Gambling loops put into most mobile games, especially when targeting children.

The people with high "personal" ambition that ruin this world for the rest of us. I am sure at least one of them was sitting at the table on that first thanksgiving thinking about how to exploit the Native Americans.

Turkey is fucking DRY and flavorless.

[–] rekabis@lemmy.ca 1 points 7 minutes ago

While it is incredibly difficult to keep the breast meat properly hydrated (even I find the best turkeys seem dry with their white meat), another commenter is absolutely correct - a properly done turkey will have absolutely succulent and tasty brown meat. To the point where adding any garnish or gravy is almost an insult.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

You've been eating incorrectly cooked turkey.

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 13 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

That reality is so incredibly fucked up on a fundamental, physical level.

You're telling me that if I do nothing, my room will get messy, my house will decay, my machines will break down. But somehow matter magically organizes itself into life?

Fuck all the way off.

[–] rekabis@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 minute ago* (last edited 22 seconds ago)

But somehow matter magically organizes itself into life?

There is a recent, decently-supported hypothesis that the emergence of life is a byproduct of entropy, and the need for a system as a whole to almost “self-process” itself from a state of high order to one of lower order. So life is an emergent “engine” that allows entropy to function more efficiently. It is a more efficient path than non-life.

Downside is that life - as we understand it - is only possible under narrow environmental conditions, and complex life even more so. So while “life” may exist throughout the universe in measured single-celled doses, complex life - especially sapient life - may be distressingly rare or even wholly absent except for us.

Which is a real kick in the nuts when you examine the scientific evidence of how fast we are hurtling towards our own extinction.

Entropy is some god damned bullshit.

I had no idea how bad entropy was until I was an adult. I can't be happy just relaxing because of the knowledge that everything around me is fucking falling apart and I have to spend every waking hour fighting the entropy around me. You can't just live in a house or condo or apartment, it's constantly crumbling.

That new wicked movie. It’s so bad.

Every single person now thinks they're smarter than everyone else. No matter what their political leanings are, they're all smarter than everyone else. Smarter than:

  • Doctors
  • Scientists
  • Engineers
  • Economists

It's absolutely ridiculous and it started sometime around the 90s around when Ross Perot first ran for president and it just got worse with social media.

That's the real problem right now. Everyone thinks they know more than people who spent decades studying and becoming experts in their field.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 hours ago

To be fair, there are a lot of bullshit economists and Doctors.

[–] orioler25@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

"Now." Ironic.

[–] unmagical@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

To be fair a lot of people with PHDs are dumb as shit. Maybe not in their field, but in every single other aspect of life. That's part of why arguments from authority should be avoided--the authority may be expert of their field, but their area of focus is likely extremely narrow.

[–] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

Absolutely. That's still kinda the point.

You 100% should not trust:

  • An epidemiologist's opinion on inflation
  • A civil engineer's opinion on viral spread
  • An economist's opinion on traffic flow

They're just as guilty of this bullshit as everyone else.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 0 points 1 hour ago

An epidemiologist’s opinion on inflation

I agree with your overall premise, but this is a bad example since capitalism is a disease

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 22 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I hate that most people's ideas of success is to earn lots of money and buy expensive things, rather than help the community.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (2 children)

i mean, have you tried either?

helping your community is a task of endless need and criticism that opens you up to personal liability and attack. like i have been verbally assaulted and threatened by people for helping my community. i've never encounter that at my place of employment.

earning lots of money and buying shit is way more fun and easy. when i stay at a hotel the hotel staff don't threaten to beat the shit out of me.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 10 points 6 hours ago

Exceptionalism.

The kind that says “I’m special, but you aren’t”

The kind that lets billionaires exist and fuck with national politics and laws. The kind that lets rich people or corporations off of crimes with little or no punishment. The kind that lets a religious person use their religion to be shitty in any way, as a shield or a cudgel. The kind that lets someone festoon their pickup with LED lights and a squat so you’re blinded at night when they’re coming at you or tailgating you.

All of them think they’re special and the rules don’t apply, they don’t care how it affects those around them - or others are to be exploited.

[–] Zier@fedia.io 4 points 5 hours ago

Stupid People. Not people who are naive, they can be educated. But actual stupid people. They will kill us all.

[–] Fontasia@feddit.nl 5 points 6 hours ago

The fact that if you die tomorrow it will actually impact very few people and you aren't doing shit to change that

[–] Dicska@lemmy.world 6 points 7 hours ago

Selfishness. It's the root cause of many things that plague the world: people putting themselves/their immediate circle before others, lack of empathy, greed, xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny, racism, fascism, or pricks listening to stuff through their phone's speaker in public.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 8 points 7 hours ago

Depression

What the fuck

What the actual fuck

What the actual fucking fuck is this stupid ass bullshit

It's outrageous! It's unfair!

So you're telling me, I could just live a normal life, but a part of my brain is getting rebellious and won't cooperate, spreading negativity propaganda to the rest of my brain?

What. The. Fuck?!?

[–] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

These bodies are complete shit. Evolution consistently results in biological forms that barely work. That's what it does, it produces a bare minimum viable product, so that's what we are.

This jumble of nerves and synapses and hormones and gut bacteria that we call a mind is a huge fucking tangled mess. Truthfully, it's tragic that we have to live in these bargain bin bodies that break down constantly and often didn't work right from the start.

I don't have an uplifting end to this rant.

We're all in it together?

[–] TriangleSpecialist@lemmy.world 10 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

It'd be quicker for me to list what I don't hate these days, but I guess the main stuff that makes me tilt is:

Capitalism, billionaires, billionaires' bootlickers, ~~conservatives~~ fascists, state surveillance, bloated anti-user and anti-freedom (i.e. modern) software, anti-intellectualism, being in a "post-truth" era, AI slopaganda, and the relatively general apathy to all of that and lack of solidarity amongst us working people (at least where I live).

Everything, in general.

If I could give the cosmos a good wallop I would, horribly monstrous thing that it is.
