Damn, sounds like Gavin experienced the smallest fraction of what he inflicts on unhoused people every day. 🎻

Hate to see the right and left wings of fascism have disagreements on how best to dispose the poor.

Camps half full vs Camps half empty.

california declaring war on washington dc would be funny as fuck

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 22 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I figure Texas would be the one to start a succession crisis and civil war, but it would be an exciting twist if California does it.

[–] into_highest_invite@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

texas has been threatening to do it since time immemorial but i kinda don't think they have the juice

[–] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, they didn't even do it first during the Civil War the first time

[–] prole@hexbear.net 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The US Civil War is actually part of the reason Texas sucks so much today. A not insignificant number of people living there wanted to stay in the Union, at least 25% of people who could vote (white men) didn't want to join the confederacy. After Texas joined, they executed a lot of Unionists and most of the others fled. They lost generations of people who would have been the "moderate" wing. This is pretty much exactly what's happening now in states that are doing everything they can to push out libs and/or keep them out (example, OK is talking about testing teachers who move there for wokeness)

TX would probably be more like Colorado or other "purple" states. Not that this would matter much, I just think it's interesting

Of course, Texas only existed in the Union in the first place because they fought Mexico for the "right" to own slaves so this so called "moderate wing" would still probably be like the enlightened centrist proto-Nazis at best

Man, look at all those unarmored guts and pelvises

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 22 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You'd think that at least some company in the US would manufacture "plus sized" body armour. It seems like the majority of their cops and brownshirts would appreciate it and surely they'd make bank.

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 3 points 3 weeks ago

The armor isn't for your gut or pelvis. It's for your heart lungs and upper chest. Those are, in my paramedic friend's words, "the off switch area".

Ok, this is rising fascism, now what is this lib going to actually do about it? Anything? Or are they just going to point out that this is Fascism and smugly declare victory while getting taken away to the camps?

doing things is communism, can't be having that

[–] FortifiedAttack@hexbear.net 30 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Best we can do is South Park and sandwiches

[–] Cat_Daddy@hexbear.net 13 points 3 weeks ago

Who said we weren't going to have brunch this summer!?

[–] RamSwamson@lemmy.sdf.org 12 points 3 weeks ago

I was told there would be punch and pie.

[–] DerEwigeAtheist@hexbear.net 27 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

In weimar at least the social democrats abd communists had paramilitary wings that fought with the fascists(even if the SPD ended up, once again, betraying everyone, as opposed to the austrian socdems who at least fought a civil war). Now there is no physical organized opposition to the fascists street troops.

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Well they come after armed leftists fucking hard

[–] DerEwigeAtheist@hexbear.net 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There also isn't any kind of national level organizing happening, it looks like. Which because any organisation that could have become that was destroyed. Of course. But dtill, noone seems to know how to react, or able to.

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 5 points 3 weeks ago

Tbf the problem is that any left gun org doing this has only one response. And once that response is taken basically everyone is dead. The first group to do this is going to die. Maybe as other groups get involved the system gets overwhelmed but as it stands today, the first people are going to suffer.

[–] hellinkilla@hexbear.net 23 points 3 weeks ago

In world without phones, what would people do with their hands?

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 18 points 3 weeks ago

Well beyond rising.
