I love how people will describe how to fix a game franchise and never once mention game mechanics, programming, style, whether they have a good idea to work from, etc

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago

if these tourists actually respected games as a medium they would be very offended by this

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 23 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Uhh everyone knows that if you simply put a bunch of nerds that look like 90s John Carmack and John Romero in a room with computers, pizza, Mountain Dew, and posters of bikini babes on the walls, good games will just magically come out

[–] comrade_pibb@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

in a Marxist sense, a bunch of nerds that look like 90s John Carmack and John Romero in a room with computers, pizza, Mountain Dew, and posters of bikini babes on the walls are precisely the material conditions required for vibeo gane

[–] 30_to_50_Feral_PAWGs@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago (4 children)

False, you can do also bunch of nerds that look like 80s Pete Burns in a room with computers, pizza, Mountain Dew, and posters of bikini babes and you will end up with video games with some banger synthwave soundtracks.

That is a different genre of post that while typically more sophisticated than the chud g*mer still ultimately fails to understand the creative process.

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago (9 children)

Reading that made me wince but also feel bad for the poster because they probably got torn to shreds in the replies

i hate to say this but that is the second most generic protagonist i can think of, right after the genius detective who is also an addict trope

[–] thecaptaintrout@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I think there are much more generic protagonists our there.

Super soldier #4, every day man who's car broke down in weird village, isekai pervert, 'you are chosen one who will defeat a great evil', random Japanese teenager

[–] novibe@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 week ago

The last 3 are just the same person.

I would only hire people who are passionate and actually good at what they do

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 29 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Yeah man gutting studios and firing everyone's friends to destroy morale is famously a good way to make a product better and not worse. I'm sure all the people you didn't fire won't immediately start looking for work elsewhere.

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's also famously exactly the opposite of how Microsoft usually does things.

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago (2 children)

"first ill fire all the gays and nonwhites and ill do it publicly"

microsoft's lawyers immediately stop him to prevent the slew of employment lawsuits they are about to lose

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago

I'm 99 percent sure the first draft of this guy's comment read I WOULD PERSONALLY SHOOT THEM ALL IN THE HEAD before he sheepishly went back to edit it

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The whole "livestreamed" thing jumped at me, because, sure, if you believe the nonwhites and women are ruining your videogame it makes sense to get rid of them, but the fact it has to be a spectacle it makes it somehow even more disgusting

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago

Now I don't know shit about shit, but here's my plan which is definitely good and smart: first I'd purge all the people responsible for smoothing over employee morale and making it look like 90% of our hires aren't just the dipshit white boy friends of some manager, and I'd do it in a way that opens us up to lawsuits while making a thorough chain of evidence of what we're doing; then I'd purge all the people who know what they're doing and got in on merit, also in a way that would open us up to a whole lot of civil liability and was thoroughly documented, of course; then I'd go find some amateurs who say my favorite slurs on twitter, and hire them on the spot for being special good boys!

It's foolproof and no one can tell me otherwise!

[–] fakeman_pretendname@feddit.uk 22 points 1 week ago

If they were to hire based on skill and merit, they'd end up with more piercings and more dyed hair.

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Why does this scream high schooler who hasn't bathed in three days

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Could also very well be a 35 year old who hasn't bathed in three days

[–] orlando@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago
[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Let me preface this with saying I don't know what I'm talking about

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

But it would work!

[–] ComRed@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago
[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Microsoft, hire this man

Yeah, do it!

This is not reverse psychology

[–] Enjoyer_of_Games@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hiring literally any human being would be a righting of the ship for them at this point though.

[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"Hiring"? Is that when you have to pay money? Not interested.

The modding community would be sourced for real talent

So no shade on modders, they do some great work. But modding code in an existent piece of software and building code from scratch are leagues apart. That’s like assuming because someone does entertaining “playing [song] in [genre the original song was not in] style” videos, that must make them an expert composer.

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Even if they hired the guy who made Cursed Halo and all of those other incredible mods he would jump out of a window after a month of dealing with Microsoft's boneheaded upper management

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

part of the appeal of modding is not having any management tbh, just make any stupid shit and throw it out into the world

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

i'd hire luigi and bring him to all my meetings and have a covert signal for him to nod or shake his head when the exec's lips are moving

[–] BobDole@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago

All of my big booba 4K skin retexture mods beg to differ

septum piercing and dyed hair

I'm begging you to come up with any new post-2015 material.

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

Not gonna happen

People who work in video game development are very often young professionals who are liberal (at worst). Good luck finding a cohort of brainless zombies with no opinions or passion about anything other than sitting at computers 3D modelling binary male-female characters because you've banned wokeness and yell at anyone who deviates from your rigid conservative vision.

Nobody would work for your shitty bland "non-political" game studio. No dyed hair, tattoos, or piercings allowed. No complaining about shit work conditions or joining a trade union. Only plain white t-shirts, Hitler youth haircuts and complete subservience to the bossman (because bosswoman would be too DEI).

The gamedev equivalent of replacing your coco pops with polystyrene and your milk with warm piss. No thanks.

[–] h0ll0w5p4c3@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

Best thing halo studios can do is retire the IP

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago (3 children)

And you know the funny thing about all of this? It would actually work.

Hey guys the funny thing about this is it would actually work

Microsoft, Hire this man.

Not to be a grammar Israeli but there was no reason to capitalize the 'h' in hire; also this experiment was already tested at twitter when Elon Musk took over and fired everyone who knew how everything worked and then had to beg them to come back.

Also if you did all this and then one of the people you hired dyed their hair or got a septum piercing do you think they'll suddenly take a massive nerf to their software engineering skill? Are you playing so many video games you think you can alter your stats with different gear or appearance options?

[–] CupcakeOfSpice@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

I'm gonna have to steal grammar Israeli, that got me good

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

perhaps they meant a full stop rather than a comma

Grammar Israeli

I'm using this from now on

[–] ClassIsOver@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

It's been this long and they still don't know what DEI hiring actually means.

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Is there even a "modding community" for modern Halo games? Everything I see is for Halo 1.
