Now I want a shirt with that pattern to really screw with people. Then again, where I live (the US) that's probably not a good idea.
I don’t know, it might be a good idea. If you’re involved in a “mass shooting event” you could just drop and play dead.
Doesn't always work.
I think in one shooting (NZ Christchurch?), the shooter made sure to get a headshot on every corpse to make sure they're dead.

Usually with birds the answer is sexual selection. As a group they seem to have a general preference for bright, colorful things.
