MODERATORS

Due to recent concerns surrounding feddit.uk's enforcement (or lack thereof) of policies against transphobia, and lemmy.blahaj.zone's unilateral defederation of that instance, it's clear we need to take action in order to protect our users.

For context, please see the following threads:

feddit.uk has been defederated (via blahaj)

Emperor (feddit.uk admin)'s response

Hexbear thread with further context and discussion

Seeing as the feddit moderation team's policies clearly do not align with our own stances on transphobia, bigotry, and reactionary rhetoric generally, we are considering two different options, with feedback requested for whichever route you would prefer (NOTE: we are primarily concerned with how trans users and other marginalized groups feel):

ukkk - Unilaterally defederate from feddit.uk due to lax enforcement of rules against transphobia and their admin citing the recent UK anti-trans court ruling as one of the reasons for this

england-cool - Remain federated with the instance at large while banning their admins, mods and any transphobic users, along with those who violate Hexbear CoC generally (the same way we handled issues with dbzero a while back)

We want to communicate these discussions we've been having behind the scenes to the userbase at large and allow those most impacted to give their input on how to proceed. Please give any feedback below.

england-cool I think maintaining the ability for people here to agitate there is important.

[–] FuckyWucky@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

Every nation/country-specific instance can go, tbh. They always have the worst users.

[–] Kuori@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

down for whatever, but i'd also like to forward a relentless bullying campaign as an option until we do whatever it is we do

for funsies

They don't ban the transphobes.

ukkk qin-shi-huangdi-fireball

If, at some point, they stop treating transphobia like a moral dilemma and have a track record of moderating it right away, maybe we can reconsider

ukkk

If even blajah can't tolerate them they have no business being federated with us

Assuming we defederate, how long will we have between the decision and the defederation itself? Because once we defederate, post edits and deletions won't federate; changes to profile picture, display name, or bio won't federate; and account deletions won't federate, right? Will we ask the Feddit.uk mods to purge Hexbear profiles or?

[–] Edie@hexbear.net 0 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

We will ask them to purge feddit.uk. No half measures.

ukkk Even though blahaj is lame, they were right to do this.

Also campaign to refederate with blahaj.

ukkk I actually wanted to title my post "We need to defederate from Feddit." But I was a little baby coward and felt bad.

england-cool banning the db0 admins was funny

[–] Sickos@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago

ukkk

Deeper ThoughtsI, personally, prefer england-cool, because I think opportunities to educate are good and, when they fail, bullying is fun. And, the less of the fediverse we connect with, the more bigotry is allowed to fester.

But, ukkk is probably the healthy direction for our corner of the fediverse. I want my comrades to feel safe and supported. I think that "we gotta consider how to interpret blatant government transphobia" is a disgusting response from the mods, and that attitude is rapidly gonna turn feddit into another nazi bar. While we can engage and oppose bigots, we cannot change another site's culture when it's being poisoned from the top. The dbzero move was funny, and correct, because that instance has an anarchist tendency, and their userbase's interests overlap with the hexbear mission. A site with an identity based on geographic happenstance does not share that overlap.

spoiler Deeper spicy problematic thoughts Honestly, props to blahaj. I kinda want to refederate with them; give us a fresh batch of libs to spar with, encourage them to chase the chasers out, show their trans and anarchist users what real (as in honest, not as in world) solidarity can look and feel like. They like giving tankies shit, we like giving libs shit; but I think given the political realities of the world today it might be time for a slightly bigger tent.

It’s clear they’ve made their choice on where they stand. The time and need for a multipolar Lemmy has long since arrived.

[–] mraow_@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago

ukkk

The Supreme Court decision, as I understand it, shouldn't even effect the instance — it is a law which states that trans women are not legally considered women, such that the law doesn't mandate discrimination but allows it. Given the funders of this campaign of hate, it's pretty clear this is meant to target women's toilets and changing rooms and to "confuse" "well-meaning" managers in to banning transgender women from women's toilets and changing rooms "in the name of the law".

This would be an easy choice if I was making it.

ukkk just because I almost never see a good take from feddit.uk users anyway. The good ones can or should just join Hexbear anyway, or Lemmygrad if they want more federation

There is something wrong with average angloids at UK both real life and online that are loud with respect to their transphobia when even comparing to north america from what I noticed. ukkk

once again i am asking moderators to allow weighing in without requiring users to use site emojis. Jerbora does not support emojis and I am therefore unable to participate

I don't think I've ever interacted with anyone from fedddit. What communities do they have?
