My brother used to say, if i have to lift it up why shouldn't my wife have to put it down?

I see his point but, i close the lid to flush so i don't have to brush my teeth with a pissy shit particle covered toothbrush.

If you properly close a toilet seat/lid, everyone has to open it before using it, I don't see what the big deal is

[–] Joeffect@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago (7 children)

Also, if it's not a weird toilet seat that doesn't have a lid, you should be putting it down to reduce the number of particles that get into the air...

I once jokingly mentioned to my wife that leaving the seat up is just as convenient for me as leaving it down is for her. To which she pointed out that, of the four different permutations of toilet use between us, 3/4 require the seat to be down, so all in all, it makes sense to leave the seat down.

And dammit, I had to marry a logical autistic, didn't I?

So now I always (try to remember to) leave the seat down.

[–] Hacksaw@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

At home both of those are invalid. You close the lid before you flush so you don't spread particles everywhere (among many other benefits)

Everyone opens the lid/seat to the desired level. Everyone does their business. Everyone closes the lid. Everyone flushes and washes their hands.

True gender equality!

I tend to sit down to pee most times (at home), so that ratio is even higher for us..

I only piss in sinks and showers. It's the gentlemanly thing to do.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (3 children)

The gentlemanly thing would be to keep it in your pants, like I do.

Put the seat and the lid down before flushing.

[–] WereCat@lemmy.world 31 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I just put the lid down but I still leave the seat up when flushing.

If men have to put down women have to lift up. Morality is when the same logic is applied to the other side. Otherwise your being sexist and prejudice.

This issue always baffles me.

The amazing thing about owning a penis is that I can still pee sitting down and there's never any drama. Have to poop? Don't even have to move! Have to fart? Go for it! Not farting in your underwear makes them smell fresher for longer, anyway.

This assumes that men ever lift the seat. I’d prefer it be left up so that there is at least a chance I can sit on a dry, piss-free seat. Lowering a seat is preferable to the alternative.

[–] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Toilet seats are fully operational by anyone, (it's true I checked). How about instead of trying to police everyone you just put it up or down yourself and stfu?

Seeing this sign would ensure I go out of my way to leave it up.

Can people do what they need to do without anybody policing them? Seat up or down who cares?

[–] camelbeard@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

As a guy please leave it up, when I need to poop I really don't want to sit on a seat with pee splatter all over. If it's really unisex I think most women rather put it down than sit on a wet toiletseat.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago (5 children)

Why does it matter how it's left when you're done? All that matters is lifting it when you pee.

I'm a woman and will leave the seat up at work (not at home)

We have unisex toilets and truck drivers use them - they regularly wee all over the toilet seats if left down :(

Lid up -> cats drink toilet water

Lid down -> no toilet-face cats

(Seat down because lid is down)

[–] kelpie_returns@lemmy.world 55 points 5 days ago (65 children)

People of the penile persuasion can sit while peeing. It is very easy to do.

Sit to pee for all. Solves all problems.

If this was a male-only bathroom I'd still totally agree with the content of the sign.

If you want to pee standing, use the urinal. I, as a man, don't enjoy sitting in some other person's pee either.

[–] Bruhh@lemmy.world 18 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (5 children)

I never understood the whole "you left the toilet seat up" complaint. Never been an issue in my family but have heard "he never puts the seat down" all the time. Is it that much effort to put the toilet seat down when you need to go?

Edit: Always close the toilet seat cover, not just lowering the toilet seat. This is for both men and women.

No no no. In public restrooms better to leave the seat up so that when people pee standing up the toilet water droplets don't get on the seat.

I pee standing up in public and know the mess it can cause.

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 17 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Soft close toilet seats should be standard equipment.

Then putting the lid down is a matter of a single light push.

[–] y0kai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 4 days ago (3 children)

If you raise it, put it back down when you're done. If you put it down, put it back up when you're done. That seems fair.

Alternatively, if there's a lid, close the lid when you're done. Then everyone is equally "inconvenienced".

[–] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 19 points 4 days ago (3 children)

I always close the lid so things don't fall in

But like, if men pee with the seat up, but both men and women poop with the seat down, then statistically the seat is already down more than half of the time. Now if we enforce a policy like this, that would mean more than half of the times someone walks in and needs the seat to be down is in luck, but the rest has to do double the "work". And if someone goes in after someone who would have otherwise left the seat up, they too do double the work, so the seat changes position 4 times instead of once. I think it's much more "just" to simply change the seat whenever you need it and sometimes you will even find it in the position you need it in.

Did you know this isn't a discussion at all in most of the world? People do whatever and no one is bothered by it. I only ever see this in American media.

Biased how. Do the math. Half of us sit down to pee, all of us sit down to shit.

This is all personal preference. There is no issue to discuss here.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Is peeing standing up something I'm just too intersex to understand? Like even before bottom surgery it was just more easy and convenient to sit down for it

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

How is having to pull your pants and underwear down and sit down easier and more convenient than just unzipping your fly and peeing standing up?

[–] wetsoggybread@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I mean if you're at a urinal that's one thing but if you're going into a stall you're already wasting time might as well sit down and take a break, maybe take a smoke while you're at it

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago

If you feel like sitting down, that makes sense, but it's not easier and more convenient.

So, like, peeing into a toilet with the seat down, 100% keeps those tiny little splashes from hitting the tops my bare feet at home. So, when I pee in public toilets, I keep the seat down, to keep the urine off my shoes. I do wipe the seat if I miss, and I also spray if there is disinfectant. But I hear the smart girls squat atop the seat anyway.

Really, places where you don't have a urinal are sub optimal.

Very silly post. Reactionary gender war nonsense. Everyone can and does and should sit down, that's why it's unisex. It's not that complicated.

There's better things to hitch your identity and ego to than the way your dad told you to piss.

Leave the seat down so when you flush you won't inhale your poop and pee.

Cmon it's not hard.

Edit: and lid.
