Yeah the based alpha chad warrior book about how this war is a pointless nightmare that has left even the victors poorer, fought because of alliances that long should have been abandoned, followed up in the cycle by a poem about how hard it is to even come home from war

wow-cool-robot Wow! Cool chariot!!

[–] invo_rt@hexbear.net 66 points 4 days ago (1 children)

the Iliad

it's the Odyssey

[–] ggtdbz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Most Western Civilization-understanding “Western Civilization” admirer.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I wonder what percentage of them even read Republic by Plato? Somehow Plato advocates for Philosopher kings and still comes off as less of a hog than the modern chud.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 51 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Motherfucker you could literally pay someone to be a fulltime poet for you and recite the damn story in the same room as you, but nooo, gotta bazinga it and do an audio book...speeded up!! These people are the most imaginationless mofos on the planet.

[–] HarryLime@hexbear.net 44 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Man, that would be such a cool thing to do if I had Elon money. I could hire some people from a classics and history department to put on a recitation and make it as historically accurate as possible, and make them put on a cool production. Billionaires don't patronize the arts anymore.

I once saw a modern production of The Trojan Women that did that really well. The actors were great.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 32 points 4 days ago (2 children)

This is one of the things I understand least about modern billionaires. They dont seem to do anything with their money. I would be pissing away my fortune on making movies good

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 28 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

He's always in a race to the bottom to impress 30 something 4chan groypers. When you have world class money like that why on earth are you wanting of the approval of some of the worst people on the planet? idgi. There was a brief moment like 10 years ago that Musk was a liberal darling and he could have cemented himself a good legacy by using that money to end hunger or homelessness and go down a hero but nope, it's all squandered on Big Balls and DOGE ripping away medicaid for millions to impress 'KekGroyper1488' on /b/

[–] fox@hexbear.net 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The fact that these ultra billionaires aren't funding a single library or scholarship

Bill Gates famously funds the Gates Scholarship

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I've thought the same thing for a while, imagine how popular it would make you for probably a net neutral investment. Interestingly I think they're all so vapid and out of touch that they couldn't do it even if they tried.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 6 points 4 days ago

I wouldnt even be doing it for popularity. It would be me buying stuff i like with my money. I want more cool art so I'd throw a fuckload of money at it being easier to make and get out there. No ulterior motive even needed. I think id also just kinds run out of personal stuff to buy really quick. Its like...a 2 story house, comfy furniture, a really nice bathrooms and kitchen and then im pretty much covered. Stuff i like is pretty cheap. I would have to fund cool things or I really wouldnt know what else to do

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 25 points 4 days ago (1 children)

legit the kind of weird rich guy shit i would end up doing
hire someone to read me stories while dressed up in appropriate costumes

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 6 points 4 days ago

Being read stories by a person who is there live kicks ass and should not be reserved for children.

[–] MaxOS@hexbear.net 42 points 4 days ago (1 children)

dumb guys' idea of smart guy stuff

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 29 points 4 days ago

That's literally it. Musk is the platonic idea of what a "smart" guy is to some hot couch loser.

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 37 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

It's just such a gormless "hmm yes smart people probably like shit like this, right?" empty signalling thing. Like this is a book every child is made to read in school and the surviving text is a very simple prose (ostensibly because the original format was a core story being embellished differently by every reciter as part of a broader environment of what was basically fanfics, and what survived as later written copies were stripped down summaries with some snappy lines to remember to include when making up your own spoken version), it's not some elite past time to listen to someone else read a sped up version of a short novella.

Not that he even does that. Dude only consumes pay2win mobile games and I can only presume random gooner slop animes from the mid 00s which he has an AI-fueled text to speech redub with fresh new slurs.

Send this to tagline gulag please someone

[–] TheSpectreOfGay@hexbear.net 39 points 4 days ago (2 children)

i know that they're often printed together, buuuut does he think the odyssey and the illiad are the same thing...?

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 46 points 4 days ago

kelly It’s all Greek to me

[–] TrashGoblin@hexbear.net 1 points 4 days ago

It's the Homer Cinematic Universe.

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 35 points 4 days ago (1 children)

you can't spell alpha without Achilles and Patroclus

[–] HarryLime@hexbear.net 41 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The alpha story about how the world's coolest guy got his feelings hurt and wouldn't come out of his room so his beautiful boyfriend had to do his job for him and died

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 17 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Achilles has gotta be like, the most weak sauce of ancient Greek heroes as well. Dude only killed other guys, not even any monsters.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 16 points 4 days ago

Soyjack Achilles vs Chad Sigma Grindset Perseus

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

He also cheated because being nearly immortal. Couldn't he just take an axe and chop the gate?

