Please note that NSFW/NSFL videos must be labeled as such or they will be deleted

Edit: also keep in mind that initial information in these situations can often be inaccurate. Trusted outlets have conflicting reports about whether a suspect has been detained.

Edit 2: the campus has officially stated they release the initial subject. Donald Trump has stated Charlie Kirk is dead.

My water heater started leaking over the weekend. It was only seven years old, but I suppose since the warranty was six years, I shouldn't complain? Anyway, I installed my new water heater today, so I can shower again. This one has a 12-year warranty, it might out live me.

I just took a shower, I feel great. I'll be going for a walk around sunset. It's been a good day.

You got to admit if you didn't want to get shot, visiting a US school was a bad idea.

He was sitting at what he calls the "prove me wrong" table, answering questions about gun violence.

I think someone managed it.

Former President Barack Obama stressed that "this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy."

With all due respect sir, if our democracy were functioning for all of the people instead of just for the rich, people wouldn’t feel the need to vote with the ammo box.

Trump ordered flags at half mast until Sunday. So this piece of shit got what he quite literally asked for and it’s a national tragedy, but innocent children killed in schools on a weekly basis get “nothing we can do about it, thoughts an prayers 🤷‍♂️.” Fucking clownshow.

[–] lennybird@lemmy.world 40 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Did Trump order flags half mast when that shooter targeted Democratic politicians in Minnesota?

Release the fucking Epstein files.

"I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights" - Charlie Kirk, 2023

My non-mod opinion on this:

Trump is posting Kirk is dead.

Not going to celebrate, just noting:

"I can't stand the word 'empathy', I think it's a made up New Age term." - Charlie Kirk

Can we all appreciate the irony that Charlie Kirk was shot debating about gun violence?

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 30 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

I saw this comment and strongly agreed

Charlie Kirk built his brand on division, outrage, and fear, especially around guns, race, gender, and “culture war” politics. He’s spent years telling his audience that mass shootings are just the “cost of liberty,” that gun deaths are “worth it,” and that armed citizens are the solution, not the problem.

But today, that rhetoric came full circle.

No one deserves violence, not children in schools, not worshipers in churches, not innocent people in public spaces, and not even those who have spent years justifying it.

But we can’t ignore the boomerang effect of spreading hate, radicalizing followers, and shrugging off preventable deaths as a political tradeoff. When you pour gasoline on the fire of American extremism, it eventually burns everything, including those who lit the match.

Kirk once said gun violence is “part of liberty.” Today, he’s living the consequences of the world he helped shape.

Words matter. Hate has consequences. And the truth is, you can only normalize violence for so long before it finds its way back to you.

Trump ally Charlie Kirk was shot at an event in Utah on Wednesday, a source familiar with the matter says.

The extent of Kirk’s injuries were not immediately clear.

trump asked for prayers. They’re going full Christian nationalist with their responses.

Kristi Noem: The secretary of Department of Homeland Security said, “Byron and I are lifting up Charlie, Erika, and their family in our prayers right now.”

Pete Hegseth: “An incredible Christian, American, and human being. May the healing hand of Jesus Christ be upon him,” the secretary of the Department of Defense said in a post on X.

Mike Johnson: The House Speaker asked to pray “for our good friend, Charlie Kirk,” in a post on social media.

Dan Bongino: The deputy FBI director said, “I don’t have the words. God help Charlie and his family.”

Nazis are so goddamn weird.

Audience member: “Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?”

Kirk: “Too many.”

The same audience member went on say the number is five, and proceeded to ask if Kirk knows how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years.

Kirk: “Counting or not counting gang violence?”

Seconds later, the sound of a pop is heard and the crowd screams as Kirk gets shot and recoils in his seat.

Remember: The vast majority of mass attacks in the US have no connection to transgender people. From January 2013 to the present, of the more than 5,700 mass shootings in America (defined as four or more victims shot and killed), five shooters were confirmed as transgender, said Mark Bryant, founding executive director of the Gun Violence Archive.

Okay. Let me try to make a comment here that won't get obliterated as it's going to be real, REAL hard to dance within the lines on this.

  1. Hokay... I obviously do not condone violence of any kind. But... literally no one can be surprised by this happening. Certainly not them. They've been pushing extremely violent rhetoric for years and Charlie Kirk is not exactly a subtle small face in all of that.

  2. Astounding accuracy. I mean it wasn't like Kirk was moving around a whole lot in the situation but still.

  3. Huge crowd, or at least for what I would expect, but I'm surprised no one saw something.

  4. Angle of attack is kind of surprising as well. Kirk was sat fairly low down with a covering over the top. Relatively shallow angle from what I could see in order to be able to hit him. Shot seems to have come from his right.

  5. His right is exposed overall but does anyone know what's actually to the left there?

  6. And lastly, I am wondering how this is going to impact Nazis like Kirk in general. Are they going to ramp it up or step it down? Also wonder how long before people start saying it was done by some trans antifa palestinian who came to Utah from NYC via LA.

He didn't believe in empathy, so I'm going to honour him by not having empathy for him. He was in a position of authority and power and advocated for gun violence over the lives of kids, saying the deaths in school shootings are "worth it". I can only sympathise for his poor children though. Jesus!!

I don't live in America but I heard 3 kids are currently in critical condition after a school/mass shooting. It's weird how this got way more media coverage

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 16 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

This was a dumb thing. Kirk was odious, sure, but of all the people to shoot…They didn’t even take a major player off the board, and the repercussions, the retribution, will not be worth it.

University officials said the shot appeared to come from a nearby campus building roughly 200 yards (180 m) from the event area; local media identified the location as the Losee Center rooftop.

Helluva shot then

Given his attitudes towards guns and empathy, I see no need to be nice -or even civil - about his death. He preached scorn and cruelty, so we should honor that by returning it (legally) with interest.
