no, this is just a copy pasta of the Mediterranean Sea onto central US. it ignores the rocky/smoky/blue Ridge mountains and all elevations minus lucky guessing the central plains.

I'm sorry. Im just sensitive to disinformation and apparently not sensitive enough to humor.

[-] fossilesque@mander.xyz 33 points 1 month ago

Happens to the best of us.

[-] jabathekek@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 month ago

Tho at the some time I bet some real estate people would see this and start buying up "future beach front properties".

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 79 points 1 month ago

That's how you know the map is fake.

[-] mipadaitu@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago

No joke, that was the first hint.

[-] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

Wait are you serious? It's the Mediterranean Sea

[-] boaratio@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

No, but I never miss a chance to punch down at Florida.

Was wondering how the hell Florida was above ground when I saw the boot shape. Surprising that Saddam Hussein isn't on this one.

[-] EndOfLine@lemm.ee 19 points 1 month ago

This would make traveling to Italy so much more convinient.

[-] Ironfacebuster@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago

At first I was confused because Tennessee is a lot of mountains, so them getting covered with water was surprising

Then I saw Italy

Meanwhile in Scotland. Even with a worst case scenario we loose our coastal cities but not much else and the country looks nearly indistinguishable from orbit. Unfortunatley more or less all our cities are costal.

[-] batmaniam@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

So yes, I realize this a joke map (honestly, a giant, probably mostly freshwater sea, in the US would be a blessing). But what you're describing is the main issue with climate change.

It's not going to be "the day after tomorrow". It will be coastal cities... which are... like nearly ALL of them... losing all their economic value. In the US when having this conversation I say "what do you do when any building in Manhattan is uninsurable? What do you do when it's sure to have severe damage?".

For most people there are plenty of places to go, but the "going" is going to be very, very ugly.

[-] EarthShipTechIntern@lemm.ee 9 points 1 month ago

The mental climate change of people not being able to read & assess data is truly abhorrent and will demolish the ability to understand maps vs memes.

[-] Nuke_the_whales@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Who is we? Stop putting this at the feet of the poor and telling me it's my job to fix what billionaires are causing
