I was walking through a public cemetary that had a section full of freemasons' symbols, so I looked it up online and was served the freemasons' subreddit. It's got some good stuff.

On one hand these secret societies are silly as hell on the other hand there’s some great freemason buildings in my city (no longer used by them) plus they’ve managed to make new friends as adults which is no small feat

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 46 points 1 month ago (5 children)

honestly we need state intervention on the "make new friends as adults" front. I'm talking state backed bowling leagues (and other stuff) that you get paid for attending. Call it a direct investment in the social fabric.

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 26 points 1 month ago (2 children)

gunpoint you will bowl all 10 frames!

[–] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 31 points 1 month ago (1 children)

COUSIN, I AM NO LONGER *ASKING* YOU TO GO BOWLING!

Legitimately the worst thing imaginable

[–] fox@hexbear.net 26 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I don't think you need to pay people to attend so much as put in legal third-place protections so they can't be ratfucked into nonexistence by landlords but that'll never happen

[–] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

I need to make an effort post about how third-spaces were thought up as a concept by a chud boomer. Until then watch this video in the background as you do something else https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8E5MegoW2pA

it's called joining a communist party

[–] Athena5898@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

I support this.

[–] CommunistBear@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

I literally just joined a state sponsored softball league. It's completely free and the city pays for the umpires and parks

[–] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

It seems like some of these Lodges are just excuses for dudes to grill, which is just good-hearted fun, and some of them are ghoulish. Land of contrasts, just like people who play vampire: the masquerade

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 35 points 1 month ago (2 children)

You know, if someone is going to join a 'secret' society, they should at least join one that's actually secret

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 35 points 1 month ago

The Freemasons are functionally a country club and honestly they're pretty transparent about it all. Like not the internals, that's all chattenham house rules, but like you can just ask them about it

Is that the freemasons fault or is that a joke about their very dull reality?

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

The corporate executives and politicians who maintain the status quo make up senior leadership to the point it is beyond coincidence and lean into the deliberate intention.

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago (5 children)

I've assumed for a while that freemasons are mostly chuds because of all the old people and the No PoLiTiCs rule.

[–] WideningGyro@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago

An old friend had a side-job as a waiter/server in the local lodge. She had an NDA and wouldn't tell us too many details, but based on what they ate, I'd say either chuds or very old people (or both, I guess). Lots of meat, gravy and potatoes and very little else.

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I guess it depends on the 'branch'? I know a radical vegan hare Krishna Freemason.

Yeah, but you have to consider Freemasonism with Burger Characteristics.

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Its just a petite bourgeois networking operation. The chuds in my town are almost all free masons and some of them work as real estate agents and their boss is also a free mason.

i've always assumed the masons existed so that guys could get their dick sucked by other guys in secret and I mean that both literally as in gay fellatio and also in the sense of being a sycophant

[–] RiotDoll@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

my great grandfather was a mason of some local repute

my grandfather was asked to be initiated and he was like

"actually i dont join things like this without knowing what you stand for, what you do, and what my place would be. Go fuck yourself."

annnnd now i'm realizing some shit about myself and where it came from as i say it lol

(to say i've flubbed and snubbed people for them not being willing to explain themselves is an understatement)

post in daylight or not at all imo

Secret society membership numbers really fell off after the Sasquatch hunting craze took off

[–] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago

talkin-about-me What's wrong with the Masons?! I'm a Mason! Hey, that fella's talkin' about me!

makes-a-difference And that makes a difference, doesn't it?

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 19 points 1 month ago (2 children)

My father is/was a Freemason. Idk if he still is, I've disowned him. I used to mow his Lodge's lawn for a bit of extra money as a kid.

Anyway it's been turned into an illuminati themed tavern.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Anyway it's been turned into an illuminati themed tavern

So, still Freemasons then

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

I'm guessing it's the exclusivity that makes the difference.

New World Order? More like New World Ordering a round of shots grillman

on another instance i was asking whats th deal with freemasons and somebody made a freemason throwaway to answer our questions so assuming that was real they could be amongst us

[–] somename@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It’s just a social club for dudes. Guys gotta have some pageantry to excuse hanging out, but not the gay kind, to hang out regularly. Unless it’s a sports or drinking thing. Or if they're gay.

Or under 35.

[–] ratboy@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

I never realized that Freemason outfits were so

Dweebish

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

Seems to be the classic "petit borgies larping as working class with silly costumes". I think the aprons are based on stone and metal working attire.

[–] CliffordBigRedDog@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

why doesnt this guy just ring up the bilderburgs and rothschilds or whatever and tell them to cut it out smh

[–] Athena5898@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Free Mason are fucking weird. They are ideology all over the place. My father in law and his family are all masons. My wife thought about joining back in what we call "the before times" back before our eggs cracked and we were more reactionary. And the stuff she would tell me is wild.
