the main complaints i've seen online were that weight loss usage is driving the price up and making it unaffordable for diabetics (clearly an unsolvable problem because healthcare must be an inhumane extractive industry), and fears that hollywood ozempic usage is bringing back the 90s heroin chic shit.

The problem for diabetics goes beyond the pricing of ozempic. The company who makes ozempic is one of the largest producers of insulin in general, and I couldn't get my insulin for three months this year because of how much ozempic they churn out instead of using the resources to make insulin. This happens frequently, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was another shortage coming soon. I was fortunate enough to get some insulin eventually, but it was tight. I have a general hatred for this drug, it feels like a way to cheat yourself into a thinner body while at the same time other people can't get life saving medication, and I find myself frequently hating on people who use it, even though I know it's completely the company's fault.

Cheat is an interesting phrase to use here. Weight loss isn't an atonement for the sin of gluttony. It's a health issue and Ozempic is a potential treatment. What purpose does this judgemental moralizing serve?
No, weight loss isn't a punishment, divine or otherwise. I think it's good if there's easier solutions than having to drag yourself through different methods just to lose a few pounds here and there but never make any progress that makes you happy. But that's not what I was getting at. The problem I have with ozempic is that it's produced with the same resources that insulin is, and in favor of more profit, the company making ozempic had a long-ish shortage on insulin production this year. Ozempic isn't necessary to survive, while insulin very much is. While I don't want to blame people for using it, I find myself doing so in spite of knowing better. I posted to vent my anger at the drug and its producers, but I also wanted to explain that while I know better, I still feel resentful at people for taking ozempic. It's not a logical feeling, and I am very aware of that.
Edit: I saw you edited your comment, so I'd just like to say I agree with the assessment that weight loss isn't supposed to be a punishment for overeating
cheat yourself into a thinner body
That’s weird moralizing about weight loss, but also for people with certain conditions like PCOS or other insulin related disorders it’s the only thing that allows weight loss in the first place.
I know it is. I'm angry about the insulin shortage because of ramped up ozempic production, and while that has nothing to do with people needing help with weight loss drugs, I feel resentful seeing people take it while diabetics who need insulin to survive have to ration their medication.
i had no idea it was made from the same precursor stuff as insulin, jfc that's some unfortunate chemistry
capitalism is the fucking best at inventing scarcity where there should be none, competition and resentment where there could easily be comraderie, none of this needs to be happening

I couldn't agree more comrade. That's why I'm so angry at myself too. I know better, but I still fall for the same tricks like everybody else.
because of how much ozempic they churn out instead of using the resources to make insulin

The stuff is ludicrously easy and cheap to mass produce, but afaik the company is bottlenecking itself by only selling the product in their specialty injector pens.
Meanwhile less scrupulous individuals (ie it's discussed a lot in bodybuilder communities) can buy years worth of it for pennies on the dollar from Chinese medical labs who are the same ones producing it for places like med spas that also are charging hundreds of dollars for it.
Meanwhile diabetics as well as people with other prescriptions for these drugs (ie obstructive sleep apnea, pcos, insulin resistance) get to deal with the jacked up brand prices and their ✨️insurance providers✨️ denying coverage because of said price gouging
On a semi related note I've seen it being used by some people who struggle with alcohol addiction. They're gonna have to up production in that case
what the hell is ozempic even. a panacea?
Ozempic, and all GLP-1 agonists, are appetite suppressants. They slow digestion, which reduces appetite and can help regulate blood sugar for those with diabetes. Alcohol is quite calorie dense, at 7 calories per gram. So in theory, an appetite suppressant can reduce cravings for alcohol.
This is not medical advice and please consult a medical professional/doctor before taking any new medications.
It’s not just an appetite suppressant, it also changes the way insulin is released and processed and slows digestion.
Thats why it’s really helpful for people with PCOS, it makes their body actually use the food you eat, instead of storing fat no matter what even when you’re only eating 1000 calories a day.
Also incredibly helpful for pre-diabetics and people with type 2. Compounded semaglutide is usually an option from providers, and it is typically way cheaper (to the consumer) than the branded stuff (Ozempic, Wegovy, etc.) while being equally as effective. It doesn't come in fancy plastic auto-injectors with a 10,000% markup, though, so pharma ghouls don't tend to push it as hard.
How does Marmite compare?
The high amount of protein (31g per 100g) and deep unami flavour could help with keeping one's appetite under control.
I've found Marmite toast to be a great hangover and nausea cure back when I used to drink.
protein (31g per 100g)
Holy shit, that's a lot of protein.
Nah its because the mechanism that its originally been used for seems to be surprisingly effective for several other impulse driven decisions it seems.
White society is so neurotic with matters involving fat. It's damn near biblical how weird it is
Person who is labelled as such is labelled lazy, stupid, lack impulse control. A lot of ones I know in my life work long grueling hours. Lazy my ass. And even if they were "lazy" this means they should be condemned to suffer?
What do people gain from this suffering?
The people? Not very much.

