On the subject of Ted Kaczynski and people in the Epstein files, I get an opportunity to revive this old limerick:

Lewinsky and Clinton have shown,
what Kaczynski must surely have known:
That an intern is better
than a bomb in a letter
of the possible ways to be blown.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 21 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Oh, '90s. You were a simpler time.

[–] not_IO@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You must've had a different Lemmy username in the 1800s, because your account history doesn't go back that far.

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (2 children)

We could still make limericks about current-day atrocities if we wanted to.

[–] abigscaryhobo@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Trump and Epstein they knew,

The most terrible things to do,

Defile young kids, for the highest bids,

Then pass the bill on to you.

[–] gnutrino@programming.dev 68 points 2 months ago (5 children)

Presumably a reference to David Gelernter for anyone else wondering.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 40 points 2 months ago (1 children)

In one 2011 email, Gelernter recommended an undergraduate student to Epstein for an editorial position in part because she was a "v[ery] small goodlooking blonde".

Fucking psychopath. Not sorry Ted blew off his jerk-off hand.

[–] its_prolly_fine@sh.itjust.works 32 points 2 months ago (1 children)

telling colleagues that he was "very glad [he] wrote the note" and that Epstein "...was obsessed with girls (like every other unmarried billionaire in Manhattan; in fact, like every other heterosex[ual] male), and if I hadn't said what I did in that letter ten-odd years ago, he would certainly have called me & asked for a lot more aesthetic detail. (This is how men behave.)

His response to the backlash is insane.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 13 points 2 months ago

Yeah, THAT'S normal.

[–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 22 points 2 months ago (1 children)

For those who go down the rabbit hole:

  • Wikipedia still lists him as employed at Yale
  • Yale's faculty page still has him listed
  • He was very recently relieved from teaching duties while Yale reviews the emails that happened after Epstein's conviction
  • He rates last out of 82 computer science professors at Yale
[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I’m wondering why he had a job to begin with. Being against women in the workforce should preclude you from being allowed to teach women who might enter the workforce.

With professors like that, it’s no wonder that there’s a dearth of women in CS.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's not much better once you get into the workforce. Unfortunately. And so much of the misogyny is invisible to men until it's pointed out to them explicitly.

But I agree:

If you believe that members of the opposite sex should not be permitted to be working, you should not be permitted to work outside of occupations which are necessarily restricted by sex.

Similarly, if you don't think think you should have to work with brown people, disabled people, foreign people....

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

The boy who was in charge of my robotics club believed that girls can’t program and refused to teach or help me (I remember that I “looked too confused” to be helped out with enums….) . I remember once, I was playing with some Java code at lunch, and him and the other coders all stopped to mock how shitty a programmer I was because they saw a bunch of squiggly red lines (hadn’t loaded in all the libraries, just was curious what mobile video game coding looked like).

It was so goddamn isolating as a high schooler. Being a weirdo computer geek, but not welcome with the other weirdo computer geeks because of my sex.

[–] xkbx@startrek.website 18 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Thanks. I tried looking at the people the Unabomber killed and I couldn’t find shit

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I was wondering how a bomber could bring someone to justice before the crimes happened

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm going to guess not all these guys suddenly became pedophiles after meeting Epstein.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

it's more "I don't think epstein was active when the unabomber was killing people" so the dead people were visiting the island? Oh , he injured someone that went on to go to epstein island, thus , no time paradox.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I was wondering why his face looked familiar. He was featured on Big Thinkers.

I'll rewatch it later, but the only thing I remember about him was that he learned how to use his other hand as his primary after the mail bomb blew up his dominate one. Probably the only reason he had an episode at all was the bombing.

[–] AethiopeRoot@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago

What a disgusting man

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 66 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (6 children)

He also bombed a campus police officer, multiple passenger planes, two store owners, etc.

There isn't praiseworthy fiber in this man, he needed help and pity.

[–] ImWaitingForRetcons@lemmy.world 51 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It’s less about showing him to be even vaguely moral, and proving that the US government is supremely corrupt and immoral.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The meme, maybe, but the fucking post title says "W for Uncle Ted"

[–] blujan@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's a W when compared to the american government in this one specific instance

He’s really good at maths

[–] jambudz@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

He was American! He was good at math! :p

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Can you blame a guy for spiraling after being MK Ultra'ed?

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Well despite it, I think his bombings still kinda pale in comparison to the ones US pulls.

[–] mike_hunt@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Well, has anyone tried looking these people up in the Epstein files yet?

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

That's why we're here, a dude who got bombed in 1995 turned up in the files a bunch of years later. Given the other people Ted bombed it probably had more to do with working at a Uni than being part of some pedo ring.

In another post, I mentioned that he may have been correct all along, and the people he targeted had it coming, except for the innocent ones. Ted was a bit sloppy on that regard.

I got savagely downvoted.

[–] Redjard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 51 points 2 months ago (4 children)

The people were guilty except for the innocent ones?

[–] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world 29 points 2 months ago

"I aced that test! As long you don't count the answers I got wrong..."

[–] Donkter@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago

I think they mean the targets were guilty but the post office workers and secretaries that got bombed were still innocent.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yep, pretty much. Seems like unassailable logic to me.

[–] Redjard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Do you have a list of innocents and guilties, preferably with some notes as to why for guilty ones? Or maybe a link to your mentioned comment?

[–] Lioffproxy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Weren't they mostly academics? I mean he was messed with, with multiple right? Wasn't his targets about that?

Not that different from all the innocents the US gov has murdered. We literally just watched ICE gun down two citizens in Minnesota and per usual nothing will happen or change.

[–] aaa999@lemmy.world 18 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This is typical of far right dipshits though. 1. vaguely identify an actual observable problem that any fuckup can see 2. be wrong about a bunch of stuff 3. murder

[–] ReverendIrreverence@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Uncle Ted was the polar opposite of a "far right dipshit" though unless I am missing something

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 months ago

That's exactly what he was. He spent half of Industrial Society and Its Future railing against the left and arguing that it was a psychological phenomenon linked to a "need for power".

He liked the environment, that was about the only "left" thing about him.

Yall need to do more research before you jump on a bandwagon.

[–] paranoia@feddit.dk 7 points 2 months ago

Correct all along, aside from suggesting that we need to essentially genocide each other until all states collapse and the population is a small fraction of what it is today.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What proof is there that Ted Kaczynski actually got anyone in the Epstein files?

[–] Redjard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 46 points 2 months ago (1 children)

One case mentioned further up is David Gelernter, who survived with permanent injuries and shows up in the Epstein files to the point of it now ending his career.

This is however well after the attacks, the Unabomber predates the timespan we have significant information about. Given the wiki entry of that David Gelernter, I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up in some analog Epstein documents we don't yet know about.

I checked another random victim and found no info at all at a glance though, so I'm not convinced on the unabomber picking targets based on this, which seems like what some others here are claiming. Could just be a by-chance hit. If you bomb people you dislike I suppose you'll have an increased chance of targetting pedos by intuition.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Interesting. I can't say I'm surprised he got someone who appeared on the list, but it just being by chance tracks

[–] Signtist@bookwyr.me 36 points 2 months ago

Pretty sure that was the joke - a guy randomly trying to kill people did more to punish members of a pedophile ring by complete happenstance than the governmental body whose job it's meant to be to do so.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 8 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Dude was ahead of the curve. I sing his praises here at least once a week.
