blob-no

brace-dark-cowboy No private planes, no helicopters, and probably stay away from flying things in general.

Edit: These replys, chefs-kiss

I guess you don't even need to set us up the bomb in a private plane, they just naturally do that?

[–] D61@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago

Maybe digital systems are harder to mess up, but the old analogue systems for altitude and the horizon could be tinkered with to give incorrect readings.

Mess with the "horizon indicator" and you might slowly fly into the ground, mess with the altimeter and there's a good chance you might crash when trying to land the plane.

do the stats on the relative per-mile safety of driving and flying include the government wanting to kill you?

Image is a screenshot of a Wikipedia entry with the text: "Since the establishment of North Korea, all three of its leaders—Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Un—have been known to use high-security private trains as their preferred method of domestic and international travel. The train is officially called Taeyangho (Korean: 태양호; 'sun'), unofficially called the Moving Fortress and is likened to an Air Force One on rails."

Attention urbanists:

Image is 90s era DPRK propaganda poster with a DPRK soldier, mouth open as if shouting, with a rifle in one hand in the background, the other a clenched fist in the foreground that is smashing bricks. Text at the bottom is in Hangul and reads "펄펄 나는 일당백의 싸움군으로 준비하자!" or "Train harder, so each of us will equal one hundred of our enemies!"

Train harder, so each of us will equal one hundred of our enemies!

Interesting that the name for the train Taeyangho includes 'ho' which I'm assuming is analogous to the Chinese marker for train series 号, as in 和谐号 Harmony (Series) of high speed rail. So taeyangho isn't 'sun', it's 'sun series'. Whether or not there is one or more train in the sun series I am unsure (as in, is there a Taeyang iiho, Sun 2??? How does that numbering work) how do train names worrrrrrk?????

Yep fair. I don't listen to eurobeat but it's very solid, upbeat and memorable music for memes

I can't watch Ethan at all but this comment is gold:

talking about puns with names, here's one: Ethanic Kleinsing

You just know that's gonna get under the skin of the world's thinnest-skinned streamer too.

Mental health matters. It's actually an interesting part of Chris' stream because he goes on to explain why he hates liberals(!!)

He's always been a bit coy about his politics but hearing him stand on business really increased my estimation of him. I thought maybe he'd be a good West Asia guy but that might be the limit of it. Which is fine and all, but I was a little bit hesitant to put too much hope in him. (That probably sounds a bit cynical of me but I'm a big fan of minding your idols, as it were.)

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

Seems like they were run of the mill personal injury lawyers

[–] tocopherol@hexbear.net 38 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

A little more than run-of-the-mill, they've represented victims of several mass-casualty disasters such as the Deepwater Horizon spill, and other high profile cases:

https://www.lawdragon.com/lawyer-limelights/2025-04-08-blowing-away-the-competition-arnold-itkin-turns-twenty

-$8B verdict against Johnson & Johnson

-$2.25B verdict for a Roundup cancer victim

-$860M verdict for victim of fatal crane accident

-$557M verdict against Union Pacific

Also, cited from a reddit comment, apparently they have been engaging in political maneouvers against Republicans: https://www.houstonchronicle.com/opinion/outlook/article/dick-weekley-texans-lawsuit-reform-gop-power-21250759.php

This year, two of Texas’s most prominent Democratic trial lawyers — Kurt Arnold and Jason Itkin — have begun writing six-figure checks to Republican candidates in key primaries. They recently funded their PAC with a $10 million donation that is now being used to influence GOP races. They’ve discovered they don’t need to win general elections to block reform — they only need to shape who gets on the ballot. By posing as allies of the right, they can protect their legal privileges while claiming to defend Texans’ rights.

And for the moment, the tactic appears to be working. Several Republican House members who joined Democrats to weaken a major lawsuit-reform bill in Texas during its 2025 regular legislative session later received a campaign contribution from that same PAC. Arnold & Itkin’s namesake partners have long donated millions to Democrat candidates and causes – including more than $1 million to a George Soros–linked PAC that ran ads calling on voters to “Stop MAGA Republicans.” Yet now they happily fund Republicans in Texas, so long as those Republicans promise not to rein in lawsuit abuse.

I try not to egg on too much conspiratorial thinking, but it is kind of an interesting case here. This was during a winter storm in the area too, which would make people think less of the accident, but according to r/aviation conditions were normal and pilots sounded unsure why they would have crashed. There were no issues for other flights at the airport or in the region.

A private jet linked to the prominent Houston-based personal injury law firm Arnold & Itkin crashed during takeoff at Bangor International Airport in Maine on Sunday, January 26, 2026, killing all six people on board.

The plane crashed and caught fire shortly after attempting to take off in a severe snowstorm and low visibility conditions. Air traffic control audio reportedly indicated the aircraft was upside down shortly after departure. The final destination was reportedly France.

All six people listed on the flight manifest were killed. Initial reports from the FAA were conflicting, mentioning seven deaths and one seriously injured survivor, but local officials later confirmed six fatalities with no survivors transported to the hospital.

The jet was registered to an LLC that shares a Houston address with the law firm Arnold & Itkin. The firm's founders, Kurt Arnold and Jason Itkin, were reportedly not on the aircraft.

Identities of the victims have not been officially released by authorities, but some have been confirmed through family members and sources:

  • Tara Arnold: An attorney at the firm and wife of co-founder Kurt Arnold.

  • Shawna Collins: An event planner.

  • Jacob Hosmer: A Houston-area pilot, confirmed by his father to be the captain of the flight.

The law firm Arnold & Itkin has been linked to anti-ICE and anti-Trump labels primarily due to its political donations and specific legal cases involving undocumented immigrants.

The firm and its founders, Kurt Arnold and Jason Itkin, were major financial backers of the First Tuesday PAC during the 2024 election cycle.

This PAC ran multi-million dollar ad campaigns aimed at "Stopping MAGA Republicans" and encouraging voters to "Vote For Every Democrat".

In 2024 alone, the firm reportedly donated $300,000 to efforts focused on electing Democrats.

The firm is well-known for representing immigrants in high-profile cases. Kurt Arnold’s biography highlights that he secured the largest settlement for an undocumented worker in U.S. history.

Because of their work and their financial opposition to the Trump administration’s immigration policies, critics and certain media outlets labeled them as "top anti-ICE / anti-Trump lawyers" following the news of the crash.

Taking off from Bangor during a severe snowstorm is more like a Stephen King plot than a government one.
