Just saw some footage today on the news of ice just straight up brown shirting it and made me feel despair. And we're still stuck arguing if Trump is racist or not when his goon squad are doing shit like this.

The goalposts keep getting moved. They’re going to find a million dead bodies under the AT&T convention center and the libs will be like ‘you do this ONE more time and we’ll be on our way to fascism’.

In all seriousness, I’ve had legitimate conversations with family members about fleeing the country. It’s absolutely mind bending that I’m discussing this seriously.

Americans have a very specific idea of what fascism and nazism are and partially define themselves in the national myth by their (fabricated) historic opposition nazism.

So long as they are american they can't be nazis, by definition. If an american calls another american a fascist or a nazi its taken to be a meaningless insult.

I suspect this only ends when they manage to reinvent the whole fucking thing from the start and play it out to the bitter end.

Everyone else needs to claw public education back from austerity vultures in their own countries or prepare for a similar slide into ignorant helplessness.

There is solid evidence that hundreds of detainees are being held in the basement of my local courthouse. The detainees in there don't show up on the ICE websites. Unfortunately it gets barely any traction and no local politicians are doing shit about it...even though many would have the legal right to tour the basement and observe the condition of the detainees. Of course, some local politicians were already barred from touring an official "on the books" ice detention facility so I guess they will just get away with hiding all this bullshit

What's funnier is the protests against it have just become Wacky Fun Time Costume Parade

Not even disruptive

It's just showing up to show up

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 35 points 4 months ago (2 children)

when there's 100 people in santa costumes you can probably get away with some shit

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 27 points 4 months ago (3 children)

But what if they all had a hard hat, clipboard, and yellow safety vest?

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 15 points 4 months ago (1 children)

depends what you're trying to do

[–] SuperZutsuki@hexbear.net 17 points 4 months ago (1 children)

"Accidentally" toss ICE brown shirts into a woodchipper

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 22 points 4 months ago (1 children)

hey officer i think i saw some "illegals" down that alley with two blind turns

...

...

[wilhelm scream, miscellaneous woodchipper noises]

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 14 points 4 months ago

Dressing as Wile E. Coyote to drop anvils on ICE officers

[–] ClassIsOver@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago

And a ladder

[–] unaware@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago

The yellow safety vest seems interesting; they could even name the protest movement from that, the "yellow safety vests protests" or something...

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I feel like this works exactly until dispersion and then a 100 people in santa costumes in November are hilariously easy to track down

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 12 points 4 months ago (1 children)

you can take off a santa outfit when it's no longer convenient

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 17 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'm gonna be honest I'm not getting the feeling that people rocking up in santa outfits to ineffective protests have this kind of opsec going on

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 20 points 4 months ago

no the idea is for somebody actually cool to use the presence of the liberals to achieve something else. the libs don't have to do anything they can just have their 80s santa workout or scalie convention accomplishing nothing as usual.

I really wish I had something positive to say but I don't. Out of curiosity I checked Chuck Schumer's Bluesky account and I went back about 14 days. He didn't mention this shit even once.

Obama voice: "If you like your Gestapo - you can keep your Gestapo."

[–] THEPH0NECOMPANY@hexbear.net 39 points 4 months ago

Chuck Schumer has openly stated that his main goal is to keep the "left" supportive of Israel and ICE has routinely gone after Pro Palestinian protesters and organizers. He has no issues with ICE actions

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 30 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Wouldn't expect anything less from our controlled opposition.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 26 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I can't quite believe it but it really seems that the democrats campaign spiels for 2026 and 2028 are literally going to include phrases like "The statue of limitations will not have expired in 2029."

Insane.

i can't think of a better highlight of DNC uselessness that their July legislation to "combat" ICE only went so far as to make them identify themselves... and even carved out exceptions!! i hate them so much it literally hurts

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 17 points 4 months ago

i hate them so much it literally hurts

The incurable leftist malady.

[–] tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It just makes me sad how resigned to it people I see around are, I overhear people saying like "just a few years and he'll be gone". Say that to the families of immigrants being blackbagged and Venezualans being bombed.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 6 points 4 months ago

GOP SCOTUS will surely issue a horrible ruling on immigration too: Supreme Court to review rescinded Trump policy of turning away asylum seekers at the border. All of this makes me angry, sick, and tired.

American liberals have no known history of standing up against fascism (e.g., no natural antibody). So this first bout is going to be rough. But one silver lining is from history, we know that fascist government cannot maintain power longer than two generations.

[–] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 28 points 4 months ago

Not a lot going to be surviving longer then two generations if we keep emitting like we are

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 29 points 4 months ago

I saw a video the other day of a white Barbara/Debra type getting upset that the ICE agent in the parking lot asked her if she was a citizen, she said yes, and he moved on, but was asking every brown person for ID. So she was following him excorciating his actions as he racially profiled everyone in the parking lot, screaming about how she has white privilege and these other poor souls don't and how fucked up it is.

I think a lot of people are quietly paying attention and know what's going on if they see it TBH. I just don't think most people have come across brown shirts doing this shit in the wild at this point.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 29 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

do not enjoy contemplating how much time is remaining on my plan for getting out of here

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 28 points 4 months ago

There’s a lot of anxiety in the Latino community but luckily ICE isn’t super active here, or not yet. Some of the guys in their early 20s I worked with over the summer seemed a bit indifferent “they won’t get me”, but that could be a lot of 20s male bravado. For what it’s worth they were citizens but I don’t know if their parents were. One guy who was closer to my age, came over at 19, full pathed his citizenship, he was a lot more pragmatic. Still had faith in the system he was personally safe from deportation but knew all this was about racism not “the border” so he knew he might get profiled and fucked with. But it’s just a low simmering feeling. Halloween was quiet. Día de Los Muertos was quiet. I’m just waiting for it to get worse.

[–] RiotDoll@hexbear.net 22 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I had no idea how much we took for granted really was upheld by duct tape and vibes.

I really did used to think certain issues were solved and that it was a matter of time and application, but now it's stunningly obvious to me that was delusional.

[–] mortemtyrannis@lemmy.ml 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

While this is sad I hope it inspires you to take direct action.

[–] RiotDoll@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago

Oh for sure

[–] Hyper_red@hexbear.net 14 points 4 months ago

I made a bad post saying we should have pod save America read lenin, but I think liberals across the west are starting to hate their liberal politicians.

I think they YEARN for socialist politicians, it's why zohran even tho he's a just a dem soc, was so popular even here in Ireland.

I think that all we need is some figure to lead liberals in a political movement to turn them towards socialism.

I'm not saying we need another lenin but like with how much liberals want to destroy the right and hate their own liberal politicians I think a communist Obama could work
