A lot were made but quite a few were shot down by the VPAAF and quite a few are also in boneyards used for parts to keep others flying.

The new Havana syndrome

Something about being born in that era makes you an entitled, impatient dickhead.

They must've been taught it somehow. I've heard this sentiment so much even from people who otherwise believe generational politics is bs.

I interacted with 3 strangers yesterday and was gendered correctly by each of them! I wasn't even dressed femme, just a t-shirt and jeans. I was feeling like utter shit yesterday mentally and that stopped me from sharing, but I didn't want this positivity to just die in my sea of depression. I also really hope the injection I did a little while ago helps with that.

I needed this I've been feeling down all weekend, but this is great for reminding me that I did in fact have a good week. Thank you for spreading positivity my nocturnal flying friend.

I made a new irl friend this week! We spent hours talking and it felt like no time had gone by at all. She's very comfy company and I'll be seeing her again next week!

This is disgusting but I also can't help but find it funny how this woman who probably barely thought about the knicks owner was living rent free in his head. It's so creepy though it makes my skin crawl.

Unfortunately it looks like the archive included the paywall block :/

It's okay, I'd spoiler it as gore or description of gore. Maybe it wasn't enough to need it, idk. I'm barely awake. I'll ask if other mods could take a look and restore it if I jumped the gun.

Sorry for the removal but this is too graphic to not be behind a spoiler imo.

I forgot that it's my mega week so no big info dump this time. Instead I bring a question: how do you practice gender self-care? Do you have any activities or rituals that make you feel more comfortable in your gender? Painting my nails and taking care of my hair are the most consistent ones. These shouldn't even be considered gendered activities by society, but I missed out on having long hair and painted nails when I was younger because of my assigned gender, so doing them now feels validating and gives me confidence.

Hi my trans siblings!

I'm late writing this mega this week, I had hoped to do more research but maybe I can add stuff and re-write this as the week goes on.

This time I'd like to share some information I stumbled across about 20th century trans icon Charlotte von Mahlsdorf. She was born in the Weimar Republic in 1928 and survived Nazi Germany to make it as the most prominent trans woman that I'm aware of in the DDR (GDR or East Germany). There she ran the Gründerzeit museum, dedicated to the founding period of the German Empire and the period of its industrialization. The museum ended up becoming a popular hotspot for the gay and I presume trans and queer scene in the DDR.

She was politically active, having been an unofficial informant of the Stasi which ideally I'd love more information on. Was she helping them identify Nazis? Surely being a trans woman would've lured a lot of reactionaries out from behind their masks in her presence. In fact, after the DDR was taken over by the BRD (West Germany) in 1990, it only took about one year before one of the parties she threw at the museum was the target of a neo-Nazi attack, at which point she announced she was considering leaving Germany. She eventually moved to Sweden in 1997, where I believe she lived the rest of her life.

She died of natural causes at the age of 74 during a visit to Berlin in 2002.

This has been more or less a summary of the Wikipedia article on her where I did check some sources, but I really want to learn more about her. I only learned of her in the past couple days, and there is a film about her from 1992 called I Am My Own Woman, by Rosa von Praunheim.

Hai everybody! :3

We haven't been around much lately, but we've missed you all <3

As much as we enjoy talking about electromagnetism and the like, we're really feeling trans joy as the theme for this mega post. And we'd love to hear some of the things that have brought you all some joy lately (without doxxing yourselves of course).

Something that is bringing us a lot of joy right now is seeing the local trans community finding each other and making joy for ourselves. They're planning events, going out, finding love and friendship, and refusing to allow our circumstances prevent us from enjoying life and having fun as much as possible. And we're part of it! We've been doing the same! And it doesn't just make this life tolerable in the face of all the bad stuff happening, it's making this life beautiful and filled with love and happiness.

In order to try to get back in the habit of participating here, we're going to try to at least post one bit of trans joy every day here this week.

First up at 13:00 EST (19:00 UTC) is Jennifer's Body (2009): a horror film that seems to be becoming a sapphic horror classic. I don't remember if it's explicitly gay, but if not it's definitely not that subtle. The film follows Needy's retelling of her relationship with her best friend Jennifer, while navigating high school romance and boys.

Next up at 15:00 EST (21:00 UTC) is Bit (2019): also a sapphic horror film, this time following a woman named Laurel as she moves to LA following her transition and finishing high school looking to start her new life.

