So funny story. In Denmark ARLA (big ass farmer-owned cooperative but its farmers so its not cool it sucks) lobbyed HARD to make it so plant milk couldn't be called milk^[this is extra funny because milk originally referred to the juices excreted by plants]. The assumption was that the only reason people bought oat milk and the like was because they thought it was like cow milk and would taste like cow milk.
After making it illegal to call plant milk milk ARLA saw no increase in sales.

They recently tried doing this nonsense with "sausage" as well.
Also funny because turd in Swedish is literally "poop sausage".
The milk thing pisses me off in a special way though because they all run around saying shit like "uhhh when has milk ever refferred to something from a plant?" when 1. THAT'S WHAT IT STARTED OUT REFERRING TO and 2. WE LITERALLY HAVE A PLANT NAMED MÆLKEBØTTE (Milk jar^[Bøtte refers to a small round container with a lid, so not a jar, but you know how translation is])
Right, If anything it should be required by all to specify what type of milk/sausage we're talking about.
"Do you want meat- or plant-milk with your coffee?"
They tried this with patties in Canada I think. They tried to say the word patty could only refer to a beef patty.
Intuitively if you wanted to see if oat milk tasted like cows milk you'd kind of lose 1 sale in the philosophical sense.
I don't believe a rational actor is capable of not understanding that oat milk is (likely) a vegan product.

They seem to think the market for plant milk is entirely new-age woo woo hippies and that no one who buys plant milk is rational. All their commercials kind of focus on "oooh the earth the nature the spirits we are all in harmony", but in an even more stereotyping kind of way.
This commercial should be considered a hate crime of some kind
It manages to both offend me because that's what you think of your marketbase? AND because that's how you would make a commercial for your imaginary marketbase?
That's crazy that literally just assuming your target audience is lactose-intolerant carnivores would lead to more effective marketing
It absolutely cooks my brain that gym bro memes from 2012 are common knowledge among chuds now. the whole 'soy has phytoestrogens therefore soy makes you a woman' felt like a psyop even back then
Wish the argument about how many days there are in a week would break containment

I think they've forgotten the phytoestrogen propaganda entirely and it has become its own self sustaining soy mythos.
What is even wilder is that the US grows a lot of soybeans, and the ideal target for MAGA would probably be a soybean farmer.
The vast majority of that soy is for cattle feed, not human consumption. American soy farmers are an essential node of the beef industry.

