Men make money to survive this cyberpunk dystopian capitalist hellscape.

Women make money to survive this cyberpunk dystopian capitalist hellscape.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 27 points 1 month ago (13 children)

I'd hate to break this to you, but the cyberpunk dystopian capitalist hellscape is in its infancy. It's barely learning to crawl yet.

Enjoy the next thousand years or so... if you can...

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I hate to break it to you but cyberpunk is a critique of today's world. Tomorrow can always get much worse.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Today's world is a toe dipped in the lake of cyberpunk critique.

Transhumanism is, for the most part, still a crackpot fringe theory. Most of us aren't brainchipped, and there are still recognizable human interactions on the web.

For those wondering what typically defines the cyberpunk literary genre, its key elements include:

High-tech, low-life scenarios: Advanced technology, such as cybernetics, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality, is prevalent, but it exists alongside widespread societal breakdown and poverty.

Dystopian future:
The settings are typically bleak and oppressive, often dominated by powerful corporations or decentralized, corrupt power structures.

Impact of technology on humanity:
Cyberpunk explores how technology shapes society, culture, and individual identity .

Antiheroes and rebellion:
Characters are often morally ambiguous rebels fighting against oppressive systems.

I'm sure it's true for some women. But I wouldn't be surprised if most working women were either married or in a committed relationship. Plus, a lot of households have two incomes out of necessity. Both partners need to work full time just to make ends meet.

sad

People will always need each other. Money doesn't change that. People need affection and intimacy. This culture war shit keeps us filtering the world though the "safety" of their apps instead of actually connecting with each other, which is why we're all so fucking miserable imo.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 month ago (2 children)

No, no — now repeat after me:

Men are bad.

Unless you're a man at which point:

Women are bad.

I hope I helped.

Women hate men. They don't date men, go out with them, hang out, marry them, fuck them or become their girlfriends. This is known since time immemorial.

Men go camping to get away from people.

Women go camping to meet bears.

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.social 27 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Plenty of men work overtime so they don’t have to go back to their wife or gf

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 8 points 1 month ago (6 children)

One of my friends is going through a divorce and one of the reasons his wife gave us is that he would sit in his car in the driveway and look at his phone for a bit when he got home. There are other reasons but that one stuck out to me.

As a gay man I can whole heartedly tell you only women think men make money just to get women. Plus if a woman is attracted to a guy just because of wealth then that’s a doomed relationship, now go sip your tea

My sister has a pretty high up job in a bank

She has her own kid (bought through sperm donation etc)

Her own apartment and a summer home

Travels the world, with her kid

In all my life she has mentioned having a boyfriend twice, for very short periods

She fits this meme

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 14 points 1 month ago

Variation on the joke.

Parents of a high school age boy and girl have a photo on the living room wall.

It's a picture of a fat, bald old man in a Speedo standing on a yacht with a pretty girl hugging him.

"It's to inspire our kids to stay in school and get good grades. We want our son to try and be like the man, and our daughter not to be like the woman who is with him."

[–] Washedupcynic@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 month ago

Traditionally, men have been taught that to get married or have a partner, they need to be the breadwinner. This is partly due to women not having the right to own property, have a bank account, or credit cards until the 1960s/1970s. This means that there is a subset of men raised to believe having a job makes them an attractive partner, and that's the only thing they need to be an attractive partner.

Women on the other hand, have been entering the workforce, and the pay gap has narrowed. Now women make on average $0.85 to every dollar a man makes. Women can be and are financially independent. So now, as a man or potential partner, you have to bring more to the table than having a job.

I think this has led to the incel crisis. You have a subset of men that are emotionally stunted because they were not taught better; while women have a the peace and security that independence brings and they aren't going to disrupt that for just anyone.
