10+ fucking guys to nab this one guy for failure to check in with parole officer after moving, who literally wasn't even there and later turned himself in.

and 9 of them are all stacked up right on the edge of that janky deck with 200+ lbs of high protein diet and their 55+ lbs of weapons, armor, velcro, and dip.

fucking geniuses. and their supervisor claims it was lucky that none of them accidentally shot each other in the fall, because i guess the idea that they would be anything but weapons-free-rock-and-roll for a non-violent probation screw up is like winning the lottery.

Youtube videos tend to have god awful comments all the time. But then you get a video filled with some real good comments like this one.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago

idk all my niche interest channels have pretty good comments. the more general the audience is the worse it gets.

The visual metaphor of the state forces of fascism as the shoddy infrastructure collapse under their collective weight.

Glad that we discovered that the deck was in bad shape without any people getting hurt!

think-about-it it's not a boobytrap if it's an accident

[–] TheBroodian@hexbear.net 23 points 2 days ago

To make matters a little more ironic, a landlord is probably responsible for this

[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

well what do you know, pigs do fly.

I'm not a Deck Guy and the camera lens is distorting it but the distances between those supports just look obviously off

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I don't think it was the outer supports that were the problem, but the fact that there wasn't proper support on the building side. Like the way it pulls away it looks like it was just nailed to the siding instead of having any kind of structural support.

The supports do look like they're probably too thin for the role they're serving, but the spacing is probably fine.

I'm not a construction guy but I thought there were supports near the building but even though there weren't I think there should have been and they'd still be too widely spaced to be properly safe for more weight than 5-10 people in a small area

Yeah it's hard to tell but I'd be surprised that the deck was allowed to pass inspection without support. Could just be some deferred maintenance or it wasn't installed properly in the first place. Generally there's a board that the joists tie into along with hangers to support them, but if the wood has started to go which I assume happens in Florida humidity faster than other locales the nails / screws could have been getting worked out of the wood. Even pressure treated will fail eventually, especially if your shit ass landlord doesn't want to cough up 20k for a new deck.

without doxxing yourself how do you go into learning stuff like how various boards have joists tied into them in various ways

I have a lot of contractors in my family, you can probably find a few hundred videos on YT showing step by step instructions for most things that you're unsure how to DIY though unless it's incredibly niche.

I watched a video on how to build a pottery wheel from easy to acquire materials a few days ago.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

does florida even have inspections for that?

landlord will just do a shoddy job again and charge extra for the police deterrence.

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have no idea what Florida construction process are like, just in my area you're getting an engineer to draw up a blueprint and then getting it inspected at several stages to make sure everything is in the up and up.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago

oh yeah that's the right way to do it, but florida you can never be sure.

[–] Owl@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

is that groverhaus?

[–] Wiley_Applebottom@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'll be impressed by the Marshals when they start going after real criminals.

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

This guy was a child predator tho (not a kingpin or anything, but definitely not fully innocent)

[–] Wiley_Applebottom@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago

I mean, fuck that guy. But until they start arresting the Sacklers and people of that ilk, all use of State violence is illegitimate.

[–] Speaker@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It is the year 2026 and Hexbears are defending the actions of the sword arm of capital with "he was no angel".

The person I was responding to was implying that a pedophile isn't a real criminal lol, all cops are bastards but you can't say that a pedophile isn't a real criminal

[–] stink@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The charge was that the sex offender didn't register. Idk why they need 10 mfs entering in from their backyard deck instead of just knocking their front door.

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 1 points 21 hours ago

Absolutely lol, I wasn't defending the cops just trying to point out that the guy isn't innocent of a crime. They love excessive displays of power for what should really just be clerical duties.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 1 day ago

Did they arrest the complex owner on multiple assault on federal officer charges? Attempted murder?

Also, "if the suspect would have been there, it would have been up to them to return fire..."

The guy turned himself in, but also from him for being a child predator.