Watch on blorp's tracha channel: https://blorp.bot.nu/o/tracha

We're back with more trans movies! This week we're reveling in trans wrath.

First up at 13:00 EST (18:00 UTC) is The People's Joker (2024), starring Vera Drew as the Joker who fights to bring comedy to a grim city (I think, I haven't seen it yet).

Next up at 15:00 EST (20:00 UTC) is T-Blockers (2023), a movie about a young filmmaker and her friends trying to live life, but a parasite takes over her small town.

Watch here: https://blorp.bot.nu/o/tracha

We're back with more episodes of My Life as a Teenage Robot (MLaaTR) at 12:00 est (17:00 utc), Booksmart (2019) at 13:00 est (18:00 utc), and Some Like it Hot (1959) at 15:00 est (20:00 utc)

Watch here: https://blorp.bot.nu/o/tracha

Booksmart is a coming of age story that follows two nerds who make a pact to party and break the rules on their last day of classes of high school. Including a sapphic romance plot.

Some like it hot is a classic drama about two musicians who decide to cross dress and pose as women in order to escape the mob.

Sorry for the late post, I'm gonna try to get things rolling with My Life as a Teenage Robot around 12:00 EST (17:00 UTC) but might be a bit late. I woke up late and still need to get things ready

Watch here: https://blorp.bot.nu/o/tracha

We should be starting Wildhood at 13:00 EST (18:00 UTC), followed by Bottoms at around 15:15 EST (20:15 UTC) after an intermission.

Wildhood is a coming of age and self-discovery story about a boy from the Mi'kmaq teenager who has been separated from his people and culture by his father. This one is pretty heavy but I thought it was really good when I watched it.

Bottoms I somehow haven't seen yet but sounds like it could be hilarious. It stars two gay girls in high school who start a fight club in order to hookup with other girls.

Hello all!

I meant to do one of these again sooner, but it's finally time for another trans movie day. We're streaming Dawn, Her Dad, and the Tractor (2021) at 18:00 UTC, 13:00 EST, and V for Vendetta (2005) at 20:00 UTC, 15:00 EST. Join us earlier starting at 17:00 UTC, 12:00 EST for episodes of My Like as a Teenage Robot, which will also shown during the ~half hour intermission between the two films.

Dawn, Her Dad, and the Tractor, is a film about a woman named Dawn who after the death of her mother, returns from the city to her small hometown, for the first time since transitioning. Be warned, this movie contains painfully accurate depictions of transphobia and transmisogyny. It is also a very emotionally heavy film.

V for Vendetta is probably not a new title for most of you. For for the uninitiated, it takes place in a post pandemic fascist England, where a attempts to bring about revolution. While not explicitly trans, the subtext is very queerly there (that was a typo but I like it so it stays) which isn't surprising given that the screenplay was written by the Wachowski Sisters.

I'm using Tith and Cud's taglist for D&D night as a base, but please let me know if you'd like to be added or removed as this turns into a c/traa specific taglist for watching trans and generally queer coded movies or shows.

Hi everyone and everymany! For this mega I've decided to finally make the continuation of my first ever mega! This week it's all about electromagnetism! I'm going to focus on the very basics though, since this is such a big topic and I started this late. Hopefully I'll continue off of this to yap about electric motors, generators, solenoids, etc. in a future mega.

Electromagnetism

What is an Electromagnetism?

As it turns out, electricity and magnetism are fundamentally linked. Every electric or magnetic phenomena you've ever encountered is due to the electromagnetic force, and the electric and magnetic fields that it gives rise to. In fact, electromagnetism is one of the 4 fundamental forces in physics: gravity, electromagnetism, the weak nuclear force, and the strong nuclear force. Actually, under some conditions, it appears that the weak force and electromagnetism combine into one force, however that is well outside the scope of my understanding. Electromagnetism is also the origin of the discovery of quantum physics.

Charge

The fundamental unit of electromagnetism is charge. If this reminds you of charging a battery, that's not a coincidence. You might be aware protons and electrons are electrically charged particles. This means that they have a non-zero electrical charge. Specifically they both have opposite charges of +1.6x10^-19^ coulombs (C) for a proton, and -1.6x10^-19^C for an electron. A coulomb is a unit of electrical charge. You may be more familiar with the unit mAh or milliamp-hours, which is also a unit of charge equal to 3.6 coulombs. Also, it's probably what the charge capacity of the battery in your phone is given in. If your phone has a 5000mAh battery, then it has a charge capacity of 18000 (5000*3.6) coulombs. Which means that the fully charged battery has the potential to flow 1.125x10^23^ (18000/1.6x10^-19^) electrons through the circuits it is powering before it needs to be charged again.

