The games really do pay a lot of attention to accuracy - although it's worth noting that some aspects of their portrayal are disputed by some historians. For example the Christianity thing - not that Christianity wasn't a big part of medieval European life, but most peasants in most of Europe only went to church like once or twice a year for the big holidays, so the portrayal in KCD may not be as accurate as it seems at first glance.

Anyway black people and gay people definitely existed in medieval times so in that respect KCD2 is more accurate than the first one.

All of the colleges militarized their campus security! Plus a bunch of the leaders of the last round of protests have been expelled and/or deported!

Every day I feel more validated in my "they don't know what they're doing so they're doing a bunch of contradictory things" analysis.

What was "the war" in Pokemon? Lt Surge fought in it, and apparently Pokemon did too, but there hasn't been any prequel game that explores it.

But here's an interesting reading: so in early Pokemon content guns were a thing, but later on it was decided that guns don't exist in the Pokeverse. This could be explained in-universe - perhaps guns were a common sight at one time, but they've faded out as the Pokeverse's society has gotten more utopian. This can also be seen in the schemes of the Pokeverse's organized crime - Giovanni and Team Rocket were up to some bad stuff, racketeering, gambling, poaching, but as you go forward in time the worst crimes committed by society's anti-social element are tagging and petty larceny.

Could it be that "the war" was the final war, and Lt Surge was a member of the People's Army that finally defeated the bourgeoisie, allowing for the creation of utopian post-capitalist societies where lotteries are held just for fun, kids can go on cross-country trips unsupervised, and the only vestige of currency is play money paid out just for participating in society and used to buy non-essential things because all of the necessities of life are distributed for free?

It's not impossible!

I think it's because the action of showing off your vacation photos and talking about them is something that's established in our culture as a social thing. Yeah we've all joked about how lame it can be to sit through someone's vacation slides when they just go on forever and ever, but for every one of those social interactions there's a hundred where you just make small talk while flipping through and holding your phone for someone to see and it's a moment of human connection and sharing your life with another person.

The AI process takes that same activity and strips all of the meaning from it, rendering it uncanny. It reminds me of the androids in Nier who are emulating the visual aesthetics of human society but don't really understand why they're doing it.
