[–] Not_Dav3@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The more cheese, the better.

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago

I bet that's also a correct order, they just double the cheese.

Mac is not an acronym.

It is only an abbreviation of macaroni.

Mac and Cheese would be redundant if it were an acronym.

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 32 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Yeah, nobody would say the words of an acronym, like PIN number or ATM machine!

(you are correct)

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There’s ATMs and there are ATM machines and you don’t want to get the two mixed up

[–] Draegur@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago

Oh yeah the Access To Money machines that you see at sketchy convenience stores and whatnot usually have bizarrely high fees

Whereas Automated Teller Machines operated by established financial institutions are a little more trustworthy and reasonable

(I'm only a little bit joking)

[–] stankbucket@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

PIN is an acronym. ATM is an initialism. Please pedant properly.

Same feeling with "VIN Number" ._.

Thank you for acknowledging my (fairly manageable) pain

I've never heard Mac and cheese referred to as 'mac'

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

think of all the hours that have been wasted in your life waiting for people to finish saying macaroni and cheese or saying the full thing yourself

I'll wake you up when you're hungry, I gotchu bro!

[–] dumbass@leminal.space 25 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

It's Mac and cheese, but through sheer awesome coincidence it's also the correct acronym.

[–] ewigkaiwelo@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's yara (yet another recursive acronym), not to be confused with the malware testing suit/programming language YARA (which stands for Yet Another Recursive Acronym)

[–] petersr@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I feel a little disappointed that yara is not a yara.

[–] ewigkaiwelo@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

That's yinara - yara is not a recursive acronym

My 6 year old calls it "Mac'n" he drops the cheese

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 24 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

My 6 year old just drops the whole bowl.

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 9 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Also, keep in mind that the plural is macaronis and cheese

No no, you've got it all backwards! The singular is macaron or macaronus. The plural is macaroni, like viri.

Next time you order Mac and cheese, say it right 😉

Time to start a social media controversy where we argue about whether it's mac. or m.a.c.. It'll be lemmy's written version of the gif controversy. ~~I'll make a masto poll when I get home.~~ done.

Common mistake. That stands for "mac and cheese and cheese" which is just mac with extra cheese.

Don't worry everyone, the experts are here.

[–] kamen@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Somewhat on the same topic, can someone explain how "asf" came about (meaning "as fuck")? I mean I get it, some lazy bums can't be bothered to type "AF" (with the capital letters), but why add an extra letter out of nowhere?

[–] prime_number_314159@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

I suspect it started with self censorship ("as f") rather than abbreviation.

[–] tresspass@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago
def mac():
return mac() + "aroni and cheese"

print("mac" + mac())
