Serving in Iran? You mean terrorizing in Iran?

I doubted the validity of it but there has been news articles. It's the sailors on the ships in the Gulf of Oman who are running out of food. They probably had to forego replenishment because of the sheer unpredictability and chaos in their operations caused by the Trump admin's incompetence.

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 20 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Yeah, a good strategic leader of the forces would be looking at supply chains, timing, weather, and more factors than I know about, and all that is ruined by a overriding idiot like trump saying full speed ahead, no wait backup, OK now turn broadside for a photo op

[–] Zebrafive@lemmy.myserv.one 11 points 3 weeks ago

Likely very true.

I can imagine that the surfacing of these articles will prompt the Executive to blame the Navy, demand a fix and gloat about it when they get replenished and host some big food event event aboard. All while the senior Naval leadership (Aboard) has likely been complaining and signaling about this possibility for awhile now.

Because many people on-board that vessel have encountered likely the exact situation many times over.

This is from an aircraft carrier as I found out

Big decline since the time of the ice cream ships.

WW2 field rations were revolutionary for the time, and US troops rarely went unsupplied (Axis forces often had missing food supplies all the time. The Japanese and Russians had it particularly bad). But the field rations were often described as being unfilling and didn't provide enough calories as needed. But they were not as bad as many people make them out to be. Granted if I had to eat nothing but those rations for weeks on end I'd be a very sad soldier.

But combat is one of the most calorie-intensive activity you can do. Hungry soldiers aren't good soldiers. Whenever they could they tried to get soldiers meals from field kitchens, even those on the front lines and in active combat. It kept morale and energy up.

this is one of those things that's hard to communicate to people... hot A's - a single warm meal per day even - is an incredibly better experience than shipped food or MREs. especially when it's shitty cold or raining and you're outside 24/7

logistically hard but worth the investment

whats wrong soldier boys, don't like what uncle sam is serving you? maybe they should have made better choices when voting.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 16 points 3 weeks ago

Bet your commanding officer is starting to look pretty tasty right about now...

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

We can talk all the shit we want about our soldiers and it will never equal the amount of disrespect they get from the United States government.

You know, if you're one of them reading these comments, fighting for the fascists is a choice you are actively making. When you hear vets from the past saying they risked their life for our freedoms, you don’t get to say that anymore. If you won’t risk jail or a dishonorable discharge for your country then you definitely won’t risk your life for it. Which is exactly why the current military are either craven losers or authoritarian white supremacists. A bad look, if you ask me. This is their choice, and they made it. We should force them all to lay in that bed for as long as this country remains.

So i don’t respect the military, but apparently those fascist enabling bitches like that treatment.

Lol our military feeds soldiers how our hospitals feed the poor and our schools feed the poor and our prisons feed the poor.

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 7 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I went to public school on welfare and got the free lunch, which was a full lunch from whatever menu you chose from.

I was a poor kid in a very rich town.

So at some point they definitely didn’t treat poor kids like shit, everywhere.

Carrots, I think a plain hamburger patty but it looks more like a child's science project on mold spores, and what I can only see as part of the insole of a shoe

Somebody answer. What is that thing?

Looks like a single slice of roast beef or something, plus bunless hamburger.

[–] Zebrafive@lemmy.myserv.one 10 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

I think the roast beef or something is labeled as 'gyro meat' aboard the carriers-experience.

What it is actually made of I have no idea.

The carrier often operates on a 'pay check to pay check' diet. The machine is packed with food stores, ammo, repair parts, etc and then it sallies forth.

The food is cooked, eaten, spoiled, otherwise consumed and must be replenished. Replenishing the machine is a huge phenomenon. Sometimes.the replenishing does not happen soon enough or there is rationing because they know the ritual of replenishment can only happen on x date which is a long way out.

With news articles like the one hyperlinked by someone, im sure the priests of the machine are going to ensure to gather a bountiful replenishment and spoil the men and women of the machine as soon as is actually possible--hopefully.

[–] BleakBluets@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Yeah it's 100% gyro strips. I've had them in gyro kits before. While they have a less saturated color like spam or other processed meats, I think the lighting angle in this picture distorts it a bit.

They can be really greasy so that's what the light is reflecting. I dab them with paper towels when I prepare them.

Normally it's not served plain, obviously. Usually it's on a round peta with onion, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber sauce.

Edit: Here's an example of what I mean. Sometimes the cheap, hyper-processed stuff doesn't have the frilled edges that most people would expect from "off the cylinder" gyro meat.

And imagine still riding the maga wave and worshipping a pedophile while fighting a bullshit war in the Middle East while eating this. After the president called you a loser and disrespected the Medal of Honor.

Holy crap, they're actually running out of food on those ships? I didn't think that was even a possibility wihin the US forces.

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 15 points 3 weeks ago

Normally when you start a war there is months of planning and prep to make sure all your troops stay armed, fueled, and fed. You don't 'yolo, war tomorrow' and ship eveyone out.

Because the deployment was abrupt as last ditch attempt to distract the people from Epstein files. The logistics hasn't been prepared adequately for deployment. Basic military knowledge teaches that supply is paramount for any operations. I think the previous chief of staff was sacked because he disagreed with off the whim decision to deploy troops without adequate preparations.

[–] matlag@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 weeks ago

Imagine the US forced to retreats because their soldiers start to fall sick from malnutrition.

Best military force in the world!

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

The Epstein Empire's invading force deserves much worse.

[–] FireWire400@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Alright, let's get that out onto a tray!

Nice

A couple of notes:

This was a picture shared by a Marine aboard a Navy aircraft carrier (USS Abraham Lincoln), not soldiers (that would be the Army, and implies ground troops in my mind). Second, I asked a friend who served like 10 years in the Navy and he said "oh yeah shit like this is just kinda normal. looks good compared to what we got sometimes!" That said I wouldn't even feed this to a stray animal.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 8 points 3 weeks ago

Oil prices so high they’re starving the soldiers to save on jet fuel when they transport their caskets back.

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 8 points 3 weeks ago

Is that a shoe sole? 🤣🤣🤣

[–] 0_o7@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 3 weeks ago

Ride eternal, shiny and chrome

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 7 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, well when they get better food than that, they're about to be sent to their deaths.

[–] ArmchairAce1944@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 weeks ago

This shit looks like prison food...