Porky? Another industry that turns proletarian bodies into dust and yachts.
Just based on vibes theres probably a gendered element to this, in the public's eye most celebs roiding up are men while most visible ozempic users are women
As society at large is hyper-optimized to constantly measure the size of women, especially celebrity women, we are simply (more) ignorant to when a man's body changes shape. We also categorize eating disorders and the bodyshapes that are attached to it as feminine, so Ozempic continues to reinforce that by marketing itself to women and the users we will notice the most are going to be women.
I think there's also some element of how men are seen to be "working" for their bodies even when roiding up, whereas GLP inhibitors are seen as "instant", reinforcing misogynist ideology that suggests men work for their goals and women want instant gratification.
I think this too. Plus the body standards being gendered. Taylor swift Beyonce were called fat at one point.
Diet culture, like many discourses weaponized more frequently against women, relies strongly on double binds. Constantly having to triangulate conflicting, contradictory demands is at the core of the feminine experience. You are supposed to be thin, but you must not be too thin or you will be shamed for the anorexia you have previously been shamed into. You must lose "excess" weight, but only in sanctioned ways that broadcast how virtuous you are, how much you have mastered disciplining yourself. This both means that measures such as ozempic, liposuction, gastric bands etc. will be called out as "cheating" at your weight loss regimen, and that having an acceptable weight is ultimately impossible.
Now, steroid usage will also be seen as cheating, as fitness is also an area were people are supposed to demonstrate discipline, capability to perform and other qualities desired under our social darwinist, eugenics-obsessed system. But standards for that are much more relaxed, it is a lot easier to get away with false claims of being "all natural" in bodybuilding.
Facts. I'm wondering if many of em feel the same about vaccines or so. Wtf is the right way? I guess taking the bus should be panned as well since you're not travelling the right way. You need to go through purgatory. I'll say the same thing to them as I say about the work illegal immigrants do, in that situation most of em will not have the minerals for it.
And there are still so many in denial about how many use steroids. Ffs many people still bought that the rock or people like simeon panda were natty
Still in denial that for a looooot of athletes their doping methods are ahead of testing and they don't get caught. Or am I supposed to believe pogacar maintains an average speed of 42 km/h over a course well over 200km and multiple stages in tour de france naturally?
I think it’s a function of people going off of superficial appearance rather than what is actually healthy or morally okay. It takes a LOT of excess muscle mass for men to start looking weird. Most male celebrities don’t approach the bloated body builder levels of weirdness.
But weight loss is different. Losing weight quickly can make you look sickly, even if you aren’t. This is especially true if you are older or weren’t overweight to begin with.
Yeah even the levels they get to are
The cuts are no joke. That shirtless scene hugh jackman did the guy was dehydrated as hell. In logan he took that dehydration to extremes. It may seem healthy when they're shredded or diced but they don't stay like that very long.
these freaks hate fat people so much that they also hate them for "cheating" at weight loss
This could come down to a misunderstanding how those “weight jabs” work, one that’s maybe intentionally pushed by advertisments.
Jabs alone won’t do it, you will need to change your lifestyle (sleep, stress, environmental stressors…), eating habits (also because solid food will linger in your digestive tract way longer), and still work out: On a jab-regime alone you will be losing not only fat but also muscles that’ll need extra effort to be retained. So, you need to put attention and effort into the things you would for bodybuilding as well.
stereotypes to illustrate use-cases
That overweight dude who has a history of visiting the gym but needs a little extra to move sooner to rowing and endurance sports: Prime candidate. That elderly women who goes swimming anyway and is disciplined with her food intake, would take protein through whey or soy pulver (battle-hardened ex-slimfast crowd): Can do.
An old person who claims golfing (or motor“sports”) as his sport, refuses even mild reha on its own or tries to make it someone else’s task, not disciplined in any way, will remain gorging on sugars and processed food: He’ll become apparently thinner but increasingly weaker and frailer.
I think, hypothetically, there's a contrast between the two: just taking steroids won't make your muscles inflate, you have to work out at least a little to actually get gains, which is where the steroids come in you can recover and exercise more using steroids. Meanwhile, ozempic sounds as close to a miracle drug as can be: you just take an injection and start losing weight (maybe more than 1 I'm not that familiar with the treatment plan) so I think I agree most with the user who suggests its due to Christianity, because the protestant work ethic that infests western culture results in people taking the idea of "working for something" more generously than "getting something for free"
Still gotta put the diet work in with ozempic. And exercise is also advised to maintain long term weight loss to not lose as much muscle otherwise which would be undesirable.
And tbh.... I'm gonna sound controversial but PEDs and steroids kinda are miracle drugs tbh. Its just that they can have really bad side effects. But the shit you see with em especially when they're hyper responders is nuts. I've seen people come back from injuries in a short time on em. Recovering from working out 3 to 4 times a day and it not being diminishing returns is crazy. The numbers powerlifters are hitting nowadays is loco. Seeing athletes still do impressive things while injured as well....idk like in terms of bodybuilding and I guess some strength sports for instance if you aren't a hyper responder you aren't gonna be a ronnie coleman but for other performance benefits maaaaaan I don't maaaaan if you see this shit especially with a proper regime
Still gotta put the diet work in with ozempic.
Honestly, not always. In over a year on it I've never really had to focus on my diet and I've lost 100 pounds. I just feel "normal".
How's everyone on steroids like do they go to their doctor and say SIR, I say SIR, I need to get jacked TODAY, and they give them the gear

