We.. we are clearly in the stupidest universe, right? I don't believe it can get stupider. (Though I said this before in 2016)

Being honest, I think the techbros and cleptocrats saw Occupy Wall Street and decided the American experiment was over, so the whole bull in a china shop is by design.

EDIT: This -> https://theplotagainstamerica.com/

Except the problems are worse and more numerous, and the President isn't looking for an expert, plus he's one of the bigger problems.

[–] LeighWeighTacoma@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, it's pretty awful. Plus there's no Ow My Balls.

Plus there’s no Ow My Balls.

90% of YouTube shorts is nutshots.

Yeah, the problem in Idiocracy is that there was no one intelligent enough to listen to. In reality, there's plenty of intelligence, but few in power listen to the ones trying to better the planet. Theyre all more concerned about accumulating power and the next election cycle. If it doesnt look good, no matter how many it might help, its not worth doing to them.

Idiocracy was the entire planet. In reality, it’s just America.

There is one level of Backrooms where there's a long rollercoaster that never seems to end and get more bizarre as you go. That's what we're on.

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 10 points 4 days ago

For Generation Xers, it's the charlie and the chocolate factory boat scene.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yes, it is, in fact, stupider: Trump replaced a picture of a President Joe Biden in the White House with a picture of an autopen, then showed President Xi with pride, further evidence--if it were needed--that Trump is dishonorable.

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 3 points 4 days ago

With every news I heard I feel more and more like Futurama's Kif.

[–] BenVimes@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago

As the Epstein emails proved, being rich and affluent doesn't preclude someone from also being illiterate. We like to think these real-life supervillains are smart and sophisticated, like in fiction, because at least then the world makes some amount of sense - it's plausible that a very intelligent person could amass that level of wealth. But the reality is that many of them have the written communication skills of a teenager using MSN Messenger circa 2004.

Loss?

Is this Loss?

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 23 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Is mister Greg Brockman serious with that signature?

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 4 days ago

Should debug it.

[–] DokPsy@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

I was thinking "I bet these other guys practice their signature like a middle school girl with a crush practicing writing her crushes last name. Then this guy forgot how a pen works"

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 6 points 4 days ago

what the hell is even d for? is he trying to act nerdy "oh shit I use gdb so much I wrote it by reflex, wink wink"

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 22 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well, who is taking bets in this being AI generated?

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 28 points 4 days ago (1 children)

probability pretty low. Wrong spelling is rare in language models.

[–] schnurrito@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 4 days ago (1 children)

At least when they generate text directly. When they generate images of text, that is a different story.

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (3 children)

A lot of them are starting to fix that, too. The easy tells are going away fast.

[–] schnurrito@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 4 days ago

Yes. But it was a massive source of humor for me some months ago when I asked AI chatbots to generate metro map diagrams of my city.

Sometimes the station names they wrote on them somewhat resembled real ones, but were humorously misspelled and in completely incorrect positions and orders. Other times, the overall shape of the network was roughly ok, but the station names were completely nonsensical.

Is this real? Like, actually real?
If yes, did they let an AI write the document?
If yes to both... sorry, Americans, but...

🤣🤣🤣

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago

They can cite this when they go back on their promises. “The document wasn’t valid”

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 14 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I'm pretty sure Elon misspelled his own name in his signature, too. It's obvious that he forgot how to write in cursive and was remembering mid-way through, but he very clearly wrote his name as "Elon Muk". Like... the last squiggle is just barely a K, but there is a distinct lack of an S, or even a space for an S.

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

I don't know that we can necessarily critique the spelling of an abstract signature. I mean, mine is pretty unrecognizable as my name; if my initials were XYZ, my signature would kind of look like "xY--", with a little bump at the end that you could kind of interpret as a z.

And famously, the Disney logo looks distinctly like the signature of "Waly Gisnep." Elvis Presley's autograph looks like "Elim rules." John Lennon's looks like the autograph of someone named "Sarah Clancy." Very fittingly, Henry Ford's signature is "Hemmy Turd."