But what is charge? I said it's the fundamental unit of electromagnetism, but what does that mean? It basically means that the charge of a particle or object describes the strength of its interactions with the electromagnetic field, in a very similar way to how mass describes the strength with which an object interacts with the gravitational field. In fact the equations for the force of gravity and the electrostatic force (the force between two stationary charged particles, also called the coulomb force) is basically the same. For gravity, the force of attraction is given by the equation F=G*m~1~*m~2~/r^2^, where G is the gravitational constant, m~1~ and m~2~ are the masses of the two objects, and r is the distance between them. The electrostatic force of repulsion is given by the equation F=k~e~*q~1~*q~2~/r^2^. The only differences are that instead of the gravitational constant G, we're using Coulomb's constant k~e~, and the electric charges of each of the two particles q~1~ and q~2~.

Current

Current is just the movement of charges. That's it. Real simple. If you take electrons and flow them through a wire, you have current. Specifically, current is a measure of how quickly charge is moving. The common unit of current is an Amp, short for Ampere. Going back, we talked about the unit of charge milliamp-hours (mAh), which gives a clue as to what an amp is. An amp is a coulomb per second, which means a wire carrying a 1 amp current will have 1 coulomb worth of electrons moving past every point along the wire, every second. So a milliamp-hour means the amount of charge that flows over an hour with a current of 1 milliamp (one thousandth of an amp).

Magnetism

"But Switchy, this is electromagnetism, how does magnetism come into the picture?" Well sorry for keeping you waiting, I had to explain current first, and to explain current I had to explain charge. Magnetism, and specifically electromagnetism arises as a result of moving charges (current). As it turns out, any moving charged particle has a circular magnetic field around it:

Moving charge is just current, and this is how electromagnets work: make a loop of wire and pass a current through it and it will act as a magnetic dipole so long as the current is flowing:

Electromagnetic Induction

Kind of like how a moving charge (current) creates a magnetic field around it, a moving/changing magnetic field will create an electric field and try to induce a current if there are charges present. In general, the magnetic field doesn't "want" to change. So if there are charges that can be moved so that an otherwise changing magnetic field stays the same, then those charges will experience a force that will cause them to move and form a current (if they are able to move freely) that creates a magnetic field that opposes the change.

There is so much more I want to talk about, and I'd love to go into much more depth, but I need to get some sleep. I'd love to yap about electrical potential/voltage, electromagnetic waves and their particle duality, the birth of quantum physics, etc. etc. But I also do have some goals in mind with these threads, and this is some basic background that combined with the magnet mega I made before, should lay much of the foundation to talk about electric motors and other cool stuff in a later mega.

Hi everybody!

I've been having a craving to watch Hackers (1995) again which, ended up becoming a plan between @Carcharodonna@hexbear.net and I to screen it along with Interstella 5555 on the tracha channel on blorptube. We're planning on starting with Interstella 5555 at 6PM UTC (1PM EST), though I'll be in the channel earlier streaming some episodes of the extremely (and apparently unintentionally) trans-coded My Life as a Teenage Robot.

Hackers (1995): This movie was such an experience to watch for the first time and I am always up for re-watching it. It feels very queer-coded, has a wonderful soundtrack and visuals, but it does have some of the rougher edges common in the 90s (see content warnings below).

Content warnings for Hackers (mild spoilers):

  • Sexualization of high schoolers: the protagonists are high school seniors and their high school along with a party are the settings for several scenes where their classmates are sexualized for the camera. It's not as bad as I remember a lot of 90s movies being, but it was still creepy to see. They also do the whole adult actors playing adolescents thing.
  • Disrespect and sexualization of queer identities: Drag is part of the movie, however they do unfortunately play a prank by advertising the subject of the prank in the personals section to get attention from "transvestites" (outdated term for crossdressers, drag artists, and trans people alike) where the prank is that the subhject is a married cishet guy why is disgusted by the attention. Again, nowhere near as bad as many other 90s movies, but it did still suck to see.
  • Flashing lights

Interstella 5555 (2003): An animated musical featuring music by Daft Punk, I haven't seen it yet but have wanted to since I first listened to Daft Punk nearly 2 decades ago.