Even wilder. Soy could be the primary protein for most people and be better quality than what they eat now.
Oh, you care about energy efficiency? How many steps between the sun and your meal? Checkmate, bloodmouths. :im-vegan:
And that soy actually tastes awful. I explicitly try to find non American soy for consumption
Ops are really easy to spot if you pay attention to how things are internationally. There is no "anti-soy" in the UK, nobody calls anything soy except milk afaik. And tofu is tofu, nobody has strong opinions about tofu one way or any other.
The op is regionally specific to the US and whoever is running it isn't targeting non-US countries from what I can tell.
It’s unfortunate that tofu and beyond beef and other plant-based proteins marketed themselves as meat replacements.
Beyond beef, for instance, tastes absolutely nothing like beef… but it still slaps. If you go in expecting a 1:1 meat replacement (which most brain dead carnivores are, unfortunately) you’re gonna be disappointed. If you go in thinking “wow this is a new ingredient that will open up a whole new realm of flavor and texture in my cooking” then you’re in good shape.
Of course, you have to actually cook your own food to begin with if this is going to work, which… I’m realizing fewer and fewer people cook, and even fewer know how to cook, and fewer still know how to cook and actually enjoy cooking.
That's my biggest problem in trying to go vegan these days - I'm lazy. I cook maybe once or twice a month, beyond ramen noodles or sticking a frozen pizza in the oven. Vegan-oriented restaurants tend to be overpriced, small-serving-size health-food garbage, and vegan options at my go-tos (pizza places, Burger joints, Taco stands) are bland-tasting afterthoughts.
I don't want quinoa, kale and tofu. I want a baked potato slathered in margarine, I want greasy roasted carrots and onions cooked in vegetable oil and coated in salt and spices. I want big starchy portion sizes and I want them at half the price of a meal with real protein. And I fucking hate beans.
Beyond beef, for instance, tastes absolutely nothing like beef
I disagree and it actually does but it has off tastes too it that imo are probably the pomegranate extract or something idk
the meat eaters will refuse the beans until we're all eating bugs.
{
|meat bugs}
Meat eaters don't refuse beans, most* people don't consider beans to be comparable to meat. American Chili (Beans and Meat) is one of the most yeehaw epic bacon things of all time. Most* people don't think about nutrition at all beyond calories, or doctor (internet) recommended dietary needs and/or restrictions.
*
obvious caveat western/us context
Texans would object to the beans usually. I don't. One time I passed off vegan chili as beef based to my family. It was funny.
IT'S JUST BEAN CHEESE
I used that same logic in Cheese Noir. Parody really is dead.
What is even wilder is that the US grows a lot of soybeans, and the ideal target for MAGA would probably be a soybean farmer.
Zionist-owned CBS News put out a propaganda segment which said that soybean farmers are going to commit suicide because China stopped buying US soybeans due to Trump's tariffs, but framed it as if it was China's fault.
I've been a vegan for almost 5 years, now. I love tofu.
Most things that appeal to an assigned role/status quo/peer pressure is social manipulation by the ruling class, yes. Appeals to patriarchal fears of not fitting in because "soy milk is marketed as fat free and therefore its for women and the gays" in this case.
And as appealing to masculinity works less and less, we'll see appeals to other forms of social conditioning that targets peoples desire to fit in. "Keep your head down, you don't want to be cringe, right?"
You see it a lot, everyone falls for it.
I read before that consumers are not logical at all and it blew my mind. All purchases are emotional. A man goes and buys a gigantic truck and says it is because "he needs it to do work", because his appraisal of himself is he doesn't believe in BS, he is logical, he is the one who gets things done.
But the marketers know the truth: he is buying the truck because he is insecure, socially scared and wants to project intimidation at others. He is a conformist who wants admittance to the "in-group". For this reason, he will financially overcompensate to "prove" his manliness to himself and the in-group.
The man purchasing isn't self-aware enough to recognize his own motives, which makes it easier for the salesperson to exploit their vulnerabilities for profit. Sales 101 textbooks basically say this : in order to sell something, you put forward an unspoken emotional proposition disguised as a logical choice.
it's hip to be cringe
Damn I must be super hip and cool
"I like bananas because they have no bones"
Most meat taste like ass if you don't marinate or season it at all too.
Im still struggling with the texture of the tofu, but that's definitely user error. I can nail a flavor just as good as i could with seasoning any other protein for a meal.
Fuckin love tofu
Sicko me literally hand fed soycurl 'carne asada' to a half dozen co-workers today. My partner made it and I thought it was good, so I shared
Soycurl tastes like wizard food. Sooo good
As someone who has eaten tofu for decades, it is like oatmeal (in my opinion). It is bland until you learn to spice it properly. But even getting someone to cook their own cheeseburger is impossible if they are addicted to the convenience and stability of corporate food.
But I agree with your wider point. It was obvious to me that the whole "soy causes feminization via phytoestrogen" is just pesudo-scientific disinformation, but it was effective working class targeted propaganda in the USA. Undoubtedly it is the massive dairy lobby behind it all. The oil industry did the same with global warming. And every capitalist joins their bandwagon because they are all united against environmentalism of any kind, even to save their own future family members.
I also find it weird that soy farmers are the salt of the earth types who make up Trump's base (I live in the Midwest in soybean country), and it would make sense to advance their interests. But the system isn't logical, it is a quilt made of many swaths of corruption, some competing against each other (dairy vs soy).
