all.

Kimmel said something like,"Melania has the glow of an expectant widow" and, after someone translated it for Melania, she got angry. Then the winger snowflake brigade started their bitching and whining. Oh yeah, and the head of the FCC made another threat to broadcasters licenses if they keep not toeing the party line.

[–] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Also this was before the shooting attempt but they're trying to make it out like "his violent rhetoric cause..."

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

That is a very important detail I dropped. Thanks for adding it.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 2 points 5 days ago

Don't forget they're conveniently not upset about Leavitt saying there would be some shots fired, right before the event.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 22 points 6 days ago

He said Melania had the glow of an expectant widow. You know, because trump is an octogenarian, and Melania is younger than Kimmel.

I don't know, seems to me big donna has lost his support

[–] Tiral@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Trump banners start at 40'. Standard mobile homes are 40'. I'll let you make any inferences you'd like.

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 1 points 5 days ago

MAGA is like Zionism.

[–] rmrf@lemmy.ml 1 points 5 days ago

Goomba fallacy everyone, the same people, outside of mainstream influencers running a business on this crap, are not holding these directly conflicting stances in >90% of cases. Don't fall for efforts to dehumanize those that disagree with you and just ask questions instead. Why do you think this type of rhetoric is bad? Should comedians be held to the same standard as lawmakers and enforcers? Why or why not

[–] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

When did Kimmel transition to comedy?

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

At some point after the Man Show. I missed it too but it’s been going on for a while…
