My understanding is that desantis at one point cracked down too hard on migrants, either successfully kicking them out or simply scaring them off to work elsewhere, resulting in Florida farms being unable to find enough cheap labor to harvest a lot of their fruit crops that year. This isn't stated to be in response to that but it seems like the obvious subtext

The state GOP wants to grandstand and fearmonger about immigration but they don't want to actually get rid of the people harvesting the crops, just make their conditions as deplorable as possible. Idk if DeSantis is just dumb or a true believer or what.

I actually do think it's "better" in one way that isn't completely vibey though: 1 degree F is a lot closer to the difference in air temperature that humans will notice, so especially for like, indoor air, its nice to have that extra resolution to see the difference between 68, 69, 70 F without using a decimal point.
