I was listening to a podcast somewhere that interviewed a performer (this was years ago) and it was said that when incest porn was on the rise it was because there were one or two really rich dudes with the fetish who were bankrolling a ton of scenes like that and they, of course, were releasing them for mass consumption in order not to just be blowing money on the shit they were directly into. It proved popular enough that it kind of took off. I think the second part is where Christman's analysis comes in.

the executive producers not at all disguised fetish

The fetish's of the ruling class are in every epoch the ruling fetish, i.e. the class which is the ruling material force of society, is at the same time its ruling fetishizing force.

Tarantino and Dan Schneider's obsession with feet 🤔

Matt Cushman once theorized the real fantasy was "getting laid without have to leave the house".

lmao. a legimately enchanting notion.

I have no idea why it became so popular, but to try to make a real distinction from stereotypical plot-based porn, maybe it’s the difference between sex with a stranger vs sex with someone you know? Are people listening to porn with the volume up? If it’s muted, it might just seem like an awkward will-they-won’t-they(but they definitely will) of a legitimate friendship turned sexual.

It might feel a bit more passionate to watch someone have sex with someone the actor supposedly already has a relationship than a random pizza boy or mechanic etc. I don’t know how popular “watch me have sex with my girlfriend” videos are, but I feel like people who are substituting relationships with porn would specifically avoid those because of their shame and jealousy of not having a partner? But if you’re watching someone so without shame that they’d have sex with a step sibling, the viewer doesn’t have to think about their own needs and issues as much. They get to be more “pure” when comparing themselves to incestuous siblings while still getting off.

Theres also probably something people find hot about taboo shit in general too. Maybe it’s as simple as “Stranger is to Secret-sex-in-public-porn as Known-person is to Step-sibling-porn”.

But I’m ace, so what the fuck do I know.

My pet theory on this is, porn is highly dependent on the “ooh la la” factor of hedonistic taboo boundary crossing as a crutch to cover for 95% of traditional studio porn being garbage with no sense of sensuality or eroticism. Make a big deal over the actress doing some act that “good women” don’t do to cover for the complete lack of chemistry.

Problem is, today’s taboo has a tendency to become tomorrow’s vanilla. Blowjobs used to be a thing only the dirtiest Parisian women of the night did, now they’re about as plain as plain gets. So porn ran into territory where all their previous taboos had lost that luster, and that left acts that were too far/gross for the average porn consumer’s taste.

Then comes incest, riding on a semi-highbrow wave of intrigue off GoT, with a workaround. The sex acts can be vanilla, but the presented relationship between the two characters is the hedonistic barrier. However, even though the whole thing is fictional regardless, they see going full incest as a bridge too far so the semi-incest step-relative sex becomes the “just spicy enough” middle ground.

I have this theory as well which is why I also think feet are such a fetish for many people. Feet are culturally gross in a lot of ways. I think another thing is a lack of exposure as well. I'll explain.

Additionally feet are generally the one part of the body that is left completely to imagination. A woman could wear all kinds of tight and revealing clothing that shows pretty much every curve (no criticism here just an observation) but then her feet are covered. An example would be a woman in workout wear, like a body tight stretchy one or two piece outfit that is breathable and flexible. Withe that everything is more or less on display except her feet. They are in shoes. Feet are pretty complicated in structure with all the bones and moving parts so you can't fully guess what they look like. There is a mystery there and I think that contributes to the fetish.

I want to be clear I am totally not a foot guy. I like thick woman.

they see going full incest as a bridge too far

afaik it's actually illegal in USA porn, that's why they have to mention they're not blood related

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What if the actors are related, but they play step relatives?

Also worth noting the main consumers of mock incest porn (step mother is a biggie) is republican men, like Ted Cruz tweeting out a pornhub video.

[–] NewOldGuard@lemmy.ml 41 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Ted Cruz retweeting porn on 9/11 is one of my favorite historical facts

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 2 points 18 hours ago

God I came so close to telling you that 9/11 is older than twitter, I think I might be too stupid for t'internet i-love-not-thinking

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I always wondered why porn videos have the standard array of share buttons. Like "Boy this video is great, let me just quick share it to grandma on Facebook."

[–] Mindfury@hexbear.net 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I swear the devs of the big porn platforms just absolutely did it for the bit

like "every other web2.0 site has share to social, we should do it and ruin some marriages lol"

[–] rubber_chicken@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I once stayed in a frat house over the summer, just for the cheap room. I didn't have to pledge or anything; most of the bros were elsewhere and they just put the empty rooms on craigslist. The worst thing was that I came home one day and they were all in the living room watching hardcore porn. Their dicks weren't out; they were just watching porn together. So if you think that button is a joke or something because sharing porn is just too gross, you're underestimating the number and grossness of gross dudes.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 2 points 19 hours ago

my uncle told me a similar story about watching porn with a roomful of dudes, but that was in the ... 60s maybe? they had a small movie projector and the porn was on actual real film. and it was a smallish room in some flat. everyone was smoking. windows closed.

must've been a lovely experience.

I feel like the male fantasy in porn is either a power fantasy or an acceptance fantasy.

  1. Power: actor dominates another person sexually which reinforces the viewer's self-perception (vicariously through the dominant actor) as masculine whether or not they really live up to the ideal of a powerful, masculine man irl

  2. Acceptance: actor is sexually desired despite falling short of the masculine ideal OR actor meets the masculine ideal and is desired because of that but does not dominate

  • "Pizza guy" trope - man is not traditionally in a role that is seen as successful or powerful. Gets sex despite their lower social standing because of their innate qualities (attractiveness) or just because they are desired by the pizza recipient

  • Femdom - actor is intentionally put in a role of submission but is still sexually gratified, if not also desired

  • Old/ugly guy with younger person trope - man is not traditionally attractive, but is still desired

  • Attractive guy with attractive person - man is desired bc they are hot, viewer also wants to be desired bc someone thinks they're hot

  • Incest - desired by someone they care about in a way that is strong enough to break the incest taboo. This may also be a power fantasy if the man is in a position that is typically seen as submissive (son, younger brother) but gets sexual power over a family member.

My theory was that it surged in popularity after some major porn sites got threatened by their payment processors and decided to clean up underage and underage-adjacent videos. So people who are young enough to still live with their siblings or their parents became as close as someone could get to saying, “this person is immature and vulnerable” without getting their account moderated.

(No shade if you’re older and live with your parents, by the way. I was just referencing the stereotype)

[–] XiaCobolt@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

I think also someone explained that in old school VHS and DVD porn a shoot is not used for just one release. You mix them with different compilations. It's really easy to have them say some incest lines for the incest compilation and then cut them for a different one.

Piracy, uploading and algorithms sort of exaggerated it and then it sort of became copies of copies etc.

[–] ForteanCum@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've never looked for "incest", but if I see step sibling incest in a video title, then I reliably know there is a high probably of creampie and near zero probably of watching an 80 year old man jacking it for 10 minutes straight for a facial (which won't even be a good facial) because he's so old/whiskydicked/steroidmaxxed that he can't even come during natural intercourse with an attractive partner.

[–] mrfugu@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Who even watches porn for the plot lines anymore? Even very early into my jorking career, the bad acting was honestly just distracting to me. I feel like most modern porn (especially amateur stuff) has zero story and honestly I’m fine with that. I just want to see people enjoying themselves. If I want a story there’s plenty of smut with much better plot lines.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

The people involved enjoying themselves (in the sense they present to the camera) is frequently a fictional story too, so perhaps you have more in common with the story enjoyers than you first thought.