Actually, on that note and in your defense, unreadable signatures kind of seems like a requirement for terrible people. Donald Trump's signature ("Snnnn Suuuuuuugh") is up there looking uncomfortably like Benito Mussolini's "VnnnnnnnWi!," Zuck's "Mr Zz" kind of reminds me of Adolf Hitler's "by Him" signature, and while I can't read Devanagari or Cyrillic, Sundar Pichai's signature sure does call to mind Josef Stalin's.

But it's a thing for not-fascists, too. Kurt Vonnegut's signature is just a line drawing of his head with the letter "t" somewhere in his hair, Emily Dickinson's is literally just her first name, Ruth Bader Ginsburg's looks like "Puth Badu Jinobung," and Charles Dickens' signature looks like it says "Snarls Wickens" (which in hindsight would be a great band name)--and they were some of the most literate people of all time.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 10 points 4 days ago (2 children)

That's one thing, but like... Can we take a moment to appreciate how shit his signature looks? It's not just unreadable, it has zero style. Isn't he supposed to be a CEO or something?

[–] kinkles@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Of all the things we can criticize him for, we’re nitpicking a signature? Mine looks like absolute dogshit.

I can't think of a single person in my life under the age of 40 that has a "nice" signature. I'm not even sure they teach cursive in school anymore. We're basically forced into it because it has legal importance. Mine is trash and varies from one to the next.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 2 points 3 days ago

Mine has style. It's not fancy or intricate, but it's a nice mix of sharp and curving lines for the prominent characters that can be read if you already know what it says, and I can fire it off in about two seconds with a nice rasping sound

I learned cursive very briefly when I learned handwriting, but I've never really used it. I still can barely read it. I spent a little time in grade school coming up with it with some good suggestions from my older sister (since it didn't have much style in real cursive), but it's not like I put very much effort into it. I just decided one day if people were going to make me sign my name on things, I didn't want it to look terrible. And for reference, my handwriting is shit, barely readable to the average person

Literally anyone can do it. It doesn't have to be cursive, it doesn't have to be readable, I once knew someone illiterate who just neatly printed out their name all caps. There's no rules to it, it doesn't even have to be cursive, it doesn't even have to spell your name, it's entirely a matter of style

All of these examples, including my first attempts at my own as an actual child, were better than Elon's.

You could do it right now. Take half a day picking out a style, you could look at fonts for reference, fill just a couple pages to practice, and you're done. Hell, you could hire someone on fiver to design it for you if you wanted. Either way, it'll naturally become easy and faster as you use it

For most people, it really doesn't matter that much, I wouldn't comment if the average person didn't have a good one. But if I were going to be a CEO or politician, where other people might actually see it? Where it's going to end up on people's paychecks? I'd go back to the drawing board and put a little more than an afternoon into it. It's just a matter of dignity

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 8 points 3 days ago

The bar is so fucking low with this imbecile, I’m surprised there aren’t backwards letters to be honest.

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 11 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Whoever wins AI wins?

What do they win exactly?

[–] schnurrito@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Idk but Trump has been obsessed with "winning" indeterminate things since long before AI was widely talked about. During his 2016 campaign he sometimes shouted things like "there will be so much winning that you will get tired of winning".

dude really needs to learn how to pronounce whining

Why does trumps signature have so many letters?

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Have you seen the version with the little dots that looks like a KKK meeting?

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Classic scribble - many people's signatures barely look like writing, especially if they sign things a lot.

[–] woelkchen@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Just rename it American States of America.

American States of Shuddup

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 days ago

This explains everything! No wonder they decided not to regulate it. The "Pledge" was written by AI.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 5 points 4 days ago

Cool, so we're not on the hook for it, Unites States is.

[–] florge@feddit.uk 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Not sure whose signature is worse, Trump's or Brockman's.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 2 points 4 days ago

One is LOOK AT ME, the other is "I is smart".

[–] Kcap@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

This feels like something they'll teach about at the Gavin Nelson Institute of Tethics.
