as someone else said: now his time travel experiment is worthless, cause there’s a very good reason no one from the future wanted to go party with him

[–] raccoon@lemmy.ml 78 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He was dead when we found out, how the fuck would he come back in time?

[–] Shrubbery@piefed.social 66 points 1 month ago (6 children)

Being able to time travel implies he could also jump forward in time (e.g. to check his posthumous reputation).

[–] Elgenzay@lemmy.ml 31 points 1 month ago (1 children)

But why does Stephen Hawking not being able to time travel mean time travel doesn't exist?

[–] corvi@piefed.social 39 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Probably a reference to his “time travelers party”, a tongue-in-cheek way he used to suggest backwards time travel is impossible

[–] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 22 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Maybe no one came to his party because they knew he was on the list

[–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Or maybe the time travelers went back and faked his name onto the list as a prank.

[–] Elgenzay@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Ah right, so they would have given him the technology to do so i guess is what it's implying

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 5 points 1 month ago

Why would they do that, they know he's on the list.

Going forward is sadly the only way we can time travel. I explained this to Stephen in a couple weeks.

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Yeah...a time traveller would be able to jump ~~forward~~ less backward in time to check that.

But Stephen Hawking wasn't a time traveller, he just wanted time travellers to visit him.

How would he even go about removing it. Its not like "the files" are a stack of random paper pages in a safe somewhere.

[–] Maiq@piefed.social 40 points 1 month ago (4 children)

He could go back in time and give his caretaker a note to give to him a week before they met that said "And STAY AWAY from that Epstein... He's a bad egg!".

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 13 points 1 month ago (3 children)

But he’s dead not a time traveler.

[–] mkwt@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

Which theory explains why he has not accomplished the above.

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think the point is he was attempting to reach out to time travelers... or skeptically making fun of the idea with the time travelers party that no one showed up for.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 19 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

If you were a time traveller, would you want to go back in time to hang out with someone mentioned in the Epstein files?

This all proves that time travellers are real, because they didn't go to his party knowing about his Epstein links.

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Are you saying Maiq is a Liar?

[–] Orygin@sh.itjust.works 36 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Was he implicated in nefarious shit?
Afaik Epstein had a thing for physics and other physicists are in the files because he liked the subject.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

Lawrence Krauss is one who is definitely not innocent based on his disgusting messages.

[–] red_bull_of_juarez@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah, there's all kinds of names in there, but not in a bad context.

[–] Orygin@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago

There's even the manual for bash since it was probably installed somewhere on his machine/servers

[–] Azrael@reddthat.com 24 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Does anybody actually believe that Stephen Hawking was involved in the illegal activities?

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I believe that he was probably a sexual person in some form and he probably had money so maybe he might have paid for sex. But I have no idea really.

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Another factor here is that Epstein was obsessed with physics and being friends with physicists.

While Epstein was always a monster. He could hide it around certain people.

But from everything I've read, the monster always comes out. And we all know what being Epstein's friend eventually entails.

[–] Azrael@reddthat.com 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (3 children)

That's pure speculation. Your argument is what is referred to as "guilt by association". Your argument has no basis. It wouldn't hold up in court.

[–] Bullerfar@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

These people don't care. I got downvoted to hell by saying the same thing. Apparently faktual evidence isn't the norm in here.

[–] Azrael@reddthat.com 4 points 1 month ago

You're probably right. A story is more important than facts to them.

Maybe in his earlier life. He was married more than once and had three children.

His name does appear in the Epstein files, but he was never actually accused of anything related to Epstein. To say that Hawking was a pedophile is speculation at best.

Maybe no one showed up to his time travel party cuz everyone knew he was a creep.

[–] invertedspear@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 month ago

Doesn’t that just mean he never figured it out? Doesn’t mean it’s impossible for everyone forever.

[–] BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

he did, but that is now a seperate timeline that we are not living in

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is it though? There's the whole causality argument, where if time travel does get invented in the future, then you can only travel back to that moment

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 2 points 1 month ago

How would you know you've invented time travel then?

You're basically describing a real-time machine.

[–] harrison_fnord@reddthat.com 11 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Didn't he also cheat on his wife with his caretaker?

[–] xx3rawr@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

And his movie just framed it as something like "needing" to travelling away with the nurse.

He traveled forward to ADD his name to give additional notoriety to the files like a Chad.

[–] Heikki2@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

What if time travelers didn't want to travel back bc he was in the files?

[–] homes@piefed.world 7 points 1 month ago

Irony: he authored those very papers, so his name is all over them

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Edit: Joke already got made and I shoulda checked.

[–] Cattail@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Well hawking died before time travel was invented. Now time travelers probably visited hawking while he was on Epstien Island

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Wait I thought it was someone else sharing the same name?

[–] Allero@lemmy.today 8 points 1 month ago

Nah, the dude really was quite shitty on several personal accounts

Sphinx has zero logic to their words

[–] diffaldo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago

That is hard truth.

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 4 points 1 month ago

Stymied by being dead.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Maybe that's why the time travellers didn't show? I know I wouldn't knowing what I know now.