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 2 points 4 days ago

Might run through a few axes but I cant see why not

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 26 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Man who is so insecure about his body he has had plastic surgery, botox, hair fillers, and god knows what else... Thinks he is qualified to comment on what is alpha.

So I don't get picked up on body shaming for this I just wanna say this isn't about what your body is, be whoever you want to be even if that means changing yourself but don't spread fucking alpha shit while clearly and demonstrably being such an insecure person and a hypocrite lacking self awareness.

All of these dweebs that spread "alpha" shit are either deeply insecure or sexual offenders that will force themselves on women if given the opportunity... Or both. If the word alpha comes out of the mouth of any dude for anything other than ridiculing the very idea then my immediate judgement is always going to be that this dude is extremely insecure about himself and fell into those topic circles trying to address his insecurities. It's a mental health crisis among men and all of these people spread it further actively making themselves and others more insecure and more toxic about it.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 27 points 4 days ago (1 children)

And lo did Homer stand and begin the recitation of the Trojan War at one and one-quarter tempo and in English.

[–] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 27 points 4 days ago (1 children)

For maximum alpha, complete with fighting and Tsars, "Left-Wing" Communism: An Infantile Disorder.

Audiobook at 1.25X speed is best. It was meant to be read, and spoken, about.

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Good bit, but seriously, let's try to advertise communist theory to these kinds of guys this way. Paint an image of the Bolsheviks as freedom fighters against a backwards feudal system and Lenin as a badass rebel type. (Compare it to 1776, perhaps, and imply the American revolution is still incomplete. That's my fave strategy for dealing with American "rah rah freedumb!" types.) Get nut job children of the Cold War who hate communism to read things they'd never otherwise read, by any means short of actually straight up lying about the contents.

[–] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 25 points 4 days ago

hey have you heard of this little known work

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 21 points 4 days ago

Quick, we need Joyce Carol Oates to get him to eat some dynamite or drive a car into a wall painted like a tunnel

[–] KoboldKomrade@hexbear.net 16 points 4 days ago (2 children)

The only good thing the Greek classics have given us is Hades 1 (haven't played 2, so not a comment on that). Even then the game only wears a Greek skin. It wears it well, but it ain't trying to be accurate to a T.

Not that mr diamond mine would enjoy a story about struggle, overcoming the demands of your society and family, personal improvement, and counterintuitively accepting both yourself and others both as they are and as they want to be.

I also doubt he'd ever relate to Zagreus saying he would go through hell (literally) to talk to his mother, once. Something very relatable for many, including myself.

[–] damnatum_seditiosus@hexbear.net 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I love the second too! It's also had family hardship to go through, a bit less developed on that though than the first one so far in my playthrough.

[–] fox@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The gameplay in 2 is a lot more polished imo

Oh for sure. All the dialogs are great, too!

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 7 points 4 days ago

I like the Greek classics but it's cause im a huge fucking nerd about mythology, history in general, literature, pretty much all stuff youre gonna run into the Greek classics prettt quick, I did when I was like...8 or so.

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 8 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Ah yes, the "alpha" thing. Honestly. I think people need to send these men more terrible porn-no-plot A/B/O fics when they call themselves alphas in public. Make them embarrassed to use the word.

[–] Alisu@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago

Just realized that could also mean blood types lmao

[–] TrashGoblin@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Even just, oh, I didn't know you were into the Omegaverse. What's your favorite knotting/mpreg story?

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Yeah, that's a good public response to that kind of behaviour. Or ask to see their knot.

I'm not even super into Omegaverse stuff, and I'm certainly more a fan of the same sex dynamics of female alphas existing than male omegas existing (yeah, what a surprise, the guy who wishes he had both sets of primary sex characteristics and is only into girls really likes F/F A/B/O, lol), but asking clueless "alpha males" "so, if you're really an alpha, show us your knot" in a public forum is really fun, and proceeding to then post links to classic omegaverse stories when they express confusion is even better.

[–] NuraShiny@hexbear.net 14 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

He spends more time on how to listen to it then on the book itself. Really shows he cares about his choice.

No one cares about your 1.25 speed strats Elon, its pathetic.

[–] Ishtar@hexbear.net 12 points 4 days ago

This one. This pathetic worm.

[–] Hyper_red@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago

My hot take is the Illiad is way better than the Odyssey and the Odyssey is kinda mid and I dislike that the Odyssey is more popular. I am glad that the monk who was my 8th grade English teacher made us read the Illiad.

so much alpha in the even more misogynistic and racist time perion
