i use it to open my apps menu, same as it did in windows, as well as a modifier key for desktop-level stuff... same as it did in windows lol

tho, i added one shortcut with it which i think is just neat: meta+Z to go to sleep. it's funny, memorable, easy to access yet hard to press accidentally. tbh i think it should become standard

hopefully this makes ARM-based Linux handhelds more suitable too! that would be awesome

that’s not even a new thing…

my mother had a windows 7 laptop for work, she upgraded it to windows 10 (microsoft did a similar nagging back then) and not only did it become atrociously slow, a bunch of hardware drivers also stopped working, including pretty important stuff like USB

unfortunately linux wouldn’t have been an option cause the software she needed was (and still is) windows only

look at Mastodon and it’s practically what’s happening there. bot farms don’t even bother setting up their own servers, they just go to mastodon.social (by far the largest instance) and bot from there. and because .social refuses to have manual approval for each account, and many instances don’t want to defenerate from where almost everyone is, the problem keeps happening…

it’s hard to have the same reach when you limit yourself to niche platforms tho. like sure, PinkNews could post exclusively to Pixelfed/PeerTube and not have to deal with censorship.

they’d also have to contend themselves with 12 followers… a hard pass when you’re a news org

oh you’re right, it’s gone now. i didn’t even notice

tbh i only remember it working for non-Plasma apps, weirdly enough. stuff like Dolphin or Konsole wouldn’t work with it, but non-Plasma apps (that got decorated with the Plasma titlebar) would support it. maybe that’s why they removed it?

billionaires fund democrats too lmao

the fact that so many people (and presumably you) think "voting for the lesser evil" is the end all be all of political engagement is perhaps one of the bourgeoisie’s greatest victories

can second 8BitDo, their stuff is awesome

for 2D games (or games that are played with a d-pad rather), their Pro line is also very good! i have the Pro 2, and it works fantastic with Linux. idk about the Pro 3 but i can't imagine it would be much different, and i heard the d-pad on that one is even better

finding ways to breach the containment of webviews inside of apps has to be one of my favourite pointless hobbies.

i've noticed lately that there seems to be federation issues with lemmy.world. i don't receive updates from communities or users there, and looking at my profile from lemmy.world, it's missing a few comments that were posted in the last days, when usually it's much much quicker to update.

even when looking at .world communities on here when not logged in, they seem to be stuck in the past! for example, from here the last post from !games@lemmy.world is from 5 days ago, but on .world there are many more recent posts.

does anyone else have issues with them? are we blocking them, or are they blocking us?

does anyone know what would cause this precisely? why would anti-fingerprinting mess with the colors i use to edit an image in the browser?

i'd be tempted to brush this off as the website being malicious and lying to get me to deactivate fingerprinting protection, but the website is fully open-source and what they describe happened to me on Piskel (a pixel art editor, which would constantly mess up my colors in subtle but annoying ways)
