Sometimes I wonder if I'm still not holding onto some reactionary views I never purged from my head, but me having a full blown totenkopf tattoo and having been a blackwater merc for 18 years really pales in comparison.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm still not holding onto some reactionary views...

In all seriousness - we all can improve here or there. But I also do not have a full blown totenkopf tattoo and I wasn't a blackwater merc for 18 years.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 47 points 1 month ago (4 children)

We have some people here who were former far right. They aren't even in the same league as this dude. None of them are proud of it and none of them would ever remotely defend tours in iraq, afghanistan or working for a dark merc company doing america's dirty work. It's fucking absurd how bad this guy is.

[–] CrookedSerpent@hexbear.net 32 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I was a "far right" teenager, but the worst thing I did was make some edgy posts making fun of liberals. I would surely never do that again that was really terrible of me... 😢

I do have a few potentially problematic Norse runes tattooed on my ass from that one time I got blackout drunk in Oslo.

However, I wasn't a Blackwater merc for 18 years.

This saga is maddening. This guy HAS to be an op, there's no other explanation for why the Dems are all circling the wagons to defend him like this. I mean compare it to how much pearl clutching we got from the very same Dems over Mamdani's statements on Palestine.

I mean even if nobody in a dark room said "let's run this guy to discredit progressives", the actions of the Dems in this case compared to others reveal just how truly evil the Democratic party is.

[–] MolotovHalfEmpty@hexbear.net 29 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

There's definitely some weird astroturfing of this going on too. I don't post about American politics on Twitter, but this stuff crept into my timeline despite never posting or searching for info about it. And almost every post was some variation of...

'I'm a totally legit communist person of colour & if you care about this guy's nazi tattoo then you're doing Peter Thiel's work for him'

...or...

'This is definitely a hit job by Palantir & the NSA as how could they have possibly found social media posts by him. If you don't embrace the Nazi Merc the real fascists win!'

I don't doubt that somewhere in this shitflinging that creepy data analysis tools were used and that posting online is basically opting into a panopticon that will be used against you in the future if it needs to be, but acting like this is the unearthing of some teenager's porn views decades later, instead of a guy who still has Nazi tattoos and is running partly on the fact he was a volunteer for WarCrimes Inc until recently, is unhinged.

[–] Clippy@hexbear.net 54 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (3 children)

i dunno guys, he did say ACAB, that he was a communist and, between serving a few tours in the US Marines, Blackwater and with this development about a SS tattoo on his chest?

he kind of sounds like a genuine centrist.

[–] somename@hexbear.net 22 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I’m honestly super curious what his definition of “communism” is

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Communism is when you kill 9 million people

Don't support blackwater mercs. Don't double down when they show off their nazi tattoo.

I'm guessing he calls the military socialist and thinks communism is when the government does stuff.

Its so unfair that people judge me by my words and deeds

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 19 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I rarely spend any time at all at Reddit. But his take really makes me laugh because when I used to post there regularly - if politics or the news were involved - I'd often go into people's histories and look around. It's something you can't do in real life. If you overhear somebody in public who seems like a nasty piece of work - you can't go backwards back hours or days to hear what they said and to check if you're right. But you certainly can go backwards on social media.

And it can be so funny when you quote people back to themselves. They can get so mad when you show others that yeap, this person is a turd. See? This is what they wrote just yesterday.

[–] CliffordBigRedDog@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They recently added the ability to hide your post history and its made reddit way less fun

This whole saga has got me marveling at the shift into the "post through it" era.

Al Franken, a sitting US senator, was accused of being a bit of a creep (to be clear, the shit he was accused of is unacceptable behavior, but I think most people would assume that pretty much every male senator/congressman does or has done worse), then those allegations panned out and were corroborated by others, and the resulting outrage lead to his resignation all within the span of about two months. He resigned in 2018. That was still normal back then, if you had a major scandal you were pretty much done for. Sure the shift was occurring to always posting through it but even Republicans couldn't get away with that consistently yet. A very popular US senator was led out behind the shed by top party officials and put down because of sexual misconduct allegations, meanwhile less than a decade later some guy who is just planning to run for something is caught with Nazi iconography etched onto his body and steadfastly defending others with Nazi tattoos is being defended to the hilt by those same party officials. Not only is he instinctively trying to post through it, but the rest of the Democratic apparatus is instinctively trying to post through it with him. Imagine if they could do productive things at such a breakneck pace.

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 35 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Politicos collectively asked themselves “what if we didn’t force our nazis and sex pests to resign after the big scandal^TM^?”, realized the answer was “nothing”, and gave us the world we live in now

The metoo movement led to increased scrutiny of the al franken case. When Biden had a ton of accusations the party openly abandoned metoo during the march 2020 shenanigans

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 1 month ago

metoo was another movement they "sucked" dry and then threw out. BLM, Occupy Wallstreet, the Al Gore environmentalist moment and now increasingly the pro-palestine movement.

[–] dragongloss@hexbear.net 47 points 1 month ago (4 children)

The amount of liberals I've seen defending this guy today saying "we all make mistakes" is a bit mind-boggling. They really do not care if you're Nazi, as long as you are THEIR Nazi. They were in an uproar about Pete Hegseth's crusaders tattoos, the totenkopf concentration camp nazi tattoo is worse, it's definitely worse, both are bad, but holy shit liberals do not give a fuck. Can't wait for 2026 when the next democrat has a swastika on his forehead and liberals will tell you gotta vote for him.

cringe

[–] kleeon@hexbear.net 41 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I mean, whom amongst us hasn't gotten a nazi tattoo and then travelled overseas multiple times to murder non-white people? Give the guy a break

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 24 points 1 month ago

Liberals have waxed poetic about the most murderous and genocidal empire in history since the USA was a thing, and the British Empire before it turned into a corncob.

They have always loved genocide.

I'm actually starting to think this guy might literally be an op to discredit "progressives" and we're going to need a new, much stronger version of fell-for-it-again-award for the "progressives" who fall for it by supporting him.

But more likely "progressives" in Amerikkka are actually this bad and intelligence agencies don't need to run ops to turn them into nazi defenders for the small possibility of social democratic reform.

[–] PorkrollPosadist@hexbear.net 36 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I think it is long past time to write an epitaph for the "Progressive Movement." "Long arc of history" libs, epitomized by the Congressional Progressive Caucus. There is no need for the intelligence agencies to run ops when these people gladly elect billionaires, fighter pilots and intelligence agents in an effort to out-do the chuds demonstrating loyalty to the empire as an electoral strategy.

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

i think when people discuss oldish-school “progressivism” in the future, they will consider the proud Iraq veteran with a giant Nazi tattoo calling himself a progressive as the point at which the movement was definitely 1000% dead

Personally, I think it’s more accurate to say Graham Platner dug up progressivism’s dessicated corpse and is puppeteering it around with sickening glee

[–] somename@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

I don’t even think he’s an op. I think America just makes guys Like That naturally at this point.

does this guy have a nazi tattoo or did he defend people with nazi tattoos or both? i havent been following along.

also what a reddit-brained response. the whole "you're not allowed to look at my post history" is a reddit thing because everyone on there is a reply guy in nsfw subs posting the grossest shit you can or even cant imagine.

[–] Clippy@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago

does this guy have a nazi tattoo or did he defend people with nazi tattoos or both? i havent been following along.

im pretty sure both.

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago

Defending people with Nazi tattoos is a cherished liberal tradition, so that’s a given, but yes in this instance he also has one himself

[–] Doubledee@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago

Both, is my understanding.

[–] WideningGyro@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Just to add context, he claims his totenkopf and the "bolts" (SS insignia) that his fellow marines/soldier boys had were just gotten as a show of team spirit and that it's clearly preposterous to suggest that soldiers in the US army would be nazis.

Fuckin wild

How can you get out of the shower every day and see that tattoo and do nothing? I never trusted a blackwater merc but shit. The state of the so-called left in this hell society is depressing. kind-vladimir-ilyich xi-plzstairs

Starting to really sour on the "second chance" "rehabilitative justice" shit. It's increasingly being used as a cudgel against socialist politics. It's not even an actual fucking aspect of historical socialism to believe in it necessarily and social fascists use it as a gotcha against us for not wanting some evil dipshit associated with our movement.

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 36 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I wasn’t aware that “rehabilitative justice” meant voting for the proud Iraq war criminal with a giant nazi tattoo on his chest playing dumb about its obvious meaning. Guess I just don’t understand radlib theory

[–] PaulSmackage@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

My opinion on troops that realize that everything they've done wrong at a moral level has always been "good, keep your head down and shut the fuck up".

Hilarious (agony-shivering) that the BlueSkkky libs in the replies seem to be having a better response to this than some "progressives".

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago

At place like Reddit - political terminology is thoroughly broken. But Bluesky takes the cake when it comes to words relating to politics. Because of the site's nuclear blocking/muting - people say crazy stuff and will silence anybody who points out that they are nearly speaking gibberish. So they just keep saying it.

  • A "leftist" could be what we would call a typical lib who says things like "Hostile architecture is horrible!" but will never vote to change that.

  • A "progressive" is probably a lib.

  • Anybody who loudly proclaims they are a liberal is likely to the right of Schumer.

  • I use a labeler service so if somebody follows a pundit like Jonathan Chait - I assume the Bluesky person is effectively a republican no matter what nonsense descriptors are in their bio.

And next year - many of them will say people have gotta vote for the ex-CIA ghoul or ex-military ghoul or centrist ghoul because "democracy is on the line."
