Whatever Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow was.

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Genre-wise, I'd call it dieselpunk.

Some of mine have been adapted from books, so I specified the media:

Movie: Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Series

TV: Under the Dome

TV: Kim's Convenience

TV: The OA

TV: Ponies (maybe they renew for a second season 🀞🏼)

Bonus- Shows that lasted a little too long:

Orange is the New Black, Westworld

Last time I tried to watch Firefly gave up @s1e4. The other one on Netflix, I gave that up in e1. Both cringe as hell.

More Culture books by Banks, more Discworld by Pratchett...

[–] themoken@startrek.website 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Another person of refinement and good taste, I see. Both gone way too early. I have been rationing Discworld since Pratchett died.

The Shepherds Crown will get you, but it's one of his best books

[–] absGeekNZ@lemmy.nz 4 points 21 hours ago

You don't ration Discworld, you reread it every 5 years.

And maybe revisit a favourite or six every other year.

Band of Brothers type of show but for ww1

[–] bob_lemon@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

They could use the same trench set for the entire season.

The OA
Carnival
Constantine
Kaos

I still think about OA a lot.

I'm a Pbs Passport subscriber and there's this show called Expedition with Steve Backshall where this guy ventures in to places where nobody has ever been before like long lava tubes and remote islands to find unique wildlife. Unfortunately, there are only 2 seasons

If like Expedition with Steve Backshall you’ve got check his other works on the BBC. He did several series of Deadly 60 for kids and several Land of the … specials where he travels to other exotic locations. I saw him live talking about his travels and he took questions from kids in the audience and he’s quite charismatic and charming.

Labyrinth. With more labyrinthing and less singing and dancing.

Tintin!

And Dredd. Those last 2 really deserved sequels.

It's eight books in total (sorry) but I'd love to see a TV adaptation of Julian May's Saga of Pliocene Exile and the associated Galactic Milieu novels. Apparently, it was in the running vs. The Wheel Of Time ... perhaps I should be grateful it lost!

Otherwise, and looking at more modern stuff:

1899, Kaos, Constantine, and The Bastard Son of the Devil Himself.

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It hurt to lose 1899 just when things were getting interesting.

[–] UncleArthur@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

Indeed, especially knowing what might have been in store from the makers of DARK.

Ive been so disapointed in stuff I really have no wish for anything in particular.

[–] riskable@programming.dev 1 points 1 day ago

Spellmonger.

I wish the author would stop writing side stories about characters no one cares about and focus on the MC and progressing the main story forwards.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

There were two Travis McGee movies, both pretty meh. I'd like to see the novels done as 6 hour series.

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Barry Hughart's tales of Master Li Kao and Number Ten Ox. There are three books in the series, but he originally planned more. I believe he had some issues with his publisher and gave up on writing the follow-ups. Shame, because it's my favourite fantasy series.

Manly video games like gears of war. They are making everything woke, gay and bland now. Even GTA 6 is going in that direction, and I remember when vice city came out it became popular because of the media shitstorn it caused with even politicians talking about regulating that kind of content.
