What if they took all the cars and linked them together, and set them on a guided rail?

I remember the chapter of capital "The importance of rigorous car linking and public transportation as a step towards establishing the dictorship of the proletariat"

[–] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 48 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You can then replace the rubber tires with steel wheels. Also, when you're building infrastructure you can also put in a cable, so that instead of having to lug around batteries, your cars can take power from the grid. And when you're linking vehicles then you can make it so that the front vehicle has all the engine power and the other cars are just towed behind it like a trailer. I know, revolutionary and has never been done before anywhere on earth.

you can also put them much closer together safely.

[–] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yes, and since you don't have motors in back cars anymore you can just make some kind of door to walk between them. But also putting that many people close together might cause issues so you need someone to supervise them, call them a conductor (or a guard if you're British)

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

Pretty sure we call them conductors over here too

I wonder how the ppl who canceled California's high speed rail feel rn

[–] deepfriedwater@lemmygrad.ml 57 points 2 months ago

Politicians got their money, billionaires got to screw over another public infrastructure project, and it’s not like any of them would be caught dead in a train. It’s probably a win in their books

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 39 points 2 months ago

idk but as a california resident illegal-to-say

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 23 points 2 months ago

The ones who actually made the decision? 0 cares, the car lobby won, and the people that got their cheques got their cheques.

The people who actually believed the SuperDuperLoop scam? Probably mildly embarrassed at best, not enough to change their worldview.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

First couple of seasons had some weird animation problems

[–] NewOldGuard@lemmy.ml 40 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Something about this is so terrifying

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 44 points 2 months ago (1 children)

it's claustrophobia-inducing, no space around the car means an accident or two and you're fucked

It's a tunnel designed by my-hero.

Well, his company, not him personally of course, but not a good track record.

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

Track record

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago

The fact that the tunnel is not quite straight for no discernible reason is really offputting.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 13 points 2 months ago

Awaiting the headline of 'fire occurs in Tesla tunnel, crews unable to help due to design' any day now

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 36 points 2 months ago

couldn't even drill in a straight line smdh what kind of high tech tunnel is this

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 31 points 2 months ago

If you clean the inside of an intestine, that's about how it would look like inside.

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

Honestly pretty true it's surprisingly white and ... Frothy looking powercry-1

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago (4 children)

If you became overlord of Vegas and were tasked with making use of these tunnels, what would you do with them?

Tiny trains? Bike lanes? Something else?

[–] miz@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

competitive roller blade racing track

[–] psivchaz@reddthat.com 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

my first thought when i heard about these tunnels being built

[–] ErmahgherdDavid@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 months ago

Kind of cool of them to lay on one car per tourist visiting Vegas this season!

Here is the tweet for people hoping to watch the video: https://xcancel.com/ranimolla/status/1965559696708006167#m

And the video doesn't even make it clear how bad the "traffic" was. Why did I expect it to show the car ahead stopped dead in the tunnel or something?
