libs on Minnesota Reddit were praising this as some epic pwnage - people rolling things down a hill with anti ice slogans on them, and then this bowling pin lineup of 'dictators'

what are we, a bunch of... people who effectively resisted U.S hegemony?

(Trump included because he may have just accelerated it's demise)

They cannot even focus their hatred on orange man bad, they MUST sneer at the insidious subhuman east. Fucking libs man

[–] MaoTheLawn@hexbear.net 37 points 2 days ago (1 children)

you really expect Americans to do an ounce of research about the surname of someone they don't consider human

[–] newacctidk@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

I would at least hope their Weebs among them would point it out

[–] Wheaties@hexbear.net 30 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Even if you're a liberal, this is poor political messaging. Why are you bringing up other world leaders? It just distracts from the point you want to make;

We want Trump out! Why? He sent ICE and the military into our city, abducted and killed people

Clear and to the point.

This on the other hand is just... what if no bad government everywhere. Nice sounding (if you don't scrutinize all the assumptions and biases), but also unactionable. Empty spectacle, but not even particularly well stage-managed spectacle.

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago

Exactly and it's just further evidence that Russiagate conspiracy bullshit broke libs brains

[–] yunqihao@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

Guy Debord's The Society of the Spectacle. French and pretentious but has a point that in the west spectacle has replaced any real action/interaction.

This is what substituting materialist analysis with vibes does. It's false consciouness manifest: in some of the clearest, most radicalizing conditions that you could conceive of for a bunch of Minnesotans, they land at the conclusion that their fight is against the nebulous concept of authoritarian leaders instead of the real material structures that are occupying their cities.

[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 24 points 2 days ago

How much blame do we give to organizers on the ground and how much is these people are just that far away from us? Like it's hard to see people not get it when Fascism is right at their door. IDK what will move people... I don't understand how to change people's minds

[–] Notcontenttobequiet@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago

Perfect analysis 💯

It's american nationalism performed through the use of ritual slagging off of national enemies instead of through the use of worshipping an american flag.

Republicans perform their nationalism through "America First"

Democrats perform their nationalism through "Putin/Kim/Xi must be second!"

This single degree of separation allows dems to convince themselves they're not nationalists, but are patriots, in reality it's just two shades of the exact same thing that results in the exact same foreign policy. Imperialism coming home in the form of ICE doing occupations and terror campaigns in cities is a direct result of this nationalist support for imperialism abroad.

In my opinion the exact moment when a person addresses this nationalism inside themselves is the same moment that a person becomes an anti-imperialist and properly graduates into the international leftist movement.

There were people in germany doing this in the 1930s with Hitler and Stalin, I think they called themselves the SPD

These dumb motherfuckers really think Asian given names are last names

[–] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Jong Un

Jinping

These are their given names. Surnames are ordered first in East Asia.

Edit: Never mind, @newacctidk@hexbear.net, @Texas_Instruments_TI_69@hexbear.net, and @purpleworm@hexbear.net beat me to it.

[–] MeowZedong@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 2 days ago

It just further speaks to the political and cultural literacy of those involved.

[–] kleeon@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago

was kim jong un the one who created ICE, or was it putin?

[–] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 29 points 2 days ago

This reminds me of how I've had to repeatedly explain why publicly criticizing Maduro and Iran right now is counter-productive to opposing Trump, and would also legitimize American intervention, which has historically gone poorly. Some people just don't really dig/think any deeper than "West says dictator, dictator bad, only politics other than vote is basic protest".

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 36 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Yet another example that the average imperial core lib is 100% on board with the American empire, they just have an issue with the optics of having trump in charge.

Fuck me, they could have made the other pins other members of the trump regime/republican party, hell they could've labeled one "ICE", but they have 0 problems with the fact deportations are happening they just want to be able to ignore it

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't think libs dislike most of Trump's cabinet, or even ICE itself. They pin all the blame on Trump, like an evil mind controlling villain that has "taken over" the good and wholesome republican party and forced their brownshirts to do terrible things against their own will. They see it like a movie, where you get rid of the big bad guy and everything returns to normal.

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago

In a way it's similar to the way Hitler (and a few others) is used to take the blame for everyone that contributed to the Third Reich. Even high ranking generals like Rommel got whitewashed as "good Germans" lenin-dont-laugh

[–] CommCat@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago

was there any doubt that Western Liberals are for US empire? Even Western Socdems are pro-US Empire. The only difference really is just about woke Imperialism, Liberals like using identity politics when they do their bombings, whereas Trump doesn't bother, he'll outright say he will steal Venezuela's oil.

[–] MarxusMaximus@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

These people are angry about having soldiers in their streets because those soldiers should be in Asia committing genocides for the oil industry!

Every single time. America behaves Americanly and the libs are all like "What are we, a bunch of Asians?"

Every day I agree more and more with that tweet saying that their enemy is the American people.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I know multiple people have already remarked on this, but it's amazing to me that these people feel the need to make these pronouncements when they can't even get given name versus family straight. Like, how much do you really think you understand what's going on in those countries if you don't even know which name is a family name? It's like Ted Cruz calling for regime change in Iran when he doesn't know how many people are there or what the second largest ethnic group is.

Do you know what the names on the four obscured pins are?

[–] LocalMaxima@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago

Bin Salman, Erdogan, Netanyahu, and Lukashenko

[–] yunqihao@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago

As was pointed out by a few people why would they bother wasting their oh so precious time learning anything about a people they clearly view as subhumans in need of the great guiding hands of the white saviours. Which is honestly extra ironic given they clearly can't even save themselves.

cope: this is a psyop by dems/cia

reality: libs are beyond cooked

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago

How do any of these people except Trump have anything to do with ICE. Libs can't help themselves they have to toe the CIA party line

[–] Texas_Instruments_TI_69@hexbear.net 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Not even a single person involved in making this knew that in many east Asian countries, your family name comes first and your personal name comes last. Jong Un? Jinping? cracker

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago

I'm guilty of this, I thought it was only in Japan that it was family name first. Jinping sounds funny to Xi.

[–] thefunkycomitatus@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

So right before the election in 2016, a full two weeks before Trump first says the term, the lib media comes out with "fake news." Almost overnight the entire party with the help of consultants and tech leaders begin this campaign against foreign-led information that counters US propaganda. Libs are told that Russia, China, and others are everywhere online pushing misinformation about how great America is. They're working with Zuck, they're working with Twitter, they're working with reddit. They create new publications and platforms to combat fake news while making sure every lib wine aunt and online liberal nerd is anxiety-ridden about foreign influence.

Trump takes that term and beats the absolute fuck out of Dems with it to the point it's rendered completely useless. The consultancy grift continues, they keep trying to argue about misinfo. As the election comes to pass the consultant grift around Hillary springs into action and with the help of Obummer, start up Russiagate. Trump ascended and is president because of Xi, Putin, and other "bad actors." That language, invented by think tanks, gets completely absorbed by libs and redditors. Now your liberal wine aunt is talking like a CIA intern and stressing out about facebook memes being covert Russian psychic weapons.

We are battling a decade+ of well funded, highly organized propaganda. It seems hopeless and it does suck. However, it is not the end of hope. We can push it the other way but it's going to take time and a lot of annoying conversations.

John Oliver will someday answer for his many crimes, I firmly blame him for this

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This is somehow worse than that yoga session they did in front of the ICE detention center

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago

Inside you are two protestors:

Those that break into the squad cars and steal weapons

And those that play slap and tickle with one another in mascot costumes
