I don't get it, seems like a completely accurate map? I'm american btw

[–] mEEGal@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago (3 children)

this is satire on the situation between Japan and South Korea

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 43 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My comment was satire on the sad state of the American "education" system

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

I gained a better understanding of the joke so thank you for falling for it!

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm out of the loop...what's going on between Japan and South Korea?

[–] mEEGal@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The name of the sea between them is causing turmoil in the SK society, because everyone else is calling it "Sea of Japan".

that and the fact that the Japanese are absolute dicks about the SK women they enslaved for sex some 70 years ago

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Everybody else has been calling it "Sea of Japan" for a really ling time by now.

AFAIK, seas normally take the name of the land that is closing them, and gulfs take the name of the land that is around them.

Now, about their constant Empire apology, yeah, Koreans are in their right to be really pissed of. The entire world should be.

And I only learned about those crimes by reading manhwa first but hey at least I did learn about it.

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Just remember that every time you see the sun flag in an anime, that it's the symbol of a government that the fucking Nazis wrote home scared about their monstrosity and disrespect for the lives of other people.

[–] Beardsley@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thanks for the context, from an American who tries not to read the news because my doctor reccomended that as an alternative to suicide. This whole place is fucked.

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Jesus Christ, did they bill you for that advice?

[–] Beardsley@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Lol, to be fair I have a significant anxiety disorder and am prone to panic attacks.

[–] the_swagmaster@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If only Scotland could detach like that in real life 😢

[–] rockerface@lemm.ee 5 points 1 week ago

This is basically plot of Golden Kamuy (with Hokkaido, not Scotland)

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Please rename the Irish Sea to "Gulf of America 2"

[–] Randelung@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

No New Zealand yet again.

[–] sevan@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I hope you're not using that map to navigate your new home.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Is that why everyone around me sounds like they're speaking some language I can't understand? I thought it was just really heavy accents.

[–] sevan@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I mean, depending on where exactly you ended up, it could go either way. I've watched some British TV over the years and I frequently need subtitles and I assume the actors are enunciating better than the average person.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Thankfully, because of my British family, I am very good with most British accents. That said, the guy who delivered our groceries had an incredibly thick Lancashire accent and a stutter and I got a few phrases here and there. I got the important ones like 'did you get my message' and 'no substitutions' but he said something about going to Preston (nearby) which was just unintelligible, so I just nodded and said, "okay."

*Democratic People's Republic of Ireland

[–] Magister@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago
  • designed by POTUS executive order, soon in all geography books and schools in USA

Wales gets it it's own Island? Fuck yes! I vote for this map.

[–] AFC1886VCC@reddthat.com 6 points 1 week ago

I wanted to be North Korea not South Korea

[–] Elbow1240@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Poor Shikoku doesn't get a label

[–] wfh@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago

You mean Cornwall?

[–] Resol@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

I love how Northern Ireland is south of the Irish Republic, yet every other country is accurate.

A silly map of silly isles.

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Just as in the actual UK map, russia does not exist

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago
[–] hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

North Ireland is south of Ireland?

[–] RandomStickman@fedia.io 3 points 1 week ago

Northern Ireland South

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Suggest to a South Korean that Japan owns them and I will personally attend your funeral.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I do not see those places on this very accurate map.

[–] tourist@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Why is Northern Ireland the South of The Republic Of Ireland? Did something happen? Sorry I'm not well versed in this region.

Also, what is the country bordering the EU and The Republic of Ireland? Is it Yougotoslovakia? I have family there I think.

[–] RogueBanana@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

Why call it the north sea when it's to the east? Doesn't seem very accurate to me 🤔

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago

It's funny because it's true

[–] niktemadur@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Japan has always given me more of a Denmark vibe. The general shape and area, lots of islands, connected to its' mainland and a bit on the flatter side but hey, you can't have it all exactly alike, can you?
They even have their own kinda-sorta version of sushi with a Baltic twist, heavy on the pickled herring. But there is a famous pickled fish sushi version from Kyoto.
