Looks like the physics will be janky and the UI will look like ass.

a bunch of people got fired for trying to make a union by Rockstar

[–] thefunkycomitatus@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I can't imagine being one of these people who are so hyped up, thinking this shit is going to be the most detailed and realistic game ever, only to boot up the game and the first mission is driving a rusty El Camino to pick up an NPC. Then a 30 min cut scene of some character who's entire shtick is that they talk loud and say the satirical things with a huge elbow to your forehead. Driving, not being able to enjoy the 15 years of detail and ambiance because two characters are doing bad "and then..." together for the entire ride.

Also all the monetization is going to be appalling. In-game stores locked behind irl money. Clothes, accessories, cars, colors, character customization, probably player homes. All going to be hundreds of dollars on top of a $100 base game.

They need to set up the next decade of income for the whole company

Rockstar hasnt added in the hand crafted animation of the character unsticking his underwear from his sweaty balls yet how can you judge it so soon. I for one am excited for grand theft southpark the 6th where the game will simulate each individual muscle fibre resulting in the stiffest clunkiest movement ever created and control handling will change if the character hasnt washed his butthole yet.

Periodical fart mechanic where depending what you eat, you have a chance to shart, and it changes your walk animations until you find a bathroom

and then if you gently touch a physics object at a bad angle your car gets launched into space anyway

That's why you get access to a bidet fairly early on

GTA 6 is a retro revival of the series now, GTA has been without a new release for longer than Mega Man was when Mega Man 9 came out. Same time gap between sequels as Prince of Persia. Wii games were still releasing when GTA 5 came out. Also GTA was never good.

[–] StarkWolf@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I was talking to someone about the time gap and the overall timeline of GTA games a couple months ago, and pointed out that the length of time between GTA 5 and GTA 6 has been the same amount of time and longer than the time between the first and last entries in the entire series before GTA V:

the end of history

[–] imogen_underscore@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

we are not that far from this point with elder scrolls and fallout also

[–] h0ll0w5p4c3@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A main entry for Elder Scrolls is 15 years so far. Fallout is 11 years.

[–] imogen_underscore@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i guess fallout is still a ways off. but arena to skyrim was 17 years. almost there

[–] h0ll0w5p4c3@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

Arena to Skyrim you had 4 mainline games and 3 spin offs. Modern AAA gane development has slowed to a crawl.

Also GTA was never good.

you're right, gta 3-san andreas were great.

Looks ok? Unreal slop has TAA smudgey blur on literally everything especially plants and I'm not seeing that here. The image is sharp even in movement, there is a motion blur effect but that's gonna be something you can turn off in a PC version.

It looks like Red Dead 2, except not the wild west, and the colour is kinda washed out? Not a fan of that washed out colour filter look but I guess they're going for a specific vibe that might not come through in a couple of clips.

only the coolest websites wall off their content like this.

Here's all the videos so far. They're getting DMCAd so two are only on archive.org and I expect the third will be hit too so I'll go ahead and use the archive link there too:

when the guy gets road rage from getting into an accident with the player and brings a pipe wrench to try and brain the guy felt very lore accurate to florida.

the first pistol whipping in video 3 wasn't very clean visually, but that's a new sort of mechanic. kinda reminded me of rdr2, tbh. same with picking up the security guard's hat and popping it on.

like im not gonna buy this game because fuck R* for their treatment of workers and anti-union shit, plus im sure it will be monetized out the ass with microtransactions, and theyll probably be huge a-holes about the PC port or ever letting it work on linux without full kernel access for their anti-cheat/surveillance monitoring.

but i gotta admit that seeing the little +2 improved focus ding for shooting hoops in the front yard would be all id need to max out my focus (whatever it is) before even doing a single mission. as soon as the gym opened up in GTA:SA i stopped doing everything else until my dude was jacked to the max. both so my punches were lethal and because it made me look disturbing in the cutscenes. used to crack me up when tenpenny or his partner would poke my completely yoked chest and talk down to me despite my guy looking like a completely juiced meat head that could suplex a fridge. the muscle/body stuff and the changeable fighting style mechanic were sorely missed by me.

in GTA:V i maxed out my "special ability" immediately for michael by obsessively doing yoga in the backyard lol.

i love all that stupid side shit for stats and weird cosmetic crap.

[–] Speaker@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

I wheelied on a bicycle uninterrupted for approximately a million years to get the biking stat maxed out. Barely used a car the entire game because CJ had the immortal haunches.

UI is usually one of the last things to be completed because everything that provides information for the UI needs to be final first or you waste a lot of work making ui for shit that gets cut or changed.

that said, as an HD era hater, i fully expect to not like the driving, shooting, on-foot movement, interface, and writing in the final product.

[–] jackmaoist@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I think it was alright in GTA4-5 but this looks like RDR2 level of clunky.

[–] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago

GTA IV was good (even thought it had some clunky stuff), GTA V felt empty (I have a feeling that they based a lot of the gameplay on Max Payne 3). RDR2 was really bad lol

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

idk i just wanted iteration on san andreas/VCS and they went and did a whole thing instead

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yeah I've hated the controls since IV, which is why saints row is better they kept a level of 'bounciness' that keeps things fun which the newer GTA titles have abandoned in the pursuit of 'realism', whatever I'll keep playing that garbage

[–] Nopeace@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I have been hating on this game for years at this point. All my g**** friends telling me they're buying it, it can't be bad etc and I feel so vindicated from the last like 6 months when people finally started to realize they're going to pay 100 bucks for updated graphics on the same fucking game as GTA V. Fuck this game, I will never buy this garbage.

[–] Snort_Owl@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I think admitting to liking gta here should be an insta ban

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

GTA games should be purchased second hand at a pawn shop for five bucks and missions should never be played. I had a lot of fun dicking around in San Andreas/getting ny wanted level up and seeing how long i could last.

and missions should never be played

to be fair i bet that is the majority of gta players, they never touch the story they just like the whole fuck shit up in a city

Hot take but I don't like GTA as a series. I remember playing GTA 4 when it came out and thinking "wow this formula feels dated"

[–] ashinadash@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

It was during a cutscene in GTA IV, when Niko says to his cousin "We did some bad things during the war, and bad things happened to us" that I finally realised that GTA has close to no artistic merit.

[–] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 day ago

I still like GTA SA/Vice because of their more "arcade-like" and less realistic more videogaming vibe, but yeah, they're pretty dated. You're basically just a driver who listens to the passengers dialogue, without needing to animate cutscenes, and the gunfight are pretty whatever.

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I think that, when GTA works, it works, but I remember many times during GTAV thinking "this game is taking the piss". If the whole game was six hours and it was just the heists and other interesting parts it would be peak, but as it is GTA is more like socialism-beer

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

I think the Saint's Row games did a much better job of this. It's only like half head on the beer, over there.

gonna be honest if you showed me this without telling me it’s GTA 6 i would have thought this was Watchdogs 2

[–] jackmaoist@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Some people are legit posting Watchdogs 2 gameplay as leaks lol

[–] whatdoiputhere12@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

i also love that whoever is playing (probably the leaker)

it’s like their first day playing or it’s a game journalist, their driving is dogshit i-cant

Iirc the leaked build is from 2023

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

It's from 2025 at the earliest, maybe very late 2024. The song that's playing on the radio apparently was recorded in 2024 and released in 2025, which gives a solid boundary of how far back it could be from.

The 2023 thing came from the version of the screencapture software used for it, I believe.
