I get hella stoned and watch Foodfight! at least once a year. It’s my “favorite” movie.

Everything about it, from the implied beastiality between Charlie Sheen and Hillary Duff, to the weird gay bat, to the shitweasel is a masterclass in what not to do in a movie. It transcends badness and becomes something sublime. The entire plot is about how store brands/generics are Nazis, and one of the Nazis absolutely chews the scenery in a way that makes Brian Blessed look reserved.

By all accounts The Boondock Saints is a "bad" movie but we all watched it when we were 12 and thought it was fucking awesome and still do.

[–] GrayBackgroundMusic@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago

Bad? By whom? I fucking love that film.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh no. I haven't watched it since I was a teenager, please don't ruin my memories.

Can’t be, it has Willem Dafoe chewing the scenery

Equilibrium (2002) wasn’t well received when it came out. I think it’s still “bad” on RT but imdb has it at 7.3 now. I don’t care if gun-kata is silly and dumb, it looks cool as fuck.

Velocipastor is an amazing bad movie that intended to be bad. There's even a scene where a car explodes and it's just some text that says "VFX of car exploding"

It's about a pastor that can turn into a velociraptor... When there's gore it's like obviously fake, like a head rolls off and it's clear as day that it's a mannequin head. It's so bad it's amazing.

Oh yeah, and there are ninjas.

[–] EditsHisComments@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

And the fact every flashback of the pastor was in a church of a different denomination lol

The Riddick Chronicles. Bad acting, bad CGI, Simple stupid inconsistent plot, one dimensional characters. perfect bad sci-fi.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 7 points 1 month ago

I have a real soft spot for how absurdly bad/good those films are.

Kung pow enter the fist. Steve oedekerk, not Bob, intentionally made a bad movie by over dubbing rewriting bad 70s martial arts films. It's absurd and stupid. I love it.

They said bad movie. This is a masterpiece.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So many good quotes from that film.

That Speed Racer movie that the Wachowskis made. I’m not gonna pretend it’s underrated, and I’m not gonna try to convince you to like it. They made it for me and me alone.

[–] duckythescientist@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

They just released a remastered Blu-ray of it! I bought the disc, but I didn't actually have a Blu-ray player, so idk if they did a good job with the remaster yet.

[–] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

A remaster??? I hope they made it more colorful.

I watched that one in theatres! I also watched Baby Geniuses 2, Meet the Spartans, and the Ridiculous 6 in theatres because I guess I attract garbage.

Bulletproof Monk. It's corny but it puts a smile on my face every time.

Super Mario Bros. 1993. It is by far the movie that puts the biggest "fun" smile on my face, especially when watching it stoned. It's so goofy in the best way and comes across as funny in a way that makes me have fun with it every time.

Sucker Punch

The internet loves to shit on it. I've always enjoyed it. It's a visual/audio treat.

[–] abigscaryhobo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

See I never got that either. There is some kind of story about escapism and dealing with trauma in there, but it's definitely second fiddle to the fact that you get to see badass ladies with samurai swords running a bunny mech through ww1 trenches and fighting giant samurai with a gatling gun. Sure it's dumb, but so is Fast and Furious

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

It's a genius retelling of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It's also schlocky, pointless, fanservice-y action. It's dumb and I kind of love it.

Probably Kung Pow: Enter the Fist, but honorable mention to Chopping Mall and Primo Baby for being so terrible they're amusing.

[–] Zedd00@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ice pirates is way up there. Amazing cast, great sets, the absolute dumbest plot.

The Mummy (1999) I believe was panned by critics at release, but I think it's an absolutely fantastic and humorous adventure film.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 5 points 1 month ago

It's a solid 10. Brendan Fraser's finest work.

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (5 children)

Bubba Ho-Tep. Bruce Campbell is a still-alive Elvis forgotten in a nursing home. He’s got to fight a mummy that’s sucking the souls out of old people’s assholes. Also Black JFK assists. It really shouldn’t work, but it somehow manages to.

Shoot 'Em Up.

It's kinda like John Wick but also kinda like Bugs Bunny.

Not yet seen mentioned:

UHF - Weird Al's good-bad classic

Spice World - The Spice Girls knew what they were doing.

Shaolin Soccer - Yes, Ninjas would be good at sports.

It's a tie between: The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the 8th Dimension

See John Lithgow chew the scenery as the villain, plus Jamaicans are the good guy aliens. Classic bad movie, but fun to watch.

and

Remo Williams

It's terrible, it's racist and sexist in a 1980s way. But it has Kate Mulgrew and she's awesome in it.

Stuff I haven't seen mentioned yet:

1984 Dune. It's one of my favorite movies period.

Return of the Killer Tomatoes is on my top 10 favorite bad movies I'd say. Top 20 at least.

The Tune (Bill Plympton movie).

Clue (and very similar Murder By Death)

Empire Records

Cool as Ice (Rifftrax edition)

Actually, on that front - The Room + Birdemic (Rifftrax edition)

Zardoz

Original Little Shop of Horrors

Getting any? by Takeshi Kitano, the greatest filmmaker ever. https://boxd.it/13h6

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7nCJdwf0ww

While pursuing his dream of having car sex, a goofy middle-aged man makes all the wrong moves and ends up enrolling in a number of crazy escapades.

It's so bad it's good.

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (3 children)

No ones said "The Room" yet, so I'll go with that. Saw it once with Tommy and Greg in the audience, and another with just Greg (and a bunch more without either). But the ones with the cast there, you couldn't take a step in the theater without stepping on a plastic spoon.

Either that or anything by Neil Breen.
