If I'm being really generous, I'd say "political scientists" after the 1510s should probably understand this concept, but really this kind of thing has literally happened for as long as there has been any kind of persecution of any group so I'm really confused by her confusion.

You don't have to be bright to have an advanced degree. Hell, you don't even have to be especially gifted in your own field to hold an advanced degree, you mostly just need to be capable of rote memorization/recall.

I feel like outside observers usually understand the concept of compradors naturally when they see it in action as long as they understand that people of other "races" are not fundamentally different from them. Which probably says something about this "political scientist".