I was given a steroid shot once for a shoulder injury I had. Prior to the shot, I had been in chronic pain for months and had been consulting a surgeon for a possible operation to fix the problem. I could barely lift my arm above my head, and even pushing a car door open was painful.
After the doc gave me the shot the relief was almost immediate. It was like I had never been injured at all. I had never considered using PEDs for working out before then, but holy shit did it feel amazing. I remember wondering why the doctor warned me not to come asking for another shot if I ever got injured again ("it can't be that good, why would he be warning me about this?"), but I completely understood afterwards, it was genuinely like a miracle drug.
Prednisone was like a surprise for me. Never felt anything like it. If it wasn't for the side effects I would be taking it more often tbh.
Steroids aren't just a recovery thing, they actually make more muscle mass, hence the anabolic
This is another manifestation of KKKri$$tianity
Mandem perceive it as a sin and want people to be "punished" for it. Its always cited when they say "my tax payer money goes into it". Now that there is something that aids this theyre..... Somehow upset
Like some sick twisted karmic scale?
In KKKri$$tianity, especially the puritan strain of KKKri$$tianity which is foundational to amerikkkan so-called "culture," suffering, deprivation, and persecution are holy. The dialectic between this and the fact that amerikkkan kkkrakkkers are perhaps the least suffering, deprived, and persecuted group of all time leads to a profound level of derangement.
Selective as hell too. Trump has built probably the biggest deficit in US history by a single sitting president and filed for bankruptcy. He isn't seen as a corrupt failure like those African states. Man married multiple or so times. Not seen as a failure there. Assaulted several women. Nope not a moral fail. Indicted multiple times nope. Likely a massive pedo, not a failure. He can never fail hard enough on every one of the moral failings because he'll be embraced by amerikkka still
To the amerikkkan KKKri$$tian, all that just goes to show how persecuted, and therefore holy, he is
This is hilarious to me. Mandem talking about apologizing for being white while looting the fuck outta countries and using identity and moralism of being "democracy" as a means to justify atrocities and genocides. Somehow our eyes are lying to us
I HATE KKKALVINI$M
Reason I bring up roids for example is because I've seen people in health get ragged on because of appearance but for example Triple H is on the council for physical fitness and health vice chair and that's ok. Guy came from a profession where people at one time were lucky to reach 50 but is perceived to be the picture of health because abs. Trump's white house cook is roided to the gills and says he only sleeps a few hours. I mean the whole notion that extreme bodybuilding is regarded as "fitness" while in the same breath admonishing others is
perceived to be the picture of health because abs
so real. like, no joke, being cut is 100% conflated with leadership abilities in a lot of circles. like, so long as you're not running around like a rabid animal or making a complete mess of your personal life, so many people yield their trust and respect to people for it.
it's so pervasive, it's like a legal form of mind control. i joke about focusing hard on getting down to like 10-12% body fat so i can start a cult and/or run for office.
