Mebendazole and ivermectin combined to 275mg? The typical ivermectin dose alone is .2mg/kg, so a 180lb/81.5kg person would only take 16-ish mg. So this person took way more ivermectin than needed for a parasitic infection (and stupid for taking it without one). Mebebdazole is 100mg/x2 a day, so this is more than double the dose for a single recommended pill.
Just in case anyone wants to know how much not to take.

i think ever since covid ivermectin has become a magical cureall for idiots, and the more the betterer as far as the dosage goes.

It's also a human dewormer, or many other kinds of parasite. At proper dosage it's generally a very safe drug. Two things.
- Ivermectin is a drug that costs cents to make 100s of pills. If you're paying $500 for a bottle... They saw you coming.
- Don't buy medications from scammers. See point 1.
Fake. Not the right price. Not the right dosage. Not a likely reaction even at that dose.

There are however some medicines and treatments that legitimately started as "alternative".
A lot of it is horseshit though.
Also modern medicine isn't infallible(nor the people that practice it).
Statistically though, it's fucking high magic compared to most internet sourced diagnoses.

Have friends in the medical field, a lot of time they are just sort of trying shit and then are happy it worked.
Medical science is just that, medicine that follows the scientific method. (Or at least it's supposed to).
The scientific method is basically testing guesses (sometimes educated ones) and seeing what happens.
There's a whole lot of structure and guidelines, but testing guesses(hypotheses) is where it's at mostly.
The current state of any science is usually "the best theory we have right now, given the data and resources available to us"
Some people hear that and think "look, they're just guessing, why should I listen to them?" and thats absolutely valid.
Where that falls down is that they then go on to assume all guesses are equal and ignore the time and resources that went in to that current scientific best guess.
Is it always correct? no, is it more likely to be beneficial than a random social media post by an influencer with no medical expertise? Generally yes.

I've actually met a lot of people who know a lot about what happened to him. Theres an entire industry and field of academics dedicated solely to it and places of business in pretty much every town across the nation for it.
They're called Doctors.

Somehow, that's the worst part of this to me -- somebody got hugely ripped off. I regularly need to buy ivermectin for actual horses, and it's $10-$15 for a horse-sized dose. And this dumb motherfucker spent $500 on a single bottle?

Depending on his weight that could be quite a high dose of ivermectin (the normal dose is 0.2mg/kg) but that seems like an extreme reaction.
I see three possibilities:
- He's very light weight and sensitive to the drug
- He's having an allergic reaction
- He actually did have a parasite infection and he's having a Mazzotti reaction.
