Not in the United States. Here, it’s just called “prison”. And you certainly don’t have to break the law to end up there for life.

And come, certainly, nobody who has been sentenced to death could ever possibly deserve it. Because murder isn’t justice.

the goal is a fair system, and thanks for keeping our eyes on the ball.

that said, this is not only the best outcome this defendant could get-- it's hopeful of future judgements (and jurists) recognizing the systemic failures of Trumpian "justice" in the most effective ways.

Off the top of my head, maybe four or five episodes. Not a lot, but it’s definitely there. Star Trek writers were very good with visual and literary metaphor.
