"It is like confessing a murder"- on the implications of telling his friends about his theory. That was an interesting read thanks

[–] anothercatgirl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 19 hours ago

wow this is like actually nicely written, it's easy to scroll and read, it's better than doomscrolling

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 117 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's not even all of them, he also said "I hate a barnacle as no man ever did".

[–] ClassIsOver@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure there have been people who hate barnacles more than Charles Darwin after they've been keelhauled.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 11 points 1 day ago

Yeah well you mainly hate the captain after that, if you survive to hate anything

oh weird, the link keeps getting mangled when I paste it.

Try the link now, removing the space I added to make it valid

the space is still there though?

https://www.darwinproject.ac.uk/letter/?docId=letters%2FDCP-LETT-3272.xml

this works for me?

EDIT: This is bizzare. the forward slash between letters and DCP keeps getting replaced by %2F

[–] Venator@lemmy.nz 1 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

It seems lemmy doesn't like the direct letter url. But you can find it by searching: https://www.darwinproject.ac.uk/search?keyword=DCP-LETT-3272.xml

It seems like they have a bug where they should be doing a url deencode on the document id url parameter, but they aren't

Which Charles Darwin are you? I'm 23 jan 1863 Charles Darwin.

[–] SSETranquility@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

11 March 1958 clockin in. Hate me some variety

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Bold to pick a date 70 years after his death. In that case, I'm 1993 Darwin, rolling in his grave at the launch of the Darwin Awards.

[–] SSETranquility@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

Hahahaha opps the fartographer got me

[–] goldenbug@fedia.io 10 points 1 day ago

I'm 10 of September, 1860

[–] Zombie@feddit.uk 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And yet, you write. Curious.

I have a timed close-book exam today so I am of course 1 Oct 1861

[–] dumbass@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

I'm not happy about it.

[–] bleistift2@sopuli.xyz 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sounds like a regular programmer today.

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 25 points 1 day ago

Actually he sounds like a top-tier programmer today

[–] TomMasz@piefed.social 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm detecting a theme here.

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Generally, he was not a fan of things

[–] banazir@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

He did love eating every new animal he ran across.

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago

"I hate myself, I hate clover, and I hate bees"

I'm going to look for some kitschy artwork at the thrift store and make this into a "Live Laugh Love" style wall decoration.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

how is this not one of our meme picture things in the meme picture library yet?

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago

He has that kind of egg head

[–] aln@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

Didn't he have the most amount of trouble with his hammock? I recall from the Dollop episode on him this dude couldn't get in our out of the damn thing like ever

[–] bleistift2@sopuli.xyz 19 points 1 day ago

Darwin was famously seasick, but also wanted to really look at birds and shit. Bad combination.

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

"So, what didn't he hate?", I hear you ask.

Worms. He loved worms. The man could watch them for hours.

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

Guess his wife was into tiktok challenges

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

And incest! Don't forget incest!

He and Bobby would be good friends.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago

Somebody should have just given him a Snickers.

I am very poorly today.

Poorly what?

Poorly everything.

[–] MutantTailThing@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Fuck bees though.

Dumb bees and their dumb honey.

[–] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 day ago

You leave the bees alone or prepare to catch some hands my good sir and/or madame. Wasps can get fucked tho

[–] ThisSeriesIsFalse@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

It's hip to fuck bees.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 day ago

Well you know what they say, do what you hate!

[–] banazir@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He sounds like he needs to take a cold shower.

[–] Blade9732@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Good News! Hot showers weren't common place with non royalty for another 50 years. Likely his only choice of shower was a cold shower.

[–] banazir@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I was actually making a joke about the hydrotherapy he used to treat his condition. It involved getting doused with cold water. I don't think anyone caught my joke.

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago
