i'm gonna play the devil's advocate here and say that they're genuinely trying to confirm if the guy is actually the shooter. they already fucked up twice so it makes sense that they'd wait before making the name public. although i don't doubt that if he's got non-left ties then they'd be conveniently forgotten like with the trump shooter.
The funny thing is the second "attempted" shooter (who didn't even shoot as far as I remember) was a lib! He's super pro-Ukrainian and pissed that Trump rhetorically wasn't supporting them. Something like that. I don't remember all the shit.

They didn't release it because they also knew it would be disastrous if it was a groyper and he got away with it, so they decided to withhold the information from public release and find someone who looked close enough.
If they didn't have his identity by yesterday, then they would've come to the same conclusion. They couldn't let it go unpunished so it was time to find some random person who looks close enough (bonus points if it isn't a right winger).
