The vast majority of that soy is for cattle feed, not human consumption. American soy farmers are an essential node of the beef industry.
Even wilder. Soy could be the primary protein for most people and be better quality than what they eat now.

And that soy actually tastes awful. I explicitly try to find non American soy for consumption
