The south doesn't deserve to vote.

Suspend their statehood and keep them as permanent territories with zero voting representatives.

You lease out one of them...

I mean you'll get lynched by Lemmy for doing this, but that's how you realistically gonna make money from it.

I thought you were a nurse, you tell me

(Also wtf is that wording: "make a person R-word in animals"

🤔)

Philly houses are like $100K back in the early 2010s

taxes were around $2000 ish per year...

So we moved from NYC and used to be renters... but now we own the house... (well I don't have a share, its technically my parents for the time being)

So you'd think: well great! no rent anymore! perfect? Right? RIGHT?

fast forward...

Kids were more racist in school and I got bullied a lot. (I'm ethnic Chinese)

😭

I hate Philly, I rather be in NYC. 🫠

So yes, home ownership and all... but at what cost?

Ghetto ass place :/

Caused me so much anxiety and self esteem issues and probably one of the major factors into my depression.

YSK: If you are an American Citizen or US Tax Resident, your first 200 pounds of fat is legally exempt and therefore does not count for BMI Purposes. Nutritionists hate this one simple trick!

My parents are from China... 🙃

They get especially mad when I say "negative" things the closer it gets to lunar new year (two weeks ago?)

Aparantly they get so worried about my therapy/psychaitry appointment which was also about 2 weeks ago because its bad luck or some shit...

Sure mom, news years is exactly what I need to "cleanse my spirit of evil" because obviously depression does not exist its its evil spirits latching on to me and I need some necklace with jade in it to "repel evil spirits"

🤦‍♂️

Lunar Hologram Theory: The most popular term. It suggests the Moon is a projection onto the “firmament” or a cloaking device used by advanced civilizations or governments.

So... The Orville and the episode where they planted a fake star to trick a planet that believed in astrology signs to release their crewmate... lmfao

The Hollow Moon / Spaceship Moon: While these versions allow for a physical object, they argue the Moon is an artificial structure (essentially a giant satellite or base) rather than a natural celestial body.

Literally the Moonfall movie 🤣

Wait, y'all believe in the moon?

In the end, are you any less frugal than your parents?

I mean they make so much money with their investments that its kinda silly to be so cheapskate on these things.

Literally had like text messages that she wants to present in a civil lawsuit and the phone was so laggy and it looks like it's about to fail at any time... and still refused to buy a new phone afterwards (so you wont have a random malfunction and lose your evidence when you need it the most)

Literally refused to buy a dash cam until I keep insisting... like literally for their own good, "what if something happens?" I asked them, then they get mad for suggesting the idea that a car accident... something that happens all the time... could happen and they need a dash cam for evidence... I mean they literally got lightly rear-ended before... and it totaled the car... they didn't have a dash cam back then, but luckily insurance automatically sided against the other side because its a rear-end collision.

Literally so frugal that they don't wanna spend money on CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS... like we didn't have that for like nearly a decade of living in the house... (eventually got them)

It's not that they can't afford it. Its they feel like everything is a waste.

Also the entire basement is filled with random stuff... like other people's abandoned items... and we never even use it... hoarding so much shit lol...

This comment is clearly biased

User Display Name is "VeryFrugal", of course you're siding with the frugal parents

SURPRISE REFUNDS 😏

Example:

My parents are frugal af and refuse to get a new phone charger and tries to "fix it". I think my mom mentioned it caught on fire (or sparks) once or something like that...

So I was like: "Just get a new one for fucks sakes ... Oh I mean I guess you can keep using it... the house is insured, fire is included in the policy, so I guess it's fine."

Then my mom gets mad because it's "bad luck" to say stuff like this... as if somehow making this joke is gonna have a cause-effect to the house catching on fire... 🤔

Like are they afraid of angering the Gods? Spirits? Wut lmao?

🤦‍♂️

I have this scene in my head that goes something like this:

Mom: "Good night, my lovely son"

30 minutes later

Mom quietly enters my room

Pets me on my head for a good few seconds

Suddenly pulls out a knife and stabs me

I struggle to say with my last breath: "Mooommmm... why? 🥺"

Does anyone else have a brain that just think weird shit like this?

I still remember... an apartment I lived in till the age of 8... like I could draw a map of the interior...

I still kinda remember some of the places of my relatives that I've been to frequently, although those memories are a little bit more blurry.

I remember some of the schools I've been to... like the general vibe of it, idk if I could actually draw a map... more of a notebook doodle maybe

I used to draw maps of my neighborhood when I was in brooklyn... yeah so... I wasn't allowed much computer time and didn't have a phone... and my brain kinda turned my attention to the surroundings and I just get so bored and draw a map of the neighborhood lol.

🤔

So last time they asked how is my relationship with my parents when my mom was in the room... 🤦‍♂️ how was I supposed to honestly answer that lmfao...

So I told mom to leave...

So today she told me she want to be in the room with me from now on...

Because shes "worries" they will try to "trick" me into talking more which then "they would use as an excuse to overprescribe" dosage that is too high... or whatever

And she uses dad and the blood pressure thing as an example like she says: "everything was fine until [dad] mentioned 'high blood pressure' to the doctir and now the doctor is prescribing so much 'unnecessary' medications"

Also she's kinda into Traditional Chinese Medicine...

Funny thing is the next appointment is virtual... so I guess I'm just gonna "forget" to remind her about it lol.

So yeah... that's the story of my life

Like... before y'all yell "narcissist"... I do genuinely think there is a part of her that "cares" about me... but I feel like its a kinda twisted and weird way of "love"...

Like it comes with control, "mother knows it all" type of shit

I think I'm starting to understand the term "emeshment"...

Now I think I understand why China has a bunch of depressed people that are unemployed/don't really feel motivated in life... (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tang_ping)

I doubt most people in China even seeks treatment for depression...

Why was I born into this culture? 😭

I'm so lucky to have emigrated... cuz How do young depressed people in China even deal with this shit? I mean with this shame culture... 🤔

(anyways feel free to ignore, just need a place to sort of vent)

Anecdote: My mom, who came to the US as an adult, talk kinda weird... like the "vibe" feels so "off"

Like just some tool where I select all the directories then it runs a checksum against everything then tell me which files match.

Hey from Philly

Outside center city, in a I guess "suburb"...

Like my neighborhood is like 20% white, 20% black, 20% Asian, 30% hispanic, rest is mixed or "other". Seems kinda diverse

How about your area?
