Texans would object to the beans usually. I don't. One time I passed off vegan chili as beef based to my family. It was funny.

I didn’t say it.
No, it was a general lament. Many Americans have said this in my presence, quoting Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory, but also believing it earnestly.
I tried to make chili “the right way” once, by rehydrating and blending up various dried chilis. Unfortunately it sucked, the pouch at the grocery store tastes better.
Could be I just did it wrong though.
