everything that happens is randomness and cruelty but fortunately they are comfortable enough for it not to affect them most of the time so it's just "wow that's so sad". if it ever does affect them i think they explode

Yeah they do, when bad things happen it’s because of communism, when good things happen it’s because of the DNC

fanon liberalism being unable to contend with neocolonialism moment. genuinely embarrassing that this person is ordained as a "serious academic" by an institution.

Even more embarrassing: she obviously hasn't seen Avatar 3

Nor listened to "Fuck Tha Police"

And on the other hand without a gun, they can't get none
But don't let it be a black and a white one
'Cause they'll slam ya down to the street top
Black police showin' out for the white cop

Love when my liberal "political scientists" are working on bizarre racial ideologies.

On a level plain, simple mounds look like hills; and the insipid flatness of our present bourgeoisie is to be measured by the altitude of its great intellects.

our theories are woefully inadequate

They should've realised that when majority of Latino men voted for Trump... Over a year ago.

Reminds me of the army using Indian scouts from tribe A to hunt tribe B. Something that has done for at least 500 years now

It IS embarrassing. Someone in "ethnic politics" with such a race theory ass take, she's nazi-adjacent in her mentality and doesn't even realise it.

[–] Saymaz@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 2 months ago

The consequences prioritizing identity politics over class struggle.

If I'm being really generous, I'd say "political scientists" after the 1510s should probably understand this concept, but really this kind of thing has literally happened for as long as there has been any kind of persecution of any group so I'm really confused by her confusion.

You don't have to be bright to have an advanced degree. Hell, you don't even have to be especially gifted in your own field to hold an advanced degree, you mostly just need to be capable of rote memorization/recall.

I've read so many police brutality cases where the officer has a hispanic last names. Hispanics are the fastest growing police ethnicity, but are still under represented as a portion of population. and while having a Hispanic last name doesn't mean they self identify that way, it does seem like poc cops try to prove themselves to their colleagues by brutality. When was the last nationally reported police murder that was exclusively white officers? Tyre Nichols, George Floyd, and Freddie Gray all included multiple poc murderers.

Research suggests that more black officers in a white dominated police force actually increases fatal encounters, and only once there is a near majority do fatalities decline again. https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2017/02/04/513218656/does-having-more-black-officers-reduce-police-violence

[–] miz@hexbear.net 24 points 2 months ago

whoa it turns out if you spend your time ignoring social class, you end up with an inconsistent slurry of identity politics

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 22 points 2 months ago (5 children)

Ngl I like, generally understand the concept and I’m aware that compradors exist in every persecution but I do also definitely feel the “How the fuck could you do this, and how stupid are you to think this will save you?”

We’re not talking about people in concentration camps who’re getting extra food or something for being a snitch, these people could simply not join ICE or CBP. Go work for McDonald’s or something dude, the pay is barely less and it’s way easier on the conscience.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 22 points 2 months ago (1 children)

ICE advertised a signing bonus that is way higher than anything McDonald's would give you.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 22 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And ICE agents have been bitching on Reddit that the money they were promised is nowhere to be seen lmao

"Every colonized people - in other words, every people in whose soul an inferiority complex has been created by the death and burial of its local cultural originality - finds itself face to face with the language of the civilizing nation; that is, with the culture of the mother country. The colonized is elevated above his jungle status in pro- portion to his adoption of the mother country's cultural standards. He becomes whiter as he renounces his blackness, his jungle." - Frantz Fanon, Black Skin, White Mask.

As the Spanish empire was less hung up on the idea of avoiding intermarriage with the natives than the English were, there’s much more of a spectrum of latinos from an ethnic standpoint. There’s some that are entirely or nearly entirely indigenous, likewise with Spaniard ethnicity, a whole bunch of in-between, plus afro-latinos. This creates a dynamic where some latinos think they prove their “good one”/European status by showing sufficient fealty and service to the nation, especially in the form of expelling the “bad”/indigneous latinos.

[–] thethirdgracchi@hexbear.net 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

McDonald's doesn't have $50k signing bonuses, nor does it give you a gun and make you feel "tough."

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago (2 children)

ICE doesn’t give $50k signing bonuses either, going by the complaints of the goons in question

CBP doesn’t do that, never has, and never claimed to, and yet 50% of their staff are fucking kapos

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 13 points 2 months ago (3 children)

ICE doesn’t give $50k signing bonuses either, going by the complaints of the goons in question

i.e. people who only found out after they took the job and are probably still being strung along that they'll get it eventually if they don't quit.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago

The clause in their contract actually says they have to pay the bonus back if they quit before a couple of years

And that's the full bonus, pre-tax

Which, lol, hope you have some good savings

But also, idk man $50k is a lot of money but it’s not that much money. I have a STEM degree and could certainly make more money if I decided to do work that would kill people but I don’t want to kill people and so I do aging research and it didn’t take me a fucking moment of thinking to make that decision

Unless you’re being starved, it’s not that hard to not deliberately take a job to hurt specifically your community, and trying to come up with a “material conditions” based analysis to explain it I feel like takes away the agency of these monsters. They chose to do this, of their own free will, and they should hang for it. If they were truly pushed into it, that feels like excusing their actions.

[–] thethirdgracchi@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago

I'm not trying to downplay the agency of these monsters, just saying that they probably care way more about money than anything else and don't really have any sort of moral compass. I'm not saying they were "forced into it" or anything like that, just that they like money and don't care about the people around them because our society is so atomized. The real mystery here is why that supposedly doesn't fit into any liberal political theory?

[–] towhee@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

ICE is probably the only job out there right now in the US that is (1) hiring like gangbusters with basically zero qualifications and (2) pays really well. I know a couple long-term unemployed people whose lives would be fixed in many ways if they signed up, except for the fact that they'd be doing nazi shit.

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Again though, does it pay really well? It seems like it doesn’t at all

And that still doesn’t explain decades of CBP being like 50% Hispanic

[–] towhee@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

For the latter I think it’s because they mainly operate along the southern border and thus recruit in that area, which has a lot of Hispanic people.

[–] thefunkycomitatus@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago

Wait until she learns about Los Angeles and the policing there.

[–] save_vs_death@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago

lemme guess half the replies are "this must be the work of putler"

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 18 points 2 months ago

As a mexican, it makes perfect sense. There is nothing worse than migra with a latino last name, it doesn't surprise me that they're ICE's best goons.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

Okay so based on their bio I’m guessing they call it the “Seven Years War” not the “French-Indian War” but the reason it got called that in the USA is because the British were fighting the French and the Indians (their term for the indigenous peoples of the Americas). Natives fought on both sides for various reasons, but that’s the name that stuck.

I stress this because this is a clear example of collaborators that goes so far back it’s recalled in the very name given to an antique war.

[–] radio_free_asgarthr@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

It is a funny demonstration of at least some family resemblance of dialectics and how complex phenomena is a very complex interplay of all the factors. But milquetoast liberals just are constantly jumping directly back and forth between the original liberal conception of atomic individual that is a tabular rossa rationally acting as an abstract individual maximizing utility to the opposite position of your race (and maybe parents income, as a crude indicator of inequality and class) directly determine everything you think and do and form you as a monolith.
