Source? I’m a middle aged Muslim and this is definitely the first time I’ve heard for this. Islam only prohibits religious iconography due to the whole idolatry thing. But no hard rules exist in the Quran. Also Hadith is quite debatable compared to Quranic verse.

IRJ is the Islamic Republic of Japan, the thing we're talking about here. People are participating in the joke idea of an Islamic Japan, you're not going to get a lot of nuance out of that.
